Genshin Impact’s life-consuming campaign will add an enormous influx of content with its v5.2 update, due out on 20th November. As we’re still deep in the Natlan arc, this will add several new environments to the map, where you’ll be able to hang with new tribes and “investigate a mysterious accident” as part of the latest event.
Perhaps crucially, two new Saurians will add fresh traversal capabilities to the release. According to the press materials, Qucusaurs can “glide long distances” while Iktomisaurs can “leap vertically to great heights”.
These abilities will enable you to “navigate the challenging terrain” of Ochkanatlan, one of the new locations being added as part of the update. A companion named Cocouik will also assist you in dealing with the Abyssal contamination here.
While that’s already a lot of content to look forward to, there’ll be two new playable characters debuting in v5.2. The first, Chasca, who’s the “renowned Peacemaker of the Flower-Feather Clan”, is a five-star Anemo-based bow wielder who can “float and attack mid-air”. In addition, she can fire multiple elemental bullets based on the composition of her party, which gives her plenty of flexibility.
Her banner will be flanked in the first half of the update by Lyney’s rerun and four-star newcomer Ororon, who dovetails nicely with Hydro and Electro characters. The second half of the update will be headlined by two returning favourites: Zhongli and Neuvillette. These are essential characters in our opinion, so start saving your Primogems.
Elsewhere, the Archon Quest will continue with an interlude named All Fires Fuel the Flame, while there’ll be various quality of life improvements to a ton of gameplay elements, including Artifacts and the Imaginarium Theatre.
So while this update is perhaps a little lighter on the story front, there’s clearly no shortage of things here to keep you occupied. To be honest, we’re a little exhausted condensing all that and typing it out. It’s crazy to think Infinity Nikki and Wuthering Waves could soon be adding to our PS5 gacha addition – how are we going to keep up?

If this world gets any bigger my freaking head is going to explode out of pure joy and excitement 😆🤯❤️🔥
@AfroMario It really is ridiculous right now. Haha!
I've always wanted to try this game. But it looks a bit too "cute" for my liking.
@AhmadSumadi Set aside 2,000 hours if you do give it a go. Seriously.
@get2sammyb to match the over 12k hours I've already put into Elder Scrolls Online. My wife is gonna role her eyes so hard she'll be able to see the back of her skull lol.
@AhmadSumadi WOW! 12k hours is INSANE!
New lands to explore, my favourite patches! Shame Neuvillette is before Arlecchino rerun and Mavuika because I am saving for those, but also want to add Neuvi's weapon. Having played the game for years i'm at the point where i'm mostly more interested in vertical investment, upgrading the players I do use, than getting new ones. But I do want Arlecchino, and Mavuika is an Archon, gotta catch them all!
@get2sammyb @AhmadSumadi 2000 hours is conservative. It's hard to know how many when it's split between PS4, PS5 and Phone/Tablet but I think 3,000+
I once calculated that I could have basically completed my backlog OR played Genshin Impact... and yet... I'm not sure i'd have it any other way. Comfort gaming FTW.
You also make me feel far more rational with that 12k hours. Thank you.
So glad I don't play it, ZZZ is plenty enough content for me lol.
Yeah, at this point the game has an insane amount of content to offer. New players definitely would be busy for a very long while
I was a lapsed player, but last time I went to play it I wanted to restart but the game wouldn’t let me 😡 don’t know if this is still the case. Probably just start it on Xbox now when it drops on there.
@get2sammyb gotta remember it's a 10-years-old game though. I'm a day 1 player. And I play it... A LOT!
@themightyant same with me and my backlog. I have God Of War, Jedi: Survivor, Wu Long, Dragon's Dogma 2, Star Wars: Outlaws, Prince Of Persia, etc. in my backlog. My wife is like "Why do you buy new games when all you're gonna do is play ESO?!" But it's mainly because my son is also a gamer and my PSN is on his PS5 as a second console. Wasn't for that, I'd probably not have bought any of those games.
Wow, I play around 2000 hours a year, so I would have missed all the games that came out in the last 5+ years, if I played Genshin Impact? I'd like to give it a try one day, but I don't think I'll go over 100h with it xD my conscience woudn't let me..
maybe I'll watch some YT videos with all the main story parts. That would be the most appealing part for me anyway..
@McBurn @AhmadSumadi it would be a different experience but I think you could jump in in a couple of years when the main story is complete and just play it start to finish. That would take a lot less time. It would be very different to the journey we went on, for years, but still probably great, more like a normal super-high budget RPG.
@get2sammyb
If Mugen comes out before Tsaritsa, it'll be nigh impossible to keep up. In the meantime, just indulge in the addiction 🥴
Code valid until the 8th November. It's the 9th. Why they give such a short time to claim? I don't think I'll be getting back to this anytime soon anyway.
@themightyant: what is it, that took so much time for you anyway? Leveling all the chars? Gathering materials? I'm sure I would stick with 3-5 so that at least would not be an issue for me. Only thing bothering me from when I played it are the restrictions for leveling up.
@McBurn it’s a combination of things.
1. It’s a massive game that is always expanding with new lands to explore, new mechanics, new characters, new stories.
2. Their update schedule is insane. New content every 6 weeks, new lands to explore typically every 12 weeks, new characters often every 3.
3. Levelling characters does take time. But the real end game is a loot grind for better artifacts. (Not that you need them for the story, nor do you ever need to spend if you don’t want to, as long as you have willpower)
4. They reward you for logging in daily on top of the new content. Even 10-15 minutes a day adds up over 4 years. Add the weekly, monthly or other events and it quickly becomes a lot of time over time. If it is your only live service it’s totally manageable imo, but
It’s a strange one. On paper I am against many of the practises in this game, part of me wishes it was just a complete 20-500+ hour RPG… yet I KNOW I wouldn’t be so embedded into it in that case, some of the appeal is having lived in it for years. I also know it would be impossible to make at this size, scale and quality with a normal business model. Like GTA and other almost “no expense spared” games, it’s nice to have something unique.
I do often wonder what it would be like to wait for the main story to complete and just play start to finish. It would be a VERY different experience, but I wonder if it would be as captivating. Hope that helps try to explain it, there’s a lot more to it.
@themightyant: Thanks for the explanations^^ I'm not opposed to long games, I play all the longest JRPGs (DQ11, the Persona and Trails-series, most recently Metaphor, etc.). What I don't like is the feeling of wasting time, when I'm only fetch-questing or gathering the same materials over and over again.
In that sense I don't think Genshin would be too bad. I'll try to get to it some day^^
