Final Fantasy 14 is immensely popular, and has been for many years now. Square Enix's MMORPG may have started out rough, but after A Realm Reborn, it's only gone from strength to strength, and is played by countless people across all platforms, including PS5 and PS4. Soon, though, Eorzea will be even more accessible.
In production at PUBG Mobile developer Lightspeed Studios is Final Fantasy 14 Mobile, a miniaturised version of the game you can put in your pocket.
Announced in the above video by producer and director Yoshi-P, this version of the game will be "specifically tailored" for smartphones, with a "faithful" recreation of the main game's story, combat, and other features.
Though it's neither confirmed or denied to be cross-compatible with the main game, FF14 Mobile does appear to be a separate experience, despite some similarities. It'll have numerous playable races, nine jobs at launch, and an Armoury system allowing you to swap jobs on the fly.
It'll also feature plenty of side activities like chocobo racing, Triple Triad, fishing, mining, and more.
The game will launch first in China, with the global release to follow later. Will you be playing Final Fantasy 14 on your mobile as well as your PlayStation? Let us know in the comments section below.

So is it like a single player experience then? I remember the normal game forces you to team up with others at certain points. I’d try it on Switch if it were to come out on that…It’s interesting they were able to do something like this.
I don't think I can play mobile games. But if it's free to play, then will give it a go for a bit.
I'll check it out, I need a new game while at work
FFXIV really peaked in Shadowbringers for me. End walker 6.0 kinda finished off the entire story line. Wish I could erase my memories and start fresh cuz it's a helluva great experience thru 6.0.
Believe they also said it won’t contain gacha systems also?
I don't see this working well on anything older than 4 years old and I'm being optimistic
Interesting. I have a friend that has thousands of hours into 14 so I'm curious on what his opinion is.
This is crazy, I forget how far mobile games have come. Probably won’t run on mine, it’s quite a few years old. That’s ok!
@LavenderShroud
About three expansions back, FFXIV added Duty Support, a way for you to play MSQ (Main Scenario Quest) dungeons with an NPC party (and the system actually works well). They started adding support for older content recently, so the requirement to team up for MSQ content is as low at it has ever been.
Of course that's just MSQ content, if you want side content, you will need to team up occasionally.
I have been playing FFXIV since 1.0 and most of the time I play solo; so if you are worried about being forced to team up, don't be. You can play a lot solo, and the few times you have to team up, the Duty Finder makes this fairly painless.
@thedevilsjester That’s really cool! I honestly had no idea they made that change. Thank you for sharing that with me!
@thedevilsjester @LavenderShroud Duty Support is currently for all of the original relaunch main story content (up to level 50) but won't get you through the later content, because with a few exceptions in the last couple of expansions, it isn't extended to 8-player "trial" battles and there's a whole bunch of those you need to do to progress past the end of the "Realm Reborn" storyline.
Likewise, I mainly play solo & run instances through the "duty finder" auto-matching system, the only thing you really need preformed groups for are the harder content like "extreme" trials and "savage" raids, and story-wise those are the figments of a diseased imagination and don't, in-universe, actually happen.
@dancingstar93 Yeah the trials do offer an occasional roadblock to the Duty Support solo play; but they tend to be a lot shorter and have less vitrol; so are not as big of an issue for solo play as dungeons (at least in my experience). It would be nice to see the MSQ ones in Duty Support so you are not reliant on others (especially for DPS).
I wasn't aware that Duty Support works for dungeons that far back though.
