We thoroughly enjoyed Lillymo Games’ Arkanoid-esque Twin Breaker: A Sacred Symbols Adventure on PS4 and PS Vita in 2020, so we’re pretty pumped to see the announcement of pseudo-sequel Tri Breaker: A Sacred Symbols Odyssey for PS5 and PS4.

As is obvious from the trailer, this is more than just your average Breakout clone, with nods and references to all kinds of 80s and 90s arcade favourites. There’s a snippet of what looks like Frogger in the trailer, as well as R-Type and much more. The general block busting system remains, though, so we’re eager to see how this all works.

Like the previous game, there’ll be a full sci-fi story linked loosely to the real-life Sacred Symbols podcast, and you’ll find over 40 stages spanning galactic history.

One really neat trick which Lillymo Games has been pushing is that it’ll have different Trophy lists on PS5 and PS4. The former’s Platinum will be much more difficult, while the latter’s will be easier to achieve.

Looking at the lists on PSNProfiles, it seems you’ll need to S-Rank all of the levels on Hard difficulty to get the Platinum on the PS5, while the PS4 version will only require you to beat 20 of the Hard difficulty levels at any rank for the prestigious pot.

The game’s due out at some point in December, and will retail for $9.99. You’ll get both the PS5 and PS4 versions with one purchase, so you can choose which Trophy difficulty you prefer.

Lillymo Games tends to make a mean retro-inspired experience, so we’re looking forward to giving this a spin over the Christmas break.
