Legacy of Kain Fans Will Be Feasting on PS5, PS4 These Coming Weeks

Huh... was expecting a blood omen 2 and defiance remaster follow up.
I wonder what this means...

@Nem I'd say they're favouring the Soul Reaver games because they were a lot more popular. And if I would venture a guess, I'd say they'll move forward with that timeline if they develop further games in the series.

Is there any news about physical copy for the remaster?

This is one of the few upsides of this generation, that Sony is regularly releasing these classic (and sometimes really obscure) games. They should make surveys for psplus members where request can be made. Then they know where to put their efforts.
They should also continuously update their emulators so they can keep up with the homebrew devs.
Finally, part of the proceeds they make should go to institutions that work on gaming preservation.

Only played soul reaver 1 on the dreamcast back in the day and really enjoyed it, so I'm glad Sony is making more games available.

Have they said anything about trophy support?

Anyway, I’m very excited for all these games, especially for the two Blood Omen games (and even more so for Blood Omen 2).

I also have Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered pre-ordered, which is highly unusual for me as I rarely pre-order any games nowadays.

Great way to end the year with these fantastic games!

Never played Blood Omen 2 so I'm exited to try it. Though I played Defiance and I wish I didn't.

@Loamy I can't speak for the PC game but it looked ok for the time. It wasn't up with the best looking games on PS2 but it certainly wasn't down with the worst looking either

@PuppetMaster That's exactly what I want to know. Especially if there will be a deluxe edition containing a steelbook and booklet just like the Tomb Raider collection. But I didn't catch any news regarding this as well

@tameshiyaku Yeah give credit where credit is due Sony are being pretty consistent with releases each month and aren't just playing it safe with the usual suspects. Its just a shame though licencing issues prevent games like Spider-Man 1/2 from coming over or Tekken 3.

Blood Omen 2 is really bad though. I wish it wasn't, don't get mad. What the hell was that game with Sexy Vampire named Sexy Vampire? Bloodvein? Vein...blood...Purple Vein?

I just wish they would hurry up and confirm or deny if the Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remaster is going to get a physical copy or not.

Just tell us. If there are currently no plans to release a physical copy ill pre-order the digital one right now, but I don't want to buy digital if they're going to release a disc version two months later lol

@Dalamar Defiance is a fantastic game. The plot is great and it answered a lot of questions left from the others.

@Majin_Deicide I imagine that won't happen until after release.
Tomb raider 1-3 got a physical release a few months later.
I imagine this might as well if sales are good.

@Almost_Ghostly Yeah that person had a hot take. Defiance is good. It just became more action oriented than exploration oriented.
Which is fair enough. The game was probably more imersive as a metroidvania than an action focused game.
But i love them either way.

Hopefully with SR1 and 2 remaster, we will get a Defiance (which follows the story on from SR2) remaster.
Then maybe a new game to complete the story - the games were all chapters of a larger story, and it would be almost criminal not to finish it.

1 thing to consider is im not sure if the excellent voice actors who did Kain and Raziel will still be doing voice acting by the time they get round to a new game - and it might not seem the same without them, particularly imo Kains.

Kain VA is still working, last game = DAV, age 70.
Raziel VA last role according to WP was 2020, now age 86.

I have to admit I’ve never played any of these so I will be a newbie to all of this hype.

Legacy of Kain. That atmosphere. Brilliant back then and brilliant now.

@Nem It's a similar situation to Tomb Raider. Legend got added to the PS2 classics lineup but it would make a lot of sense for the next release after the 4-6 remasters to be 7-9 remasters (Legend, Anniversary, Underworld) especially as Xbox 360 got exclusive DLC for Underworld.

I really want to get this series, but I can't decide if I want to buy them on Steam or GOG.

I loved Blood Omen 2, I’m aware it’s not a great game, but I played the hell out of it on original Xbox.

I love them bringing these games back. Hopefully they have trophies! All we need is Defiance now and the entire collection will be on modern hardware.

Should these be played in the order they came out, or is there a timeline to follow? Only ever played Soul Reaver 1

@Dalamar The ending of Soul Reaver 2 makes Blood Omen 2 possible, and Defiance is an attempt to setup the younger Kain to rewrite the events of Blood Omen 2 provided future Kain returns the purified Reaver to the place where fledgling Kain acquired it.

And so the coin lands on its edge and no one can stop the machinations of fate

I don't care. I will get them digital next month and physical next year. Just keep sending these amazing PS1 remasters!

@Vault_Mcfly My PS5 is for exclusives only...though...that could change going forward depending on how much Sony changes its PC strategy to be even more aggressive - then it could be "adios PS5" like I did with my Series X.

The only console I would own at that point is a Switch.

They really need to stop locking classic games behind PS Plus. I'd much rather pay for them and not subscribe to a service that I don't need.

@SuperSilverback Blood Omen, Soul Reaver, Soul Reaver 2, Blood Omen 2 and then Defiance is the true order, but I would say you can play Soul Reaver and 2 as kind of standalones if you wanted.

@KoopaTheGamer Correct me if I'm wrong but the only game that's locked behind PS Premium is Dino Crisis and based on previous Capcom games only for 12 months. Every other psp/PS1/PS2 game is available for purchase?

@Ken_Kaniff Depends how you define modern hardware. Defiance is already on PC, and the GOG version got updated last week to make sure it works on modern PCs.

So stocked to revisit this series! I actually never could play Blood Omen 1 and 2, so now I will!! I hope they bring trophy support, so I can always see the achievements in my page. The story of this saga is really amazing. Bring it on!! Kain, is deified.

@FlyingPig Possibly, but I do recall other games being locked behind PS Plus for a long time. Ridge Racer Type 4 was one, and it took forever until you could buy it.

I'm not 100% sure if this applies to Legacy of Kain as well, but the wording in this article suggests so.

Blood omen better not be locked behind premium like Dino Crisis. Just saying....
