Capcom has revealed you'll be able to hunt monsters on both your PS5 and mobile phones soon as it announces official spin-off game Monster Hunter Outlanders for smartphones in a debut trailer. Building on Monster Hunter Now, this is a fully open-world adaptation with an optimised battle system that shall launch for iOS and Android devices. Capcom is making the spin-off with the Tencent-owned TiMi Studio Group, and you can get a first look at it above.
Available to play alone or in co-op with friends, Outlanders sounds like it's replicating the Monster Hunter gameplay loop to a tee on mobile phones, with "seamlessly connected fields" to explore and a battle system fit for smartphones that features the series' traditional weapons. You'll unlock new characters to both play as and team up with and find companions to join you on quests.
In a press release, the studio group producer at TiMi Studio Group, Dong Huang, said: "It’s time for mobile players to fully enjoy what makes Monster Hunter one of the most beloved franchises in gaming. Monster Hunter Outlanders not only offers players an authentic hunting experience, but it does it in a massive open world featuring the community and social systems players are looking for today."
Of course, Capcom is already readying PS5 title Monster Hunter Wilds for February 2025, so next year could well be packed full of the monster slaying action for fans. A release date for Outlanders hasn't been confirmed yet, but playtests will be conducted in the lead-up to launch. Are you interested in the mobile spin-off? I can see this also launching on the Switch 2, if so I will definitely give it a go.
This will be absolutely, absolutely massive.
I wish they'd release this on consoles too. I'd play both this and Wilds back to back if I could
I love monster hunter, but not interested in mobile. But like diablo immortal I may give it a quick shot.
@UltimateOtaku91 I was thinking Switch but Switch 2 makes more sense. It’s early and I’m pre-caffeinated. Now they can go all in on Wilds in 4k but not disregard 10 million Nintendo fans.
It’s funny but after decades on Nintendo handhelds it kind of feels like this game was already on mobile. Finding out it wasn’t is kind of odd. I wonder if they’ll try to sell MH branded Backbones and the like. I just can’t imagine this plays well on a touchscreen.🤷🏻♂️
Unlock new characters? Are they adding Gacha to this? Will I have to hope and pray I pull an S rank Heavy Bowgun character with optimal skills and stats?
