Ever since Xbox's initial steps into multiplatform releases, fans have been wondering where the company will draw the line. Earlier this year, a quartet of previously Xbox-exclusive titles made their way to PS5 and PS4 (Sea of Thieves, Pentiment, Grounded, and Hi-Fi Rush), and with a new comment from top exec Phil Spencer, it sounds like nothing is too sacred to make the jump.
In an interview with Bloomberg, Spencer comments on Xbox's strategy of releasing some games on more platforms. He makes it clear that its entire catalogue of first-party games are on the table. "I do not see sort of red lines in our portfolio that say ‘thou must not,'" he said, adding that it's too early to make any decisions about the next Halo in that regard.
Put simply, Spencer is "pleased with the results" of releasing those aforementioned games on Sony and Nintendo hardware, so any Xbox-owned franchise could wind up on PlayStation in the future.
Rumours about which games are coming up next have been doing the rounds in various forms for a while, and Spencer's comment does quash a recent one. A leaker known as eXtas1s claimed that Microsoft had paused its plans for multiplatform releases, and that series such as Halo and Gears of War are "red lines", suggesting they'll stay exclusive. Spencer's wording seems like a direct response to this.
Anyway, it appears any Xbox titles coming to PlayStation are possible. What's top of your wish list to make the leap? Tell us in the comments section below.

I want Avowed. I love Western RPGS.
Bring over Halo:MCC, the good Gears games, Forza (the open world ones, not the ‘we have Gran Turismo at home’ sims), and a few odds and ends (Sunset Overdrive, Quantum Break etc) and I’ll gladly wipe the Xbox hardware platform from my memory database to free up some storage space.
A gears collection would be an absolute easy day 1 purchase. Halo also would be huge, especially the original trilogy
So at some point, even Phil must get tired of listening to the constant double-speak coming out his mouth... it's fine... but can we all agree that XBox is no longer XBox, but just Game Pass?
Having lived through a lot of gaming hype... the constant edging towards a non-XBox reality is getting painful. Then again, we can hope for a happier future. I just don't think it's going to make Sony more consumer friendly for us.
I wouldn't mind to play Forza Horizon, and almost certainly Fable... strange coincidence? And I think Flight Simulator would be fun (on PS+.... it's a chill experience - at least it was on PC - but I don't know I'd get more than casual play out of it). Of course og Halo.
Good old Uncle Phil, I trust him.
MS want that money.
Wow, well folks wanted some clarity on the matter. I guess there you have it, straight from the horse’s mouth.
Was waiting for this article to come out, do we think this is Phil's last hoorah because is this pretty wild!
Flight simulator VR is the only MS owned game I’d actually be excited for
Anything could change from one day to the next with Xbox but I will say it never made sense to me to spend all that money buying up studios just to narrow your customer base. In my experience, seems most companies want to sell their stuff to as many people as possible.
I will buy these only if they get PS5 Pro enhanced treatment
Would love the gears collection, fable 1, aoe 2 (already looks like we're getting that), and halo.
Was he wearing a bow tie and sitting on Satya's lap when he said this.
@Wario_Waha Well, its just coming. Some are just stating what they would like to see. Its not like were signing petitions for games to come 😜
Alright, so prove it Phil.
Rare Replay
AoE 2 & 4
MCC
MFS
Ninja Theory still seems salty about Sony, so I'll take Hellblade 2 😁
Microsoft wins... (or its shareholders do)
XBox loses...
I'm genuinely surprised we haven't seen Starfield yet, that seems like the kind of game that would sell quite well on PS5
@Oz_Who_Dat_Dare I don’t understand the mindset that Sony isn’t consumer friendly. Sony is a for profit publicly traded company. They are a hardware company at heart too. So they need people to buy their physical products.
But yes i want the Xbox brand to stick around. As competition is good for any industry as that’s how innovation comes in faster.
@pyrrhic_victory I’m sure that will be next. As without their recent acquisitions, that game would have been multi-platform anyways.
As an original xboxer for decades, I’m just glad that it’s been said now for others still with Xbox.
I left them a few months ago and shall enjoy all the games that might be worth playing on my PS5 Pro.
@Balaam_ i agree Mcc would be a great idea for PlayStation and infinites multiplayer
@zupertramp to be fair. Microsoft acquired multi-platform studios whom were already selling to other platforms. I think most of us expected that most games would still show up eventually. But not Xbox is giving up everything. As that doesn’t make sense.
A complete Killer Instinct please
@Czar_Khastik
"I will buy these only if they get PS5 Pro enhanced treatment"
I get the sarcasm but this is partly true - lots of devs vying for my money - I want to know MS studios are putting in the effort for it!
Delicious fanboy tears.
For transparency i own a series s. But for me the console wars ended years ago now. Let everyone play everything. Be nice.
Halo and Gears.
Sony and Nintendo are hardware companies. They need people into their ecosystems. Microsoft as a software giant can afford to be more liberal with how they manage their IPs. Even so IMO they shouldn’t exit the hardware space.
@Intr1n5ic he was wearing a bow tie but was polishing Satya’s shoes 😂
@MysticWangForce that’s not how IPs work. Sony and Nintendo have hardware to move to keep their investors happy. As they are hardware companies. Both companies are under no obligation to share IPs just because people feel these days that we should all share so others shouldn’t be left out. That’s not how hobbies nor industries work. Companies exist to make money for their owners and keep their advantages no matter how big or small.
@Oram77 No, I think that Phil was told that this was the way it has to be (multiplat releases), and he’s going along with it, not sticking his neck out. Microsoft can still make tons of money releasing games on other platforms.
But a 5 year old 2nd party Kojima game finally releasing on Xbox is the bigger dubya… go figure 🤷♂️
My Series X is kind of collecting dust and I'd rather play everything on PlayStation anyway.
@MysticWangForce Oh, the irony. Telling people to be nice with such a mocking intro.
I'll take Forza Horizon, please.
Star field complete edition
Is Ms going the way of Sega or will they still make consoles?
Flight sim please 🙏
I don't think that is any clearer than it was before.
I'm of the belief that Phil isn't getting final say anymore and so it is very obviously him just saying 'these things haven't been decided and are basically out of my hands.'
You could further translate this as ' if the big wigs and the money men say it will be so, then it will be so.'
I expect them to start selling dormant IP soon.
Flight simulator please! 🙏
please bring the gears trilogy to PC first atleast
Gears of war collection and that’ll be me done! wham bam thank you Spencer
As I've said before, next gen will be the last hardware from Sony and Microsoft. I really don't think there'll be a PS7.
Avowed/Elder Scrolls 6. That's it. I don't want to have to buy an Xbox to play the next Elder Scrolls but I will. At least then I'll have a reason to get game pass.
Removed - inappropriate
Well if you can't beat them, join them 😜.
But man what a way to make Xbox even more irrelevant by saying any of their games could (will) come to their main competitor. At this rate Playstation and Nintendo will be the only ones with home consoles within the next 10 years.
@ButterySmooth30FPS sames, mine is mostly for the OG and 360 games i can only play there. The next xbox games really havent been of interest and i just want to play on Playstation, system and controller being a preferencey
@Major_Player i dont know why Trump thing is in play, it was pretty easy acquiring stuff under the current guy.
Killer Instinct and Gears cheers
@Balaam_ Sony actually owns Sunset Overdrive ever since buying Insomniac, they just have zero interest in bringing it over due to bad sales. Shame, it's an extremly fun game...
@Lofty1985 Phew, thanks for the 100% confirmation!
@Wario_Waha at least playstation and xbox players have more games to play beyond first parties 😂🤣
but being stuck in the 80s/90s with outdated games in a new coat of paint is ok too i guess
Honestly can’t name an MS series I’m pining for. Just never took to the console. Once was a Nintendo die hard and now I only play PlayStation. Owned XBOX for a short while and it never drew me in.
Fable, Elder Scrolls and Forza horizon would be nice. And make a new motorcross/midtown madness, dammit!
Yup, 100% confirmed Xbox is dead and EVERYTHING eventually coming to PS5.
Forza Horizon. It’s the one thing PlayStation has no answer to.
Also hope it means the next Elder Scrolls is multi platform
Kinda makes it seem like Microsoft is throwing in the towel, huh? If any of their games are going to be on PlayStation, then Xbox is irrelevant. Exclusives help sell consoles, so if there’s no more exclusives…
I've been XBOX since the 360 but picked up a PS5 recently for all the PS4/5 exclusives I've missed out on. XBOX games I'd double dip on would include Starfield, Forza Horizon (tricky with car licensing), Gears 1-3, Halo MCC, and in the future, Fable, Perfect Dark, Gears E-day, etc, all seem likely for PS anyway. Wouldn't buy them again, but the two Ori games are fantastic also.
I suppose the next elder scrolls might be a dream too far?
@Blauwe_Chimay a new Midtown Madness? Now you're speaking my language.
They are literally making any Xbox hardware more pointless by the day. I'm looking forward to Gears Of War on my PS5.
@Vaako007 idk i recall the conversations going something like "say goodbye to x and y" every time there was an acquisition. But this is a different Xbox than the one that existed at the start of this gen. For all I know they bought these to have exclusives but fell too far behind. Who knows.
@Vaako007 Nonsense. You reckon Sony and Nintendo don't need to sell truckloads of hard and software?
They're videogame companies. Yes they need to sell hardware, but everyone and their dog owning a Switch or PS5 isn't worth a hoot if they don't buy games for them.
@Totheteeth
Gran Tourismo says "hi".
@Czar_Khastik I believe Indiana Jones is required to have a pro patch based on sony's rules
@takasugi77 A very, VERY different thing. The only link between the two franchises is that they’ve got cars in them tbh
Seems to me if you’re eventually gonna put all Xbox games on all platforms, put masterchief collection out there and see the reaction. At least it’s not a new release, just a collection of 20 year old games, so low risk. If there’s some sort of revolt, then ok forget it then, but if it’s well received (which I’m 99% sure it would be) then move on from there.
Personally, if I get to replay all the halo games with platinum trophies, I’ll pay £60 within seconds
@Xbox_Dashboard age would run bad on playstation
The timing makes me think an event later this year is going to announce a huge Xbox exclusive going multiplatform. It's likely too late in the year for Nintendo to announce Switch 2 so that leaves the Game Awards or Sony choosing to do an event to celebrate PS 30th anniversary.
@takasugi77 Why does Gran Turismo say hi?
GT7 and FH4 are the best racing games of the generation by far, both amazing games, but in the realm of racers they couldn't be more different.
@__jamiie I hope you're wrong, consoles are fun.
@Vaako007 You know that Sony does more than just hardware I hope?
The three stages of coping with trauma:
1) "Just these four".
2) "And Indiana Jones".
3) "No red lines".
Bring Halo & Gears and I'll sell my Series S immediately
Gears 1-3 and Forza Horizon 4/5 for me then
Starfield, future elder scrolls, Stalker 2, maybe avoed if it's decent.
I want halo mcc, infinite, gears of war 1-3, and gears of wars e-day 😃
I'm telling you and I've been saying this for months they will (may do) one more console cycle and then they will become a full software/publisher by 2030. They have bought the biggest amount of IPs ever and unfortunately sacked an awful lot of great talent but the powers that be above Phil no longer see the gaming division like it used to be.
Spending all that and having nothing coming out apart from COD which sold more on PS than Gamepass is one reason to the pile of others they want out. They will make far more money selling to others who make the hardware already and they provide the gaming via Streaming, other consoles, handhelds, phones, TVs, Usb Dongles/sticks
It's all their waiting for them made bv others they just are slowly moving in that direction
I've owned xbox, 360, XBone and Series S. That will likely be the last xbox console I ever buy. There's no point anymore. Nintendo and PS have me covered. It's sad the way xbox has gone. I miss the 360 days.
Yay, it’s xbox Groundhog PR Day
The only recent “Xbox first party” game I liked was hifi rush and they butchered the studio.
Their other games so far just didn’t seem to be good. Even if they release on PS5, I most likely won’t buy them unless they are of robust quality.
I’m very skeptical of Indiana Jones because of that.
@zupertramp I also thought they would leverage all of these acquisitions to push out exclusives. They have so many studios even before buying Bethesda but their output schedule was/is horrendous.
@MrPeanutbutterz not nonsense. My point is that Sony and Nintendo will manage their IPs better because they need to sell software. Software keeps people in their ecosystems. Xbox is backed by an almost exclusive software company whom has dreamy profit margins because the software industry has lower overhead with more revenue than other industries. If Sony and Nintendo cannot move hardware they will be in huge trouble.
@TommyNL yes I do mate. At its core Sony is a hardware company. A significant portion of the entity is hardware based. From blu-rays, Sony Walkman's, Bravia TVs, music services, and movie production. I’m tracking what the entity offers. Hardware is a significant part of their business and they must manage it well.
Yeah you're definitely right, I was just curious.
Hell blade 2, ori 1 & 2, halo infinite and Forza horizon games please
@Vaako007 And like I said, if Sony and Nintendo don't move the software as well they are also in huge trouble, so yes, calling them hardware companies is indeed nonsense.
@Vaako007 as regards Sony as a business, their focus has shifted considerably in the past decade. Now days a great deal of their revenue is gaming, something like a third I think. And this is the biggest chunk given they have their hands in so many pies, ie financial services, film, music, and of course electronics/hardware.
But I'm not sure if "gaming" includes PlayStation hardware sales or not. I do know they aren't the bulk of the TV, audio, and camera market anymore.
Release Elder Scrolls VI on PlayStation and then we'll talk. Still fully expecting Starfield to come eventually.
Give Me Hellblade 2! Keep the rest.
@Lofty1985 Gears, Forza, MS Flight Sim Fable Starfield to name a few. There's tons of games currently locked to XboX.
Xbox games I’d love to be on PS.
L4D 1&2, Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon, Battleblock theatre, Banjo Kazooie and Tooie, Viva Piñata, Viva Piñata Trouble in Paradise, DR3, Conker, Rare Replay, ES6, Blade, Starfield and the Fable trilogy.
I’m not as much of an Xbox gamer now and only really play backwards compatible games on my Xbox one S now.
Most games I’d expect to go to PS from Xbox would be older ones then newer ones.
I get why some Xbox gamers act as though they haven’t had any games from PS when they’ve had loads of PS Exclusive games from the PS4 already
