Having been announced last Wednesday, the monthly PS Plus Essential refresh has arrived to hand active subscribers three more PS5, PS4 titles to download and play. They're available in the UK and Europe now, and will roll out to the USA later in the day. You've got until; Tuesday 3rd December 2024 to at least redeem them on your account, and then you'll keep them for as long as you have an active subscription. The three games this month are as follows:
- Ghostwire: Tokyo (PS5) | Review
- Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged (PS5, PS4) | Review
- Death Note Killer Within (PS5, PS4)
As is customary on the site, we posted a Push Square Poll over the weekend to gather your thoughts on the selection for November 2024. The reaction was mostly negative with 42 per cent of voters responding "it's a crap selection". Only 18 per cent of readers were even slightly happy about the lineup. Ghostwire: Tokyo is the game you're most looking forward to playing, but even then, more than half of all the 3,400+ votes said they're not excited about any of the PS5, PS4 titles. A tough crowd, it seems.

I do wonder if Sony intentionally put underwhelming games up when the new releases are so impactful. Like, we have Veilguard (the first new entry in one of the main WRPG series in a decade), Metaphor ReFantazio, a new CoD, and more obscurely but relevant to my interests, a remake of Romancing Saga 2, a classic JRPG, and a new Ys game, one of the longest running JRPGs. And I'm sure many other major games, but those are the ones on my personal radar - plus CoD which I'm not a fan of but obviously loads of people are. I bet when GTA6 comes out, that month will be bad too.

At least they didn’t try to push the Death Note thing as a full priced release.
I'll uh, pass on these games.
@Czar_Khastik Thanks, now I'm in gamer prison in America for not liking CoD.
Ghostwire: Tokyo was the reason I upgraded to PS5 and I really enjoyed it. The first Hot Wheels game was a good time, so I'll definitely be giving Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged a go.
@Matroska You're actually getting sent to The Gulag.
Good month for me just for Hot Wheels, really enjoyed the 1st one so looking forward to trying this.
Will add the others to my library as I always do, but in all honesty will probably never play them lol
To be fair though as long as I get at least 1 game per month that I'm genuinely interested in, the subscription is still worth it in my opinion
It’s cool my region gets Evil West instead of Death Note
Sounds like some of y'all are sleeping on hot wheels. I mean, don't get me wrong, the "story" is goofy as all get out but ignore that and you've got a solid arcade racer.
Sucks to see people poo-pooing on Hot Wheels Unleashed 2. It's not quite as good as the original, but it's still one of the best arcade racers of the last decade.
I was interested in Death Note, cos, well it's Death Note but I'll take a pass. Evil West is good tho, just got a bit samey to me
Ghostwire tokyo for me.word up son
Bleh. Three games I'll "Add to Library" and will likely just have it sit there adding to my backlog.
Please give Ghostwire: Tokyo a try. It's not a perfect game, but its sandbox is absolutely beautiful and full of atmosphere.
