Geoff Keighley has confirmed the nominees for the 2024 edition of The Game Awards will be revealed on Monday, 18th November 2024. A particularly special year as the show celebrates its 10th anniversary, you will be able to find out what titles are up for the big Game of the Year award at 5pm GMT / 9am PT / 12pm ET.
Of the games released throughout 2024, it's assumed the likes of Astro Bot, Metaphor: ReFantazio, and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will make up some of the nominees for the biggest prizes on the night. Six titles are always nominated for Game of the Year, so there'll be a few others besides them. Of course, the announcements that go alongside the awards are just as important for viewers, and given Keighley is marking 10 years of the show, the reveals could be a tad bigger than before.
The Game Awards itself takes place on 12th December 2024. What games do you hope receives nominations this year? Share your own picks in the comments below.

Let’s go!!! I feel like Astro Bot, Rebirth, and Metaphor are locks. The remaining spots are a free for all between several games, though!
Has to be Astro Bot
I feel like LAD: Infinite Wealth isn’t going to get the recognition it deserves. There are a ton of fun games though like Rebirth, Metaphor, Stellar Blade, Astrobot (haven’t played yet tho), etc so some great ones will automatically be left out sadly
For both Best Game Direction and Games for Impact, I'd really like to see 1000xRESIST and Harold Halibut. Fantastic games that shouldn't be overlooked.
Astro or Rebirth for me. I've bounced off of Metaphor in the last few days. It's just not my game.
Unicorn Overlord and Rogue Flight unfortunately probably won't get a look, but they'd be up there with Rebirth and Astro as my goty contenders.
Best Ongoing Game award goes to... Assassin's Creed Shadows! Because development is ongoing!
Astro Bot GOTY!!!
@get2sammyb I agree with those, I would also add Silent hill 2 remake to the short list.
Obviously Stellar Blade will win OST of the year 😉
My guesses would be:
Astrobot
Metaphor
Rebirth
Tekken 8
LoZ: Echoes of Wisdom
and Space Marine 2
Helldivers 2 should make the list. But as always the show will promise hype and not deliver much.
My current top 6 are Astro Bot, Silent Hill 2, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, Neva, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and Unicorn Overlord. What a year!
THE GAMERS CALL OUT FOR CONCORD.
Sonic x Shadows Generations GOTY and it's not even close.
Astro Bot, Rebirth, Stellar Blade, Wukong, Helldivers II! I still have to play SH2
Metaphor is fine but definitely not goty material imho
Still Wakes the Deep for me.
That's why I don't really care about game awards other than for the drama, as nothing I like ever wins anything anyway.
Astrobot, Astrobot, and oh yeah, Astrobot.
@ChimpMasta I would like Still wakes the deep to win "best voice acting award" because every actor in that game did such an amazing job!
I think the other 3 nominees for GotY will be Dragon's Dogma 2, Balatro and Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth but I do wonder if Geoff will allow TLoU 2 Remastered to be eligible.
Its going to be between Astro Bot and Zelda. Astro Bot is epic at every moment. Zelda is like toys come to life. Very excited.
Really hope Square Enix (and jrpgs in general) get their W with Rebirth. I would've said that Metaphor would be my 2nd vote but the more I play it, the more disappointed I get with little things here and there so my 2nd vote would go to Veilguard which is never gonna happen but for me it's
1. Rebirth 2.Veilguard 3.Metaphor 4. Dragons Dogma 2 5. Silent Hill 2 Remake
Something like that.
People need to remember WHO actually votes to keep disappointment at a minimum.
The awards are literally the least interesting thing about the show - or better: completely worthless. They are completely useless. What is important, exclusive world premieres
"The awards are literally the least interesting thing about the show - or better: completely worthless."
Why?
@ECharles There doesn't seem to be a standardization from year to year, in terms of categories or which games should be considered for a category. It makes it hard to find value when the parameters don't feel consistent. For example, last year, Cyberpunk 2077, which is a single-player RPG, won "Best Ongoing Game." Also, last year, it felt like they really deemphasized the awards in favor of more trailers. So many winners felt like they were announced as an afterthought.
If you're looking for meaningful awards in the Video Game industry, I'd put more stock in the DICE awards, which are voted on by folks within the industry itself, rather than influencers and the public.
@ECharles I believe he means that the awards are useless because they're only opinions of other people and their preferences maybe completely different than yours, just like scores on metacritic.
@ECharles Not to speak for him but I can't possibly summon up any interest in what games a group of complete strangers liked. It's like getting hyped to see what Bob from Tennessee's favourite ice cream flavour of the year was. It's not even like we get a written review. Imagine on this site if we got no articles for a year but then suddenly one from an anonymous person saying "I most liked that DBZ game 😀"
Oh, ok. So not an issue with the actual winners that seem pretty solid to me IMO.
For me it's between Astro Bot and Metaphor this year. Surprised no one is mentioning Animal Well. Has the hype really died? I would also be surprised to not see Veilguard and Rebirth there.
@Matroska That's a bit of an oversimplification. Its not like it's just one or two people making all of the decisions. There are multiple different reviewers and outlets that all cast their votes. Its not as if some complete and utter trash like Life of Black Tiger could make into the running. If something gets nominated then it's usually of some sort of baseline quality. Usually.
I would go Astro Bot, no disrespect to the game as I really enjoy it.
But it has hardly been a vintage year across all three major players or the third parties.
I got back into gaming last year and relied on a mix of gaming awards (including all nominations) to see what was notable and picked up Elden Ring, Zelda, God of War, Ghost of Tsushima, SpderMan, Jedi Survivor, & RD2. Not too shabby!
Silent Hill deserves a nomination for GOTY. The best horror game this year without any competition.
This show gives the Oscars a run for their money when it comes to rating the bouquet of each other's farts. But usually has some exciting announcements sandwiched between copious amount of ads. 🥳
Astro Bot? More like Ass-tro Bot.
Stellar Blade, Black Myth: Wukong and Metaphor: ReFantazio are easily the best three games of the year.
@ECharles A good mix of games, can't go wrong with any of them! If you're using the awards shows as a means to find new games, then I can definitely see the utility in that.
@NapoleonDynamite Them's fightin' words.
@wildcat_kickz I stand by it.
@Azex I think these are the best guesses, with the exception that I would replace Tekken 8 with Silent Hill 2 due to recency bias. I've noticed that unless the game is INCREDIBLY mainstream, games released near the end of the year get billing over games released earlier. An example from last year I think Alan Wake II only got nominated because it was released a month earlier and still fresh for the journalist sites who cast the votes.
I also think they're going to try to sneak Veilguard in there, but at this point I believe there's too much pushback on the game's reception for anyone to buy it's a GOTY contender. Like at least TLoU2 was a divisive game, Veilguard seems to be outright rejected by the wider audience.
Guess we'll know on Monday.
I'm ready for Stellar Blade to get snubbed 🥲
@NapoleonDynamite If any of those games should be associated with ass, I think Stellar Blade would be more appropriate
@wildcat_kickz Stellar Blade's got the good kind of ass though.
1. Rebirth
2. Balatro
3. Astro Bot
4. Prince of Persia
5. Banishers
6. Life is Strange: Double Exposure
7. Animal Well
8. Mario Party Jamboree
9. I think Tekken 8
10. I dunno. Silent Hill 2 maybe? Wukong? Dragon’s Dogma 2? Bo and the Path of the Teal Lotus? I dunno.
That’s my top 10 this year, I reckon. I suppose I’m still waiting to see how the trio of Xbox titles do at the end of the year to have my list go concrete. Sort of hoping they really impress me. I’m feeling sort of strong pull to get the Dragon Quest 3 remake too. Based on the original, I would guess that one might knock Banishers and the rest of the list down one peg each, though I would love to see Banishers get recognized for literally anything. It’s an uneven game, but man are there some aspects I love about it.
@Icey664 Stellar Blade AND Unicorn Overlord unfortunately. They'll get relegated to nominees for "Best Action Game" and "Best RPG" respectively. Emio - The Smiling Man is my GOTY, but there's no dimension where that shows up for anything, let alone game of the year lol
@Kingy I forgot about Silent Hill 2 but I think you're right in that it's more likely than Tekken to be nominated
Another opportunity to get absolutely wrapped up into something totally meaningless 👍
Once again the nominees will be dominated by:
PS Exclusives
Nintendo Exclusives
3rd party bangers
and...
ZERO Xbox games
Astro Bot, Balatro, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Metaphor: ReFantazio , and Helldivers 2
Don't care who'll win goty but i'm interested with the world premiere. I wonder if Capcom gonna show RE 9...
If Geoff doesn't make a concord joke he has no balls or a sense of humor 😜
@get2sammyb Stellar Blade, Veilguard and Helldivers 2 are my picks.
@Drago201 Im sure Kratos voice actor will have that covered.
@SleeplessKnight Hellblade 2 deserves some nominations. Stalker 2 can also be nominated I think.
People saying stellar blade 😂 you'll be lucky is that even gets mentioned, I'm sure griftdivers and veilguard will steal the show, helldivers certainly doesn't deserve any win with how much content has been ripped out and locked behind an impossible grind which most people pay to skip then defend it, there is nothing helldivers does which is exceptional or new, deep rock galactic does everything it does.
Just gonna be another show where people who aren't "gamers" clap for everything and good games get overlooked, wild how a game like bg3 won so much last year when it doesn't do anything for turn based rpgs beyond appeasing coomers, just don't see how that game can win so much when a game like wasteland 3 which is superior didn't win a thing.
