UK retail has gone to war over the price of the PS5 Pro, and if you’re swift enough, you could land a deal this weekend. We must caveat, you’re still looking at a huge chunk of change here given the £699.99 price point of the new Sony system, but savings can be made.
Argos was the first to make an adjustment, plunging the price of the newly released platform to £659.99. That triggered others to price match, with Currys and EE also temporarily adopting the same savings.
Argos has since gone back up to £689.99, while Currys has settled back on £699.99. At EE you can still get the supercharged system for £659.00 and John Lewis has since matched. Some of the sites are promoting this as an early Black Friday deal.
If you did already purchase from any of these retailers and are miffed that it’s on sale just a week removed from launch, we’ve read some reports of customers getting £40 back on their launch day purchase, so it’s worth contacting customer service and seeing how you get on.
This is perhaps a sign that the PS5 Pro’s price may be fairly flexible as we forge forward into 2025, so if you fancy the format but don’t need it right away, it might be worth seeing what kind of offers emerge over the next 12 months.

Been laying some pretty heavy-hints that I’d like one as a ‘surprise’ for Chrimbo… I’m intrigued to see whether @missuskilgore will take the bate.
You could get half a disc drive with those savings.
Fastest ever post console launch sale? If it were priced appropriately at launch, why are so many retailers already content to apply various discounts weeks before Black Friday? Especially for a product that has only been available for 8 days 😳
@Lofty1985 GPUs that cost twice that much have sold out (within minutes of release in some cases) so it's not just the high price, I'd say, but the combo of price and the perception that the improvements it brings are somewhat lacking

Because the majority of people don't want this expensive unnecessary sh#t. No one is dying to run out and buy one just for the cross gen PS4 titles. It's not like Sony has had an output of consistant PS5 only games to even sell this hardware.
@Matroska @Lofty1985 Counter-point: products should be available to buy. You can pretty easily get a new iPhone after launch these days.
I'm not saying I think the PS5 Pro is selling gazillions of units, it's not — but a product being readily available to buy is not necessarily a sign of failure. That's how it's supposed to be.
@get2sammyb
"That's how it's supposed to be."
Pity that didn't happen with the drives.
@GeeForce Agreed!
Day 45 of trying to find a disc drive, may have to try my luck in a built up area over the weekend...
Yeah seemed strange and was also over very quickly as well at most stores.
I’m definitely sure PS5 and Series x along with the Pro are overpriced coming into the 4th year.
These buggers are trying to fool us and making big money on these consoles.
I think I read a report that even though Sony have sold less PS5 than PS4 their returns are higher as they made more profits by selling less consoles due to the higher mark up.
We all getting mugged off by all of them.
@get2sammyb Yeah, of course products being available is the default but it's not the default that they get discounted within days of launch. That shows a critical lack of sales (at least here) rather than simply a healthy supply of products. Within a week retailers are choosing to cut into their own profits to get rid of stock. Even those damn scalpers are doing it and given how greedy they are that's saying something.
The Switch got a fairly slow start, decent but not great, and went on to be the 2nd best selling console of all time, so it can certainly be turned around... But it also wasn't discounted within about a week. I guess you can at least say not selling out AND being discounted is a sign of Sony overestimating the appeal.
@Matroska "Within a week retailers are choosing to cut into their own profits to get rid of stock."
That's how all sales work though, and November is now Black "Friday" for most retailers for the entire month so this could just be a way for those retailers, I've never even heard of a couple of them, EE and John Lewis, to get noticed.
So while yes it does cut into their profits so does advertising and marketing, so they can be looking at it that way.
Also possible the retailers are still making a profit as at least I don't know how much Sony is keeping for themselves of that $699. Maybe Soy only gets $599 so anything over $600 is still "profit". Not that I have any idea.
Though with all that said, the retailers may have obtained a few more than they needed. 😂
Plunging is a bit of a reach for 40 quid lol
@Matroska The Ps4 Pro had a good discount when it was released as well, I think it depends on the vendor.
I think a lot of it is price matching, too. One retailer did a promotion and now everyone is matching it.
I agree it's a bit unusual to have discounts this soon, but we are kinda in silly season with regards to promotions/deals and stuff.
The problem with ps5 pro is ps5 is already good enough, it can play most open world titles like elden ring with 60 fps, it's different with ps4 pro that at least can claim it's a 4K machine.
Also ps4 pro is a $400 machine while ps5 pro is $300 more expensive. Without drive & stand too 😅
@rjejr John Lewis is the UK's biggest high end department store chain. EE is the UK's largest phone company
yup, it must be selling like hot cakes for them to be dropping the price after just 5 days on sale. that's how economics works heh... this reeks a failed marketing campaign, overstock and lack of demand.
@Porco Except we know it sold well in Japan and the US already.
As Sammy has said this just seems to be a UK price match type of thing but we'll know more once Dring gives some info on it.
@MrMagic it has not sold "well"...supposedly, sales have come close to the ps4 pro's launch if not exceeding them slightly (at best). in no way does that mean it's selling "well"... selling "well" relatively to what and by what standards? the ps4 pro only sold 14m units... which is just 12% of ps4's total lifetime sales so i wouldn't jump the gun and call the pro lines successful. all they have done is cause confusion and enable developers to become sloppy with the base hardware. i expect the ps5 pro to sell under 10m units due to its higher price point.
@ChimpMasta i disagree with your take. it is unheard of to do a price drop on a new SKU so soon after launch. something is amiss here. don't buy into the hype.
The problem with price cuts so close to launch is that, if the general public are aware, they may struggle to sell any at full price in future. More tine on sale at a discounted price than full price will not do them any favours.
That’s good for those that want one don’t forget it’s worth more now because.
This is an Xbox. 🤣🤣🤣
@Porco you know exactly what I meant. It is off to a decent start and in Hiroki's own words the sales have been slightly stronger than the PS4 Pro's and the price is higher as well.
Keep hating though, in fact why don't you go on another rant about the Portal even though we only hear good things about the monthly sales for that as well. 👍
@MrMagic right. the portal is doing so great that sony doesn't want to announce sales figures
@Porco why would they need to announce sales numbers for a controller, now the Xbox One X on the other hand, hmm, I wonder why we never got them.
Wow that's some big discount.
@Matroska sorry to be bearer of bad news but £40 would get you only 40% of a disc drive.
No one discounts items that are in stock since a week. NOBODY has ever done this when sales are good. And we are talking about a so called luxury item (not my words but some folks need to tell themselves that to feel better), they keep the value over the entire lifespan. After two days, the pro had a 10% discount in germany, even normal persons just sell them with a 100€ loss on ebay. You can essily get one for 700€ and this is just super crazy
@Neither_scene PS4 Pro was the same
People are failing to notice this isn't a Sony discount. It's Black Friday and they're competiting with each other. It's their profit margin.
"Early black friday" is such a bizarre concept. Given that black friday is basically "early christmas". Retailers are just going nuts over getting the consumer to part money with them first
@ThomasHL So you're saying John Lewis and EE didn't need to advertise this b/c 1 is a huge dept store and 1 is THE phone company so everyone knows who they are?
OK that makes sense. But does everyone normally look to dept stores and phone companies to buy their video game consoles? I don't think of Macy's or Verizon for my electronics shopping, so maybe this was just a way for those stores to say 'Hey, don't forget about us, we're more than just clothes and phones, we have PS Pro as well." 🤷♂️
Folks around here be like “Good! I don’t like this thing so I hope it fails! It’s failing! It makes me so happy!” WTF is wrong with you all? Just because you don’t think something should exist doesn’t mean it shouldn’t exist. Why are y’all like this?!
@get2sammyb Indeed. I think VERY started this by offering 20% off almost anything if you signed up to a credit agreement (which you didn’t have to use). In the case of the Pro that was a sizeable £140 off at launch, making it £560. While it wasn’t a PS5 Pro specific deal it spread round gaming forums pretty quickly and many grabbed it there instead.
I honestly wasn’t going to buy at £700, but at £560 it was far more tempting, and after selling my launch PS5 for £295 it made the Pro effectively £265. Much more palatable!
@KusoYaro It depends on your viewpoint: £40 is 4,267 rupee!
@AhmadSumadi Indifference, jealousy, sarcasm: traits of unhappiness.
@Neither_scene it is priced appropriately. Considering that Sony has to pay for another production line for the SOC, plus the R/D money for this new SOC which will lead in the PS6.
It's not selling well and that's why the price has significantly dropped already, if it was the price would still be the same as launch and this after only 2 weeks since it's launch is very telling, the retailers understandably want to move the stock instead of it taking up space in the warehouses, that space can then be used for other items that are more in demand just simple business maximising of profit potential
Even with that £40 discount they will still be making a profit as they will not sell at a loss it does make me wonder just how much it really costs before hitting storefronts
@themightyant I had something similar to that for my purchase. Mother works for Walmart so I get a discount. Got a $209 discount off the full price of $773. Then sold my OG PS5 to my niece for $350. Ended up paying $173 in total for my new Pro. If it weren’t for those discount, I’d have kept my OG.
Argos will be dropping back down to £659 for BF, They accidently went too early and other companies copies then reverted back when they saw Argos do it.
@AhmadSumadi great price, well done! I’m the same, I wasn’t going to buy till I saw the discount and did the maths. I’m happy with what I paid for what I got.
£699 without a disc drive or stand. No wonder they are readily available
@rjejr John Lewis are actually very well known for their 7 year electronic guarantees, huge electrical section. EE not so much, but have become very well known due to their add on stance. Buy a phone and add a PS5 for £20pm extra.
So while it's a point, I'd probably not use it with these two. Maybe Very or Argos..
@KusoYaro This was the comment I was looking for, and I can barely believe that 1) you're the only person to say it, but 2) someone else in the comments considers it 'significant' 🤨 I guess it's kind of subjective, but a 5.7% reduction is not significant in my books.
@EquiinoxGII I've never heard of Very but I do know Argos. Maybe everyone in these comments sections are too lowbrow for high end John Lewis so nobody ever mentions them? 😂
@rjejr yeah Argos is your typical, order and collect service, everything behind in a storeroom. John Lewis is too expensive and very high end. Think of expensive brands from clothes, house goods e.c.t. so people probably won't mention then unless then have cash to burn. Haha
