The Game Awards 2024 Hype

The Game Awards 2024 is less than a week away, and right on cue, the usual suspects are hopping on social media to leave cryptic posts about how good Geoff Keighley's event is going to be.

Okay, we're being a bit cheeky with "the usual suspects"; it's the ever-reliable Andy Robinson who's currently conducting the excitement.

"Expecting a VERY big Game Awards next week," the VGC writer teases. "Fire up the hype train."

Robinson's claim is backed by The Verge editor Tom Warren, who simply quotes the above post and adds "same". They know what they're doing!

To be fair, The Game Awards typically do feature a bunch of what most people would consider big announcements. Granted, events over recent years have been a bit hit and miss; the general consensus — at least here on Push Square — is that the show is simply too long, with meaningful reveals ultimately being buried under a whole lot of padding.

But Keighley has managed to transform The Game Awards into the most popular gaming-related event on the calendar — and so publishers are inclined to share key announcements when such a large audience is involved. Here's hoping that this year's show keeps us all wide awake for the duration...
