Sony has confirmed a new PS5 firmware update will be available for the console today, releasing worldwide in a phased format. At the time of writing (11:35 am GMT), the patch isn't available in the UK, but users in other territories are saying they can download it now. It's a 1.3GB update, and Sony has provided the patch notes ahead of time.
The PS5 version 24.08-10.40.00 patch notes are:
- We've improved the process of transferring data from another PS5 and enhanced stability when transferring large amounts of data, such as captures.
- We've improved the messages and usability on some screens.
Given the recent release of the PS5 Pro, the ability to transfer data from PS5 to PS5 Pro has been an important topic these past few weeks. It appears now, if you're transferring lots of data at once, then that process should be a better one than what's been there before. Messages will also display better, according to the patch notes.
Have you been able to download the new PS5 firmware update yet? Let us know in the comments below.

I'm in the UK and just downloaded the update
A mysterious unannounced update on the Playstation 30th anniversary you say? Interesting.
I wonder if this would fix my problems with the data transfer but I'll never know
I got both the new system software update and one system function update on my console.
Received my Pro today, so guess I'll wait until this patch comes through to set it up
Could have used the first update weeks ago. Turned a comment section into a troubleshooting discussion.
I had issues with the transfer to Pro - found old PS5, held power button until beep, then got error message telling me that it couldnt transfer data a while later. All wired connections.
Sony Technical support were not helpful, but ended up solving it using a back up (via USB drive) from my old PS5 and restoring on my Pro (transferring games via M2 drive / redownloading, and updating a couple of settings on pro like console name, and offline/sharing).
A couple of people here were most helpful in the comments section of the article on transferring.
Hopefully this issue is now permanently resolved with this patch.
After this minor issue, Pro has been fantastic.
I don't know about the transfer, but the PS1 starting screen got me shouting of joy at two o'clock in the morning....and restarting the playstation couple of times to see it again
Have only heard bad reviews about PS5 pro. So I'm sticking with PS5. And plus id like to let my feelings be heard. PS5 without disc player. The games should be a lot cheaper if it's digital. At least half the price of a disc and for the PS5 pro it's to expensive along with a lot of bad reviews. So there you go fellow gamers and Sony PlayStation network. I'm not being rude I'm just being honest. And stop taking down ps free game when I've bought the PS5 premium package. Getting really pee'd off. And that price went up last year too. In our current economy the price of everything is ridiculous and you can't eat a PlayStation only play on it. So consider yer pricing. I'm nearly 48. I've been with PlayStation since day 1. Yes Gamers I have all the PlayStations from 1 to 5 in every upgrade. Over 500 games plus the 1000 or more games on my PS5 4tb hard drives I have 7 of them. 😎 Don't get jealous now lads and ladies
I didn’t bother transferring data to the Pro, I just moved my expansion drive over and downloaded my saves on the new console. But trust Sony to release this update almost a month AFTER the Pro’s release.
This would've been more useful 2 weeks ago when I did the transfer to my new Pro. It took a few attempts to get it to work. I did it via the LAN cable method. One annoying quirk is that even with this method both consoles need to be connected to Wi-Fi to perform the transfer. But my old system was always wired, so I had to reconnect the HDMI cable to the old PS5 to connect it to Wi-Fi, then hook my Pro back up to the TV and try again. Another thing I noticed is that many settings did not transfer over, so I had to take a video recording of all the settings on my old system and then reference that to set them on the Pro. Hopefully, this update addressed these issues.
Transferring data from my PS5 to my PS5 pro was a nightmare. The only thing that worked in the end was making a backup to an external ssd. A process that took many hours, especially the part the put the backup on my pro.
@eM1x029 Shame it's only for a limited time
Easiest way to transfer your data is upload your saves to the cloud, pop your games on an external HDD (if you have one of course) then just pop them on your pro. I think the guide on this site mentions putting games on an external doesn't work but this isn't true, the PS5 doesn't tell you to format your drive if you've already used it on your original ps5 because that's how I did it.
@eM1x029 I was just finishing playing FF7 Rebirth and getting ready to go to bed at 12:30 am EST. I downloaded the update and went crazy when I saw the startup screen. The irony is that FF7 was my first game on PS1.
Welp this ***** is about a month late, PS5 to Pro transfer was a nightmare and lost all my captures too.
Hopefully this also fixes a problem I've been having since last update. Sometimes plays silly whatever and decides not to boot and needs to recover. Only been happening since the last one.
with gigabit tariffs these days, re-downloading stuff is hardly a thing in most cases
