PS Portal was roundly panned by the enthusiast PlayStation fanbase when it was announced, but it’s clear that as the peripheral has established itself, it’s turned out to be an enormous success.
The streaming device has dominated Circana’s accessory sales charts all year long, beating out similarly priced hardware like the DualSense Edge. While we don’t have specific sales numbers, the platform holder has repeatedly admitted it’s exceeded expectations.
And according to PlayStation product management boss Hiromi Wakai, those who own a PS Portal are playing their PS5 more than those who don’t.
“Players who own a PS Portal tend to spend more time playing games than those who don’t,” she told Game File. “Of course, it’s likely that users who purchase PS Portal were naturally more engaged in the first place, however, our data shows that PS Portal owners tend to spend more time playing games compared to non-owners.”
What’s particularly interesting is that PS Portal usage peaks at 9PM, one hour later than the standard PS5’s 8PM peak. “This could suggest scenarios like users playing on the console first, then later switching to PS Portal to play in another room,” Wakai explained.
