A new Sonic Racing game is in development, but here’s the briefest of hints from The Game Awards. We basically get to see a few seconds of Shadow the Hedgehog’s fist, as he jumps into a black-and-red sports car.
Unfortunately, there’s no release date or no mention of gameplay mechanics or roster. The name implies this will strictly be restricted to Sonic the Hedgehog characters, as opposed to the collection of SEGA avatars featured in Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed. (A personal favourite of this author!)

Beyond disappointed that it’s just Sonic. Sega Racing Transformed is brilliant and Sega have a really wide group of people to stick in a game like that, more if you include Atlus and RGG Studio.
It is called "CrossWorlds." Unless they're doing a Sonic Prime thing, I would say that name leaves the opportunity open for an All-Stars affair.
I'm guessing CrossWorlds refers to either crossover with other Sega franchises again (this I would like) or just characters from other Sonic media (mainly IDW, Prime and the movies), the latter would be boring imo.
I also noticed that this game is being developed by Sega Hardlight instead of Sumo Digital like the previous racing games since Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing. Most likely because Sumo Digital was bought by Tencent.
Sonic Racing Transformed is easily as good as any Mario Kart and I'd love to see it ported to modern consoles or have a new entry in the same style. Still, I'll be keeping an eye on this one and perhaps the title does allude to it having more than just Sonic in it
To echo what the rest of you guys are saying, Transformed is not only an incredible game, it's like Sega Smash Bros...except racing. Which makes sense. Cause Sega. Anyway, then they made it just about Sonic and his idiot friends, actually FORCING the player to engage with the lamest characters ever created. Significant downgrade, imo.
The Sonic & Sega All Stars games are brilliant - even after all this time and being stuck on the PS3/Vita generation.
Here's hoping we get a new version of a firm fan favourite.

Team Sonic Racing wasn’t anywhere near as good as those two were
Easily the biggest disappointment of the night (if is only Sonic characters), instead of making a sequel to the beloved All-star Racing & Transformed games they want to follow up the terrible Team Sonic Racing!?
Why is it so hard for them to port, remaster, or make another SONIC RIDERS, ffs
Was kinda hoping for a SA1/SA2 remaster for current gen with the new Sonic moving out soon. Still excited. The last 2 Sonic racing games where great.
At this point for games without release dates I’m kinda bummed PS4, and especially Switch, are still getting versions. Can’t help but think they’ll be held back trying to run on older tech. Not saying games still can’t release on PS4 and Switch, but smaller indie stuff, and Just Dance. A racer like this I’d like to see push some boundaries.
I suppose even making a Switch2 version means a PS4 version is easily possible but a Switch version I’m afraid will hold it back like Series S. See also Cyberpunk on PS4.
