As we quickly approach the holiday season, the UK's physical games chart is looking about as predictable as you can imagine — save for one new entry.
Black Myth: Wukong launched to retail on 12th December, and it's managed to secure a debut position of 7th place.
That's not too shabby considering the game has been available digitally since August, and that the remainder of the top 10 is made up of consistently popular software.
The top three is particularly predictable; first is EA Sports FC 25, followed by Hogwarts Legacy and then Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. It'll be one of these three that'll snag the Christmas number one.
The remainder of the top 10 is quite Nintendo-heavy, which is no surprise. As well as Wukong, we have Sonic X Shadow Generations in ninth, down a couple of places from last week.
Hovering just outside the top 10 are a couple of PS5 exclusives; Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and Astro Bot are in 11th and 12th respectively.
Here's the latest top 10 in full (physical sales only).
UK Sales Charts: Week Ending 14th December, 2024

- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

Game Science did a terrible job on the Pro patch.
@JustCameHereToSay Wait for real? I was thinking of getting Wukong because of the Pro patch, but if it ain't good I'll hold off on it.
@JustCameHereToSay Sharpness setting was the only good thing added and i suppose Quality mode being finally locked to 30fps is good as well. I guess 120hz players get there 40fps mode as well but yeah i'm pretty annoyed performance mode saw zero improvements as well as the Pro version getting zero visual upgrades as well.
@Oram77 60fps still looks gross and balanced mode is super weak compared to the balanced mode of Stellar Blade, it feels and looks like molasses.
60fps still has this garbage black square on the screen when you move the camera around.
And yeah, the devs being babies over losing an award doesn’t really make me want to support them anymore either.
The fact that Mario Kart 8 is in the top 10 is wild! Also for all the Wukong "fans" moaning about the awards, Hogwarts Legacy got snubbed last year which sold just as good as Wukong, but none of them were crying about it, just saying.
@Oram77 If you have a 120hz tv then it might be worth it for the 40fps mode but otherwise its a terrible Pro patch.
@DennisReynolds 40fps is some of the worst 40fps I have ever seen.
Personally I was hoping Astro Bot's GOTY success will propel it up the charts, even if it doesn't make the Top 10 again. To be clear I don't think it sold badly, it's a small studio on a shorter timeline, it never needed to sell 5+ million to be a success, but more sales would help Sony to make more smaller bets like this.
@JustCameHereToSay That's a shame to hear. But I already have too much to play that is in a good state, happy to wait on this one.
@themightyant you might see that happen next week to be fair, the chart only records sales to the day after it won GotY.
@colonelkilgore Indeed. I doubt it will catapult it back into the Top 10 regardless (thought stranger things have happened), but would love it to get a sales boost.
The devs are upset again for not securing first place.
@baubergo which devs?
Where did Indiana Jones chart:?
People are still buying the game despite it not winning Game of the Year. Why aren't they buying Astro Bot instead? It's almost like the award is fairly pointless in the grand scheme of things.
Would expect nothing less from our wonderland we call UK. Great game for playing while eating pie, btw.
Are they crying about not getting first place?
@themightyant game awards was in the early hours of the 13th, significant number of people wouldn't even have been aware of its win before the cut off date for this list nevermind been able to purchase it off the back of its win. There was literally just a few hours available. If it's to see a boost from winning GOTY, it will be seen in the coming weeks.
