The Exit 8, an eerie, cult hit, indie walking sim, is being turned into a film.
In the works at Japanese movie studio Toho, the film is due to arrive in theatres in 2025.
The teaser trailer, which we've embedded above, gives you a taster of how the adaptation is looking, and it's pitch perfect in terms of the aesthetic and the atmosphere. Even the man's walking pace seems right.
The game initially launched on Steam in November 2023 before arriving on consoles later, including PS5 and PS4 in August 2024. On the PS Store, The Exit 8 had a couple of imitators by the time it launched.
Developer KOTAKE CREATE comments that they were "surprised and grateful" about the movie adaptation in a translated message on the film's website.
"When I heard about the movie, I wondered how they would turn a game without a story into a movie, but I think it has turned out to be an interesting movie without destroying the world view and atmosphere of Exit 8," they said.

Looks spot on!
Cool I guess, but also why? The core of the experience is finding the inconsistencies yourself and adjusting accordingly. I love P.T. but I don't want to watch a film reproducing the exact events of P.T., because it was being in control and forcing myself to progress that made the experience equally enthralling and terrifying.
This is fantastic. I can’t wait to see this. Exit and Platform 8 were two of my favorite gaming experiences that I tried this year.
Not sure how this is going to work as a movie but we'll see.
I'm expecting some full on Silent Hill esque thing. Like the guy has been a bad father or husband or something, and being stuck in a train station (surely there is more then just the corridors) is his punishment.
