In behaviour unique to niche gaming communities, dedicated players of the asymmetrical multiplayer Friday the 13th: The Game have put on a sombre display as servers were severed for good. The title was removed from storefronts in August 2023, but apparently, the fine print read that servers would run through New Year's Eve 2024 for players on PC. Some of the game's most hardcore enthusiasts were logged in for its final moments.
Observed by GamesRadar+, X user iitempx captured the strange scene. Launched back in 2017, the game has had a fairly rough go of things. Initially selling well, following an unfortunate lawsuit with the director of the original Friday the 13th film, publisher Gun Media found itself unable to create anything new related to the IP, an effective death sentence for the game. Below, peruse some of the scenes that could be witnessed as the cruelly killed game came to a close, and always remember that licensed IP is a double-edged sword.
What do you think of the final moments of Friday the 13th: The Game? Dance sadly and alone in the comments section below.

sad when notable games get shut down. this game was a whole vibe back in the day when it was supported. the ps4 era was great
I'm not a big fan of these types of games, but I really enjoyed this one for some reason.
It was like Dead By Daylight but nailed the horror vibe better. One of the best examples of sound design if the last gen.
@Bentleyma Afaik there’s only been about 4 asymmetric mp online games and they just don’t seem to take off do they.
Still always heartwarming to see gamers being happy gamers.
I played this game on day one and I played on its final day. Yes, it was buggy. Yes, it had issues, but I had a blast playing it! So many fond memories playing this game. It wasn’t for everybody but I am so sad to see it go. Right now I’m having the same feeling when a loved one dies which is stupid because it’s just a game, but it’s how I’m feeling. Farewell F13. How I miss you already. 🥺
I played it at launch on PlayStation 4 and after I got the Platinum on an older account, I redid the game on my current account, simply because I loved it so much! It was buggy, but everyone had the same bugs to deal with, so it always felt even when I played with friends. We even started to play it every Friday night as a wind down game after a hard week! Loved those sessions so much, always a huge laugh with a full lobby of friends. I wasn’t there at the end, but I will still miss the game loads!!
Loved my time with it and a platinum I still fondly remember even though it was a big grind.
I'm a massive Friday The 13th fan but this game just didn't do it for me. The nods/references/fan service were top notch but the gameplay didn't click for me. Still sad to see it go because I know many fans still enjoy it.
At least Jason Lives on in Multiversus and Mortal Kombat X.
At least we still have Friday the 13th on NES!!
