Sony spent a long time talking about anime during its CES 2025 press conference today, reminding everyone that it’s all-in on the rapidly growing medium.
While it used most of its time explaining to the audience why anime matters, it also announced a new project: Ghost of Tsushima Legends, inspired by the dark fantasy online multiplayer mode in the Sucker Punch game, from Aniplex and Crunchyroll. The series will air in 2027.
Here’s what the press release reveals: “Takanobu Mizuno (Star Wars: Visions The Duel) will direct the series at Kamikaze Douga, with Gen Urobuchi writing the story composition. The anime will be produced in collaboration with Aniplex, with Sony Music serving as music and soundtrack partner. Additional staff and cast were not announced at the time of the panel.”
Remember, a live action Ghost of Tsushima movie is also in the works from John Wick’s Chad Stahelski.
Are you interested in an anime adaptation of Ghost of Tushima? It seems like a good fit to us, and we’re excited to learn more in the future.

The Sony administration talked about having their own anime and tbh they don't need to buy Kadokawa for that, they already have great IP that can be great animes. This is fantastic news I hope they see the potential of Infamous in the future.
A Ghost of Tsushima anime is one of those no-brainer ideas that I'm surprised PlayStation didn't do sooner.
Gen Urobuchi writing it is a big highlight, he is commonly known as Gen Urobutcher due to the bleak stories he writes. Can't wait.
Now this is actually a good idea, unlike 99% of the multimedia crap.
Devs kind of hinted about it months ago when they talked about expanding the ghost ip. Now we have ghost 2, the anime , the movie and maybe a multiplayer title follow up to legends
@RBMango I think it may be a sign of their confidence with Yotei too. With the PC reception, the original Playstation fan reception which has still not waned I can see them seeing this as a strike while the iron is hot moment.
The options for an anime for a modern PS franchise always leaned Horizon or Ghost.
Loved the base game. Hated that awful Legends multiplayer-centric dlc they shoehorned into it. Had to slog through that garbage to get back to 100% trophy completion.
Platform holders need to mandate there be no additional content bolted on if it doesn’t conform to what the base experience entailed. Not everyone wants a piss poorly designed raid, or the mindless, repetitive monotony of a low-effort wave survival mode. I never would have bought the game if I knew in advance that filth was going to be forced in.
What is it with Sony first party studios and the dichotomy of being able to craft nearly flawless single player masterpieces on command, and then butchering them with terrible DLC’s? Uncharted, The Last of Us, Days Gone, Ghost of Tsushima, GoW Ragnarok…WTF
@Balaam_ "Hated that awful Legends multiplayer-centric dlc they shoehorned into it."
It's not a shoehorned when it's optional and also free. Why you download it if you don't want to play it?
Anyway...
I'm interested with how they gonna do the anime. If it still Jin or a new character.
If this is Cyberpunk: Edgerunners again, fantastic. But if it's a middle of the pack anime, I don't see what about Ghost's setting that would make it worth watching.
It's hard to judge, the studio and director have basically never made an anime before. On the other hand, the writer is one of the greatest - Madoka Magica, Fate/Zero, Psycho Pass
@GymratAmarillo I would watch the hell out of an animated Infamous series! Miss that IP
@Balaam_ It was free and was awesome! Also, the Ragnarok DLC is amazing, too!
I'm not a multiplayer fan but legends was pretty cool, especially the cooperative aspects. But I do hate trophies connected to online functions.
Anime sounds like a great idea, but I hope it'll be similarly stylised like the star wars short. So many anime's these days are just so unremarkable in style and story. I miss 90s anime.
Ok, this one has potential, lets just hope they do a CDProjekt and let the japanese team handle this one.
@CielloArc Aniplex is doing it.
Well the fact it's Anime has pretty much killed it for me but I still might check out some bits as I love the game
I’ll watch anything Gen Urobuchi writes, certified banger incoming.
@Balaam_ Butchering them with terrible DLC's? What are you on about? These are all OPTIONAL, if you want more, and reviewed well.
Where's the butchering?
