Helldivers 2 PS5 PC

Helldivers 2 creative director Johan Pilestedt has announced he'll start work on the next game from Arrowhead Studios after he's taken a sabbatical (an extended break from work). On Twitter, he said that after 11 years of working on the IP, he has "set aside" his family, friends, and himself. As such, he's taking some time away to reconnect.

"11 years of working 'around the clock' on the same IP has made me set aside family, friends and my lovely wife... and myself," Pilestedt added. "I am going to take some time now to redeem what was lost from all of those that supported me for over a decade." When he returns, he'll "start working on the next Arrowhead game".

As per his LinkedIn page, Pilestedt has worked at Arrowhead Studios for almost 16 years, joining as CEO. He oversaw the launch of the original Helldivers game on PS4, PS3, and PS Vita in 2015, and then a year later work on Helldivers 2 began. More recently, he moved into a Chief Creative Officer role at the developer so he could focus more on game development again rather than the business side of things.

Along with the Helldivers series, Arrowhead Studios has also produced the first Magicka game and Gauntlet. It's been tied mostly to PlayStation consoles, however, due to Sony publishing both Helldivers titles. Whether that relationship will continue with the team's next game remains to be seen, but given Helldivers 2 quickly became Sony's fastest-selling game of all time, it'll surely be interested in what's next.
