According to GamesRadar+, it's been over 1,000 days since we last had a tangible word of Kingdom Hearts IV, and we're inclined to believe it's been that long (this is Square Enix we're talking about). Thankfully, it's the 15th anniversary of Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep's PSP release, and director Tetsuya Nomura has vaguely alluded to the next mainline release, suggesting the story has at least been done for some years.
In a post on X, Nomura touched on many topics, largely relating to the motif of the crossroads and the idea that a heavy price must be paid to gain something of import, themes which have been ever-present throughout the Kingdom Hearts series. Nomura teases the implications of Kingdom Hearts 3's epilogue: "But wait... when the Lost Masters gather at the crossroads in KH3, what is gained and what is lost? That's a story for another time."
Are you holding out for Kingdom Hearts IV? Do you think you have your mind wrapped around where Sora and the gang are headed next? Let us know (briefly) in the comments section below.

Come on, Nomura! This year!
Im honestly fine with this. Just means it’s really being worked on, or not priority at the moment. I would absolutely hope they’ve got big plans with this game, since KHIII was rather underwhelming compared to KHII.
I’m not really paying attention to the development with knowing how long they always take. But I’ll definitely jump in right away when it comes out
Let Nomura cook. He will show the game when it's ready.
SMH. Gamers complaining about publisher released unpolished-buggy games. But they themself are always rushing devs to complete the game instead of let them do their job without unneeded pressure.
This game does not exist anymore lol
@PuppetMaster I agree to let them cook and not pressure devs and publishers to release a buggy game early.
BUT they also didn’t have to announce this 3 years ago and then go silent. I have a problem with announcing games far too early. To echo Nomura: What was gained and what was lost?
I seriously wonder what the actual player base for KH is in 2025. I haven't heard much hype for a new game.
I loved the first two games, played 258/2 days and BBB back in the day. Still want to play KH3, I might do that this year.
@themightyant They didn't completely radio silent. It was last year where Nomura talked about KH series and KH 4 will be the beginning of the series conclusion.

And KH 4 was announced 3 years after KH 3 released. If they don't announce KH 4 until the game is near finish then there will be a long gap of nothing and the fans will think the series is done.
I say SE did right to announce KH 4 early in development because the fans have something to look forward rather than they think the series is done when it isn't.
Square Enix should give us another 1000 days so we have enough time to understand the story so far
I still need to "play" Union/Dark Road to be fully up to date with the lore, but I can wait more for KH4, as my hands are full with other games.
@LifeGirl Well there isn't much to be hyped on yet except that there is a sequel incoming eventually. I'm excited to see what it looks like but the game could be anything at this point
@LavenderShroud I really hope so too
@LifeGirl Well my brother is a big fan of it. And really there’s just nothing going on with the series. I’m sure if anything new was announced or there was ANY sort of news he’d be excited. But there just isn’t much for the player base right now. Even the newest mobile game got delayed.
@Overmind
You mean KH 358/2 Days?
Make sure to get the Remind dlc for KH3, I haven’t gotten it myself but I did enjoy KH3.
KH2 is still probably my favourite KH though
@Dragoon1994
Typo, but yes. I'm Dutch, and back then I actually imported a NTSC ps2 to play KH2 six months earlier. It just might be my favourite SE game ever made.
This has got to come out this year or squeenix' bottom line will hurt. They don't have an FFXIV expansion this year to carry slack.
Ironically, the best way to cope with this franchise's wait time is to forget about it.
Might as well do that for Project Awakening, Pragmata, Deep Down, and maybe Project Robot to be safe too. It's worth the surprise later.
Honestly I wanna hate nomura for this normally I do but bro really said The Devil Went Down to Georgia inspired basically all of KH, he may actually be Kojima/Araki brained I love him
