One of the best things about the live action Sonic movies is Jim Carrey's portrayal of Dr. Robotnik, with the actor earning praise in particular for the just-released Sonic the Hedgehog 3.
In a recent interview, Carrey has shared that he's "open" to the idea of coming back for further films.
"In general they come to me with the next idea, and if I go, 'Oh, that sounds fun', then I'll do it," Carrey says in the clip, speaking to Japanese outlet Cinema Today.
The actor also had good things to say about the Sonic movie team and the fans. "I certainly love this crew, I love this gang that makes these movies, and I love the fans. I think there's a lot of really great energy around [Sonic]."
After Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Carrey stated he'd be taking a step back from acting, but despite that, he came back for the follow-up. Now, he's apparently not retiring from acting, but will instead be "power-napping" between projects.
It's good to know that any future appearances from Robotnik in the movies will be played by Carrey, who has really taken to the character in his own way.

More like he loves the massive pay check, can't say i blame him lol
Well I mean sonic 4 is already confirmed and there's the cut content from all 3 films they can do something with
inflation & celebrity taxes got jim carrey milking trilogies
@Americansamurai1 good for him, he deserves it.
He's a massive part of why the movies are so good, not just as an antagonist for Sonic but also his relationship with Agent Stone and he clearly loves playing the character
He was excellent in Sonic 3 and that dance sequence was just incredible but he did get a great ending as well if it is his final appearance.
@riceNpea yeah he really did a great job in the role.
I have found the first sonic movie so bad that I didn't even bother to watch the second whichever part it is.
Never finished first movie too
I watched this interview clip back when the movie was about to come out. It's funny that everyone is suddenly reporting on it now.
Jim Carrey a weirdo...but in a good way. We need more of this whimsical energy in the world.
It's kind of funny really because there was a point where he hated his clown image and was trying to branch out as a ''serious'' actor. And in fairness he did make some gems during this period. The Truman Show in my opinion is a very underrated film.
He also had such a negative experience on the few sequels that he did do that he swore off those as well.
And now here he is: As Dr ''Ace Ventura'' Robotnik coming back for a fourth Sonic film. Time and money heals all wounds lol.
@Americansamurai1 I can't think of anything he's been in that he was subpar. Even the films some people panned, like Cable Guy. Easily one of my favourite comic actors, behind Rik Mayall and Leslie Nielsen.
@LifeGirl I think he grew quite disillusioned with Hollywierd and became more spiritual, which only made my like him all the more.
@riceNpea was it around the time he played/became possessed by Andy Kaufman? That was quite an intense role, and spiritual to boot, so I wouldn't be surprised if it changed something within him
@Ravix it was after Kick Arse 2, I think, because he distanced himself from it and its violence. Around that time he started become more interested in enriching his soul.
@riceNpea I don't know if he had a bit of mental breakdown.
I kean the guy praised kick ass 1 and wanted to be in kick ass 2. .
So he knew what he was letting himself in for with that type of movie.
Something really snapped inside.
It was very strange.
Jim seems to be entering his bill Murray era with the films he does. Bill set up a number and answer machine. Film folk leave voicemails with pitches on and he occasionally checks the vm's. If anything stands out he gets in touch. If not he just leaves the machine on again.
As long as the movies are well received he is willing to keep cashing in. 😂
With that said... what he doesn't know is the Robotnik's arc peaks with shadow.
There is only Sonic adventure 1 or Sonic CD/heroes left to adapt. I don't think anything that comes after has any sort of plot power. Maybe Sonic 06 for Silver's story minus the princess kissing.
I can't see anyone else but Carrey playing as Eggman now, so thats good to know.
As he says
"I need the money"
Apparently
@Bez87 that's what I'm saying too. At some point around that time he took stock of life and made changes that were beneficial to his mental health. Took to painting instead of acting.
I mean he’s great as Eggman (Robotnik) so why not carry on with letting him reprise his role for future films
I wouldnt watch a sonic 4 in theatres if they are going with Jim Carrey for the 4th installment ; Eggman is comedic but not in the way they portray him in live form . his act grew stale after part 2 and 3 was more of the same so no sonic 4 if hes attached and will wait for it on demand
