Ninja Gaiden 2 Black Remasters an Action Classic, Out Now on PS5

On Gamepass too I believe. If only PS could add it to PS Extra

I can understand $50 being too steep for some, but this is one of my favorite action games ever, got no problem paying that to have it on PS5.

This is awesome, but serious question. Why are companies releasing remakes/remasters of sequels first? Or is it just because the first game is totally unrelated. I've never played Ninja Garden or Silent Hill 1/2, or even the first four Resident Evil games, but I've played MGS1 and never played 2. Why remake 3 before 1?

It’s a little pricey, but considering how much of an overhaul the game has got, I think it’ll be worth it. I’ll probably pick it up.

Hoped for a bit more new content than an easy mode for modern audience and playable Ayane, but it will do, she was fun to play in Razer's Edge (but Kasumi was more fun).

Does it fix the ridiculously bad camera angles that were no issue in the original Ninja Gaiden?

I'm kinda confused, isn't NG2 SIGMA basically the equivalent for that game as "NG Black" was for the first one? (all of which got Remasters on PS4/Xbone/Switch like a couple years ago)

If this is just a full on Remake of NG2S with extras and in UE5? why not do NG1S first instead of starting at the second game? 🤷‍♂️

More excited about this than Ninja Gaiden 4! One of the best 3rd perosn action games; we've gone from a dearth of classic ps3 era style games to a whole feast the past 6 months. 👌

Ill just wait for deep discount with it being available for cheaper on other platforms

Continueing to hate the trend of calling remakes “remasters” when they’re obvious remakes.

50 bucks is an absolute joke. Seems like they’re charging more due to it being in gamepass. I’m good.

How I've missed hack n slash games like this. Souls games just ain't for me, but this. Ohhhh boy

@MrRhysReviews Sigma 2 is quite a different game. It isn't balanced the same, combat is much slower, it has different content and removed all of the blood and decapitations initially. The PS3 version also changed a lot of the fights because it couldn't handle anywhere near the same number of enemies on screen as the 360. Instead they made each enemy harder to kill.

Tomonobu Itagaki made the first 2 games exclusively for Xbox/Xbox 360 and never intended for them to ever be on PlayStation. Once he left Team Ninja, they decided to create "lesser" ports for the PS3.

The Xbox 360 version was definitely the better of the two Ninja Gaiden 2 games and that's the version this is based on thankfully.

@MrRhysReviews So the Sigma games were ports to the PS3 that made changes and added content, those were the ones included in the recent collection. Both Sigma and Sigma 2 are generally considered inferior to Ninja Gaiden Black and Ninja Gaiden 2 respectively. 2 especially cut back on the gore so it could release in Germany.

This one is kind of a middle ground between Ninja Gaiden 2 and Sigma 2, bringing in characters from Sigma 2 but with the game going more in line with the original

How bizzare, why wouldn't you remaster the first game first?

Looks slick, but 40 quid is a massive sting in the tail. I can't honestly support this pricing decision. Will wait for deep sale.

So glad to see this coming to PS5 and Pro Enhanced. The Xbox version is glitched and basically unplayable due to constant cloud save and network error pop-ups (at least on Series X or S).

For now anyway, which I guess isn't surprising since it is a remaster of a game from summer 2008. Hopefully if there's enough interest a physical release could happen in the future maybe around the time 4 comes out.

@ItsAlwaysSunnyyy It varies from title to title, but it usually has to do with which game is the most well-regarded. That way, new players have a "best-foot-forward" introduction to the series, while also hoping for higher sales numbers from a higher quality game getting the remaster treatment.

Silent Hill 2 is considered the best game in the series
MGS3 is many people's favorite, while also being the first game chronologically
RE1 was remade on GameCube, so RE2, 3, and 4 were next up

Price is slighly higher than I was hoping, but given the upgrade and the fact that I want to show Ninja Gaiden has an audience, I am currently watching it download as I speak. Thrilled to play this again and assuming it comes physical (not through limited release companies), I will double dip.

Glad to see Microsoft releasing games on PS b/c all I see Sony releasing is news about how well their hardware sold last year, games that may not be coming out this year, and a slew of cancelled games.😝

Maybe Sony should keep making hardware and sell all of their game divisions to Microsoft. Well Sony can keep Team Asobi, MS wouldn’t want them anyway.😂

@ItsAlwaysSunnyyy Again, it depends, but a lot of numbered games are more anthology than linear. And even if they were connected, you're usually not losing enough context for it to be a big deal. Can't speak to Silent Hill, but I played MGS3 back in the day without playing any others and it was perfectly fine.

If its launching on GP, I will give it a miss until they seriously reduce the price as they clearly dont have a high enough opinion of their own games ability to generate sales - this is not a 1st release for a new studio, or new game type etc that could be forgiven for taking a small amount of guaranteed revenue.

I love the series so much and I'm hoping that NG3 gets the "Black" treatment too. I know that Razor's Edge exists but I'd love to see that game refined and released in Unreal 5.

@BamBamBaklava89 It being on gamepass will not effect the price at all. Even if it wasn't on gamepass it would likely still be $50. Given the lower install base of the Xbox series consoles, mixed wioth it being an older niche title they are probably getting more from it being on GP than they would have got in sales.

@wildcat_kickz @ItsAlwaysSunnyyy MG3 makes some sense in the fact that its the most popular and is the first game in the series timeline. You could easily play 3 and not need any of the knowledge from the other games at all. Silent hill 2 was similar in that its the same town but nothing else major is linked or matters, SH 3 however was a direct sequal to SH1 if i recall correctly.

Kinda weird to see people say 40-50 bucks is too pricey for one of the best character action game in gaming history. Not to mention this version has better graphic too especially without that silly purple mist from Sigma.

@AyanamiReign The first game already has a definitive version (that being Black) which is available on Xbox consoles atm. That's probably why.

Loved the original NG's used to replay them so often. Shame it's not the first as I loved that game so much.

I assumed these were on PS4 already? Ok Master Collection was on PS/Xbox/Switch/PC but making these PS5 compatible that's fair with the Dualsense support, 4K and more that's fair and similar for Xbox Series (no Impulse triggers support though? I assume they would right?).

To offer in the meantime of Ninja Gaiden 4 that's fair.

I'll stick to my Sigma PS3 and OG 360 copy of 2. I may get 1 Black or so and I have 3 to play (I think Razor's Edge version I forget).

I had considered these games in remaster form but I'm not sure yet. They are challenging and way harder or require more endurance then God of War, DMC, Bayonetta or Darksiders ever did.

I am part way through Gaiden Z too (own all Spark games shooters and Gaiden Z).

Should look into MS reward points while they're not as good as they used to be, they will bring the price down. The closest I've gotten to paying full price for GP since it released was buying a few years worth of EA play and converting.

My GPU doesn't run out until August 2026 and then I'll just get another year with my points. Since they've brought down the amount you can stack to 13 months.

Also there's more than just 1 game to play on the service. Ive played many games that I wouldn't have tried but did because they were "free". Also saved money by being able to try games first before actually buying them on the PS5.

You should check out the games that are being added this year. If u want to play a game that's leaving u can buy it for a discount. Or wait a bit longer and buy it in a sale. Though I don't buy games on the Xbox, I use it just for GPU.

Just my thoughts on the whole "you're renting games" argument against GPU. When I was young we used to rent games from stores for 1 or 2 nights at a time.

Perhaps the only game I'll be buying this year is Ghost of Yotei. The sooner it comes out the better as I've nearly finished my 4th play through of Ghost of Tsushima.

Great to see the series back but wished they would remaster/remake the first game was the best one by far.

@Nexozi I appreciate your response and your take on it. However it wasn’t supposed to be an argument against GPU, i was just stating a fact. When someone says $50 on PS but it’s free on Xbox, its not a fair comparison.

These are just different ways of getting the game, but make no mistake both will cost you money. And yes, one is in fact a rental service, so if you end your subscription you will lose access to your game.

Ok but where's Ninja Gaiden Black Remastered?

I might get this on a discount since it was my first Ninja Gaiden back in X360.

So the Sigma line gets simple ports for a reasonable price, then the Black line get remakes, likely with a Black version of NG3 to cap it off, and the story continues with a rip-off of DMC4 (complementary). Would not be surprised if the start referring to Razor's Edge as "Ninja Gaiden Sigma 3: Razor's Edge".

Unreal Engine 5 has me a little nervous. I think I'll wait for tech reviews as I don't trust that Engine at all.

I would but I’m in Canada and the time has come to not buy as many games due to our stupid taxes. 13% is not reasonable for a game. But I also feel that the price (66 CAD) is a lot for a remake (this isn’t a remaster, period, this is far too big of an upgrade) that has no physical option.

I get where ur coming from as well with people saying games are free when they're renting them. I guess they're viewed as free as its a game getting added to the service that they've already been paid for.

This year does look to be a spectacular year for GPU in terms of value. Which is probably the first time that could be said. Last year was good with Indy and COD.

@ItsAlwaysSunnyyy Ninja Gaiden II is a direct sequel to the original, if I remember correct. My guess would be that they didn’t bother doing the first one because they’ve already done Ninja Gaiden Sigma and Ninja Gaiden Black in the past, though I could be wrong. I was just playing it last week on the collection and it really holds up well, the graphics, sound, and gameplay all are still great.
If you like action games, I can’t recommend Ninja Gaiden Sigma or Black enough, I’ve probably bought and played that game more than any other game.

@Odium I completely agree. Xbox NG Black and 360 NG2 are the best versions but I still bought and really enjoyed the Sigma games. I still have all of my original copies too.

I'm also probably one of the few people who actually really liked NG3 and Razor's Edge. I have that on 360, PS3 and Wii U. I'd like to see that game get the "Black" treatment.

@__jamiie they’re such great games. Admittedly, 3 is a blind spot for me. I got pretty far into it, but I borrowed my friend’s copy, he ended up taking it back before I beat it. It’s one I’ve been wanting to go back to, I didn’t find it nearly as bad as others did.

I'm currently (re)playing NG Black and am going to play through every game from start to finish before I play NG2 Black. Hopefully I'll be finished before NG4 releases or if one of my Xbox controller fails on me. Wish me luck!
