Sony has today confirmed the first PS Plus Essential lineup of 2025, bringing another three PS5, PS4 games to the base tier of its subscription service. Available to download and play from Tuesday, 7th January 2025, the titles are as follows:
- Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League (PS5)
- The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe (PS5, PS4)
- Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered (PS4)
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League obviously has its fair share of critics, but PS5 owners may be interested to finally give the title a go now it's included with their subscription.
"Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League is a complicated game," we wrote in our 6/10 review. "It's tough not to think about what could have been if Rocksteady opted for another traditional single player title — especially since the split personalities at this game's heart stop it from reaching the heights of the developer's previous works. That said, despite all of our complaints, we can't deny that the game's fun.
The other games in this month's lineup are pure quality, though. "Once the element of surprise is gone, there's little reason to return — but while it lasts, this is easily among gaming's most unique and memorable journeys," we wrote of The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe in our 9/10 review.
We were similarly praiseworthy of Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered in our 8/10 review: "Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered brings back a fantastic arcade racing game, and is still brilliant fun 10 years down the line. Autolog feels right at home in 2020, and the over-the-top cops vs. racers gameplay is a blast."

Delighted with all three of these. I’ve wanted to play SS with my son for a while but couldn’t justify the full price so this is ideal. Always loved Hot Persuit and I’ve heard good things about the Stanley parable. Decent month all round
Brilliant month. I own all of them, but if you don’t, there is some great gaming there.
I'm still not playing that trash Suicide Squad.
Knew suicide squad would make it to ps plus eventually, finally time to check it out
Suicide Squad, what a surprise.
I've always intended to play Stanley Parable, so I'm please with that addition.
Hot pursuit Remastered is a really good game from back in the day, so that’s strong. I bought Suicide Squad during the last sale and apart from a few cutscenes, I have enjoyed the game way more than I expected. Sure, it’s not in the same league as the Arkham titles, but it’s not the same kind of game at all, so I can live with that.
Ahahahahahahahahaha!!! No way they are giving away Suicide Squad!
I can't say I'm upset that my subscription has run out, though Stanley Parable is a good game but I wouldn't play Suicide Squad if you paid me
I actually joked with a friend last night that we'd be getting Suicide Squad now here it is. I'll definitely check out The Stanley Parable though, I've been curious about that one for a while.
Honestly, not bad. I'll give Suicide Squad a shot for free, and I'm really looking forward to The Stanley Parable.
Im happy with Stanley parable, already had suicide squad on the cheap but now can get rid of the physical lol need for speed is usually a good shout but i didn't get on with unbound so hopefully this one is better
I bought Hot Pursuit Remastered last year but still I would consider it a good month even though its the only game of the three I would play.
We all knew Suicide Squad was coming to PS Plus eventually, but the fact that we got this lump of coal in our stocking at the very end of the holiday season is very funny to me.
Bad month for me i dont have a ps5 so no suicide squad for me not that id play it anyway, i don't like driving games so i may just try the stanley parable
Really good month imo.
The Stanley Parable is wonderful, but I own it since launch. And I couldn't be any less interested in Dead Service 47 and Car Thing 12.
Save your time and don't bother with Suicide Squad
Stanley is where it's at. The rest can go and s... ok, ok, the year just started, take it easy ffs.
There are so many games to choose from, every month could be a good month, and yet more often than not it's 1 game is ok and the rest are just fodder.
I'd rather they just gave one game a month and make it exceptional.

I guess its time to try out Suicide Squad
Oh excellent! I did just buy SS to play with my buddy online but I got the deluxe edition for cheap for no big loss. Stanley piqued my interest very recently so that’ll be great for a first-time playthrough
Wanted Stanley and NFS so I’m happy.
Loved it!! Despite the bad rap, I was planning to buy Suicide Squad anyways in a sale, so it's very welcome!! The other titles are interesting too!!
I’m not even redeeming Suicide Squad, but I’m happy more people will play Stanley Parable!
I'll play suicide squad with my nephew who loves it so I can't complain. Need for speed is one of my fave entry's in the series and its brilliant on the ps5 but the only gripe I have is that it does not support my steering wheel which is just criminal because this game would be f**King incredible fun with it..truly bogus.
I think it's a good month. I own Suicide Squad and while I understand why people have issues with it, I still enjoyed it. I nearly bought The Stanley Parable a couple of weeks ago, so happy to try that out.
Tried the demo of Suicide Squad, that was more than enough. Not worth my time. NFS is fun and I’ll check Stanley out so decent month!
People here and on other social media expecting WAYYYY too much from the bottom tier for PS Plus, this is completely fine, nothing special, nothing terrible.
Two great games, and 1 average one.
You cannot be serious......
@guestwork Stop being such an immature child, calling video games you don’t like “aids” in 2025 my god get a life my man 😭
It’s the bottom tier of PS online, you’re not gonna be getting Stellar Blade, Astro Bot or Elden Ring level drops for most of the year if not ever.
That’s what PS Premium is for.
@guestwork What the hell are you even talking about??? Stop waiting on freebies. If you really want a current game. Just buy it.
sees Suicide Squad for free
HAHAHAHAHHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
That said, The Stanley Parable is such an excellent experience. Everyone should play it.
I bought Suicide Squad on disc a few weeks ago. I couldn't get into it whatsoever & resold it. Got my most of my money back 🙄. Need for speed, not really into cars or car racing. So for me it will be Stanley Parable. What a awful lineup!!
I have SS on pc and had a good time, Stanley is one of the ones I've been meaning to but for a while now so this is great.
I wish I hadn’t bought that NFS a while back. It should be the new one, Unbound though. Suicide Squad should have been a 4th, not a normal one. Thanks for dying game no one wanted.
Sanely Parable seems cool.
Honestly, this month feels like someone lowered the budget for 2025.
@Jaz007 I liked Suicide Squad and a lot of people here are happy to see it show up on Plus, so clearly some people wanted it.
@DonJorginho he has a point. Suicide Squad is a live service shooter done badly, repetitive, grindy and boring. It's a 200 million pound flop from WB who'd rather make this than the critically acclaimed and popular Batman games trying to chase whales. Live service can be good but games like this, Anthem, Concord ect are not really made for us to enjoy, but for us to get hooked on. Now, if he were talking about FIFA being AIDS, I'd agree 😁
Nothing for me, but I still haven’t played Dead Space Remake or Ghostwire Tokyo, so I’m not fussed about it.
I wanted to experience the story mode of SS (regarding of quality) but didn't want to spend money on it, now I'll get to play it free and offline so I don't have to engage in it's live service.
@riceNpea there’s never a point to crying and insulting games you don’t like when they’re literally a free bonus for a paid tier of Online.
If he was criticising paying for online I’d understand, but then to bring PC warring talk into it, just shown me his immaturity, simple as really.
Nothing here for me
Tried the SS trial but wasn't interested enough to buy it so I'll give it another go. Hot Pursuit is great on Switch so I'll have another go on PS, and Stanley Parable is well regarded so a decent month for me.
Just awful! Guessing it can only get better after these crap offerings LOL
Should just give us concord as a plus game instead of SS.
@DonJorginho some people are like that, I'm not holding his ineloquence against him because there's a kernel of truth to what he says. For all we know he's a kid so being immature is expected. Best off being stoic about it all.
@Ken_Kaniff my eyes literally widened when I saw you post something positive lol. Happy New Year, brother! ✌🏾
Subsided squad (yes I spelt it like that) was £5 on Steam 2 weeks ago it's that crap and it's got no content coming for it now what a waste of a slot
@Jswift56 yeah. They must’ve been so embarrassed about the failure that they just pulled the whole thing. Should’ve gone Plus or FTP.
I played NFS Hot Pursuit years ago and really enjoyed it. Don’t know too much about the other two. Off to look at some reviews.
@Jswift56 give us dogsh*t instead of bullsh*t?
Edit: interesting. Dogsh*t gets past the censor but not bullsh*t. Had to add my own asterisks 😁😁😁😁😄
@colonelkilgore I might just try Suicide Squad since you’ve been enjoying it lately.
Stanley Parable is great. I own it already but for anyone who hasn’t tried it, it’s quite unique
Nice, will finally play The Stanley Parable 🥳
I will play Suicide Squad now, simply because I am a DC comic guy. I refused to pay for it. Still want a proper DC centered follow up to Arkham Knight. Those games are so, so good! Happy New Year all!
Need for Speed will do me. Been itching for some arcade driving chaos.
Yeah NFS and The Stanley Parable will do me, cheers
@Th3solution yeah it definitely isn’t the abhorration many would have you believe. Having said that, I have hit the end game wall a bit now… but need to finish off some stuff for the platinum 😅
I feel like that’s a pretty good “something for everyone” kinda month. I’m in to check out the updated content in Stanley Parable.
Sweet! I'll finally give SQ a try.
They paid for sushi 🍣 squad y
@Jaz007 nfs unbound is quite good but hot pursuit remastered is so much better especially right at the end of the game where you have to race that entire lap of the island with all the cozzers after you..that's an intense race I can testify and it's even better online. If unbound had the option to turn off the cell shaded effects and had half decent music to choose from it would be a tough decision but unfortunately the whole "down with the cool kids" and trying to be super edgy vibe came across as forced, woke nonsense. Yeah hot pursuit remastered is a masterclass in edge of your seat fun.
@Shepherd_Tallon you'll love it and then wonder how 80 hours of your life passed you by faster than a lime green gallardo...
Been meaning to give Suicide Squad a try so I'm happy with that being included, looks much better than the other two games included 😅.
I really need to stop buying games when they’re on sale.
Suicide squad finally reaches it's full potential as free to play garbage (Disclaimer: f2p isn't automatically bad as hoyoverse and Warframe have proven, but going from the Arkham trilogy to this is an obvious downgrade)
Good month. I have been playing Suicide Squad on Xbox and in my controversial opinion it is better than Balatro. Put me on death row now for crimes against good taste if you like but we all have our preferences.
Another month of garbage.
@Northern_munkey Excellent. Good to hear. The next time I'm between games, that's what I'll do.
People always saying something horrible but haven't even played Suicide Squad game yet give it try first then comeback with ur opinion
Welp all those people who paid for suicide squad on sale got baited.
Suicide Squad seems like a good choice, many will enjoy it much more than the discourse suggests. And Stanley Parable is a modern classic. Can’t recall if NFS: Hot pursuit was a good one in the series but it seems like a strong month
@AhmadSumadi Come on man. I say positive stuff all the time. You must be missing those, lol. Not trying to be negative, but Sony is just a shell of its former self and it's an adjustment.
I don't care about how bad suicide game is if your fan of dc worth a try
Need for speed hot pursuit remastered it is.word up son
Inevitable that suicide squad would turn up here or on extra at some point, best get it out of the way I suppose. I'll probably play it but can't feel anything more than underwhelmed by it given it's best known for being a disaster. Nfs, meh, sure I'll take it. Stanley parable, heard nothing but good things.
No headline grabbers I'll be rushing to download but all 3 I'll likely try. Just feel a bit like it's 3 ps+ extra filler titles rather than essential big hitters. Solid if unspectacular month.
Not so much a NFS fan but I'll take it, they're alright. The other two for me are add to library but never install
NFS is a fun oldie. Not too interested in the other two.
Damn, I had Suicide Squad coming to PS Plus by November. So close!
Lame. I own the other 2 and I'm never playing Sqaud
So we get crap, average indie, and old but decent... Meh.
I’ve already got Cyberpunk, Zelda, Ace Attorney, Silent Hill and Dragon Quest 3 fattening my backlog.
Perfect timing for a new racer for me
It's not terrible. NFS is always a welcome break and The Stanley Parable has been on my list, but have held of buying it because of the dreaded backlog. I may take a peek at SS, but wouldn't put money on it.
@Gaia093 “Dead Service 47 and Car Thing 12” made me snort my breakfast out my nose 😹😹😹😹😹
I’m perfectly fine that January gives us The Stanley Parable as the only PS Plus Extra game 😼
No Stanley Parable in Japan. Does anyone know what we get instead? It’s not on the PlayStation blog yet
Yeah these are not for me. Oh well, i still have a lot of backlog to play 😃
What a mixed bag... really interested in playing Stanley Parable (not sure why it's passed me by so far), but I have to say I grimmaced when I saw SS... not because I hate the game, but this is the perfect example of what not to do with a subscription service. This should have released on PS+ 6 months ago, where it might have actually made a dent on the game's outlook... now it's a dead game (ie no future development) so that any bump in engagement will have limited to no impact. Also, not a good look when RockSteady had just sent out all the blurb about them closing the book on the game whilst quietly adding the single player mode as a last gesture - and I had assumed that was telegraphing that dedicated servers were not long for the world.
TBH I was eyeing SS on physical during the recent sales - because it was AUD15 (~USD9). Then I remembered that I already had it on PC for free from Epic or Amazon Gaming.... and hadn't played it.
I'd love the PS2 Hot Pursuit 2. That's my favorite in the series.
So sony are giving us a game that is universally considered as *****.
I wonder how much WB paid them?
Just dirty to put a game onto plus immediately after a huge sale
Stanley Parable and Hot Pursuit are games I've been wanting to play for a while now. I know Suicide Squad is definitely not the best choice here, but I will say that I am at least interested in it since parts of it in the trailers looked kinda fun to me, so I would say this is a good way to start the month
they already gave suicide squad away for free on the epic games store long before ps plus. idk why console got it so late. i guess because epic is niche and a crap launcher , hopefully they make it free on steam next
As Chico would say, "looking good."
What the actual heck?!?! Suicide Squad?!?!? SERIOUSLY????? 🤦🏽🙄🤷🏽 C’mon Sony, that’s weak as hell!!! Not a good way to start the year. BOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
@Olmaz And it's still too expensive for me to play. Time is money.
Coming up next month: Skull and Bones, Funko Fusion, and Concord.
I might actually give SS a go now it's free but I'm not expecting much, as for the other games they're not my thing. Wondering what games we'll get for extra and premium this month. Wasssuupp.
Bought hot pursuit when it first came out, and still a brilliant game in remaster form.
Stanley parable already played, and enjoyed the "dull" humour so much I've double dipped on switch.
As I own those two, and recommend as a racing game and walking sim respectively; the one I'm most bothered about is SS... Which in the run to release and reviews, I've held off buying, and wanted to play.
So I'm happy with just the one game, which I will play soon enough now, along with my new year sale games - despite the reviews, I'm looking forward to it for "free".
Nothing for me this time around, but I have enough in my backlog.
The last racing games I'd enjoyed had been the likes of the long absent Motorstorm series,or LBP Karting,or before that the NFS Underground PS2 games.
Suicide Squad just doesn't interest me,tacked on offlibe mode or not. The best of DC were the Batman games.
Just leaves Stanley Parable & a soon to expire PS Plus essential...but the lack of any discounts like during the recent Black Friday or Boxing day sales like one used to get buying PS Plus codes in Bricks & mortar retailers has killed the incentive to renew ahead of expiry.
Yep,I know they did offer the incentive for those upgrading tiers but sad state of affairs you have to wait for your current sub to lapse to hope you'll get a discount to resub later. Leaves stuff like Days Gone or Concrete Genie locked with no buyable alternative on PSN even if it goes on sale!
Stanley Parable is f***ing excellent, legendary game!!!
Hot Pursuit is my personal fave NFS.
Suicide Squad can go jump.
However I've got the above 2 and my plus premium expires in 2 weeks, so will be lapsing to go back to normal probably in the days of play sale this summer.
Great selection, honestly.
HP is great, Stanley Parable was amazing on PC, and SS... it is now at the price value.
Funny how I just watched a video wich featured Suicide Squad on the top 10 worst games of 2024 and now we're getting it on PS plus.
I'm kinda curious about the Stanley Parable tho.
Knowing only one anatomical destination to redirect fandom rants to, I could have well given Suicide Squad a roll if not for the apparent Gen 9 exclusivity. The other two are on Switch and I even have HP10 long beaten there, although it's still neat to see more Need for Speed in the IGC lineup overall (too bad that Unbound inclusion would be of no use to me either😅). Still a worthwhile selection for a PS5 owner whose backlogs aren't steered by complete strangers' tastes.
NFS hot pursuit remaster is good, stanley parable is good but very old (already played it on pc way back then), and I don't even want to claim suicide squad, keep that out of my ps5 library, lol.
another month wasted with crap games. I already played nfs on gamepass years ago.
Hardly worth it. These games are old or failed at launch.. Just another month of $5 bargain bin giveaways. Not worth the $100 annual price tag.
YES!!!! Been wanting to play the Stanley parable for ages! Not bothered about the other two but this makes me happy.
For once, no major issue with the games here except, SS has already been abandoned by developers with no more content or updates etc to come. Seems unfair to include a game that has essentially already died.
Ps Plus ended 2024 with trash games and now starting off the 2025 new year with trash games.
It's evident their not listing to us fateful customers of what we want.
