Resident Evil 4 PS5 PS4

Capcom has confirmed its phenomenal PS5, PS4 remake of Resident Evil 4 has now sold more than nine million copies, meaning an additional one million units have been bought since its last report less than three months ago. According to Resident Evil author Alex Aniel, this makes the latest Capcom remake "by far" the fastest-selling Resident Evil title ever.

In two posts to Twitter, the Itchy Tasty: An Unofficial History of Resident Evil scribe revealed how Resident Evil 4's eighth quarter sales are more than double any other game in the series, with the closest being Resident Evil Village at 500,000. It's sold 7.9 million copies so far, and Resident Evil 4 has already beaten that in a shorter amount of time.

More remakes of Resident Evil games are already announced to be in development, with the likes of Code Veronica and Resident Evil Zero being potential options for Capcom. However, based on development history, a brand new game and sequel to Resident Evil Village should be what the Japanese developer has in store next.

To mark the sales milestone, Capcom released a new piece of Resident Evil 4 artwork:

In our Resident Evil 4 PS5 review, we awarded a rare 10/10 rating, concluding: "Capcom has faithfully remade a genuine classic by bringing it into the modern age and kitting it out with new content, tremendous combat, and striking visuals. What was there before was already enough to consider Resident Evil 4 one of the best games of all time, but now it earns that title in 2023 off the back of better environments and sublime action." Since release, the Ada Wong-focused expansion Separate Ways provided reason to go back in what was an excellent DLC offering.
