Just before the holiday season, rumours began swirling about a possible remake of classic RPG The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Now, there's a bit of extra evidence that might back up this claim.
Over on LinkedIn, a member of the Shanghai team at development company Virtuos has listed an "unannounced [Unreal Engine 5] PS5/XSX/PC remake" among their experience.
The reason this is being equated to the Oblivion rumour is that it was alleged that the remake would indeed be making use of Unreal Engine 5.
The initial "leak" apparently came from a former Virtuos employee.
It does appear to all line up, and word on the street is that an Xbox presentation of some kind is happening in January, which would be a perfect opportunity for Bethesda to announce a remake.
So, we might be learning more quite soon. What do you think? Are we really getting a remake of Oblivion on PS5? Discuss in the comments section below.

The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion Remake - Now with 100% more bugs!
@HotGoomba lol I remember the original oblivion, one of those gates glitched up on me 40 hours in and I had to restart the whole game.
By The Nine it looks like IT'S ACTUALLY HAPPENING!!!😭😭😭😭😭😭
Well since there’s currently no new platforms to port Skyrim to they may as well go backwards - then they’ve got even more to port to PS6 etc 🤷♂️😂
I enjoyed playing the gamr, back in my Xbox360 times, if I remember correctly. Good for everyone that did not play it yet, I will not return to Oblivion.
It would be nice if they ported Skyrim to psvr2.
I would actually buy it again, for the fourth time (all on PlayStation consoles).
Of course if Oblivion supports psvr2 then I would buy that, probably not otherwise tbh.
One of my all-time favorites, but a remake scares me. The game is a moment in time, and I don't know if its unique look and feel will translate to a modern presentation. I would want a re-release with trophy & mod support.
Played this on PC about 3 years ago - it was painful on ps3 - and enjoyed my time but it really showed its age. More than happy to revisit if this is, indeed, true.
I tried this game not once, not twice, but three times back in the day on PS3 and ran into a game breaking bug every time so I have no nostalgia for this one.
Weirdly enough I actually ran into less bugs on Skyrim although I played that one in PC.
Oblivion's open world nature, UE5, and PS5 - sounds like a technical disaster waiting to happen.
My best friend absolutely loved this game back in the day on the 360. For some reason, I could never get into it. However, I think I would enjoy it now since I’m a huge fan of Skyrim, Fallout, and other Bethesda titles. Plus, I was also addicted to Halo 2 multiplayer at the time and essentially refused to play any other game, so that may have been my issue, ha.
Fantastic, ground breaking game back in its day. But unfortunately it's aged like a bad curry. It plays well on PC with lots of mods - that's the only worthwhile way to play it now I fear
I still watch the epic intro on YouTube now and again. Patrick Stewart 👌
The last great Elder Scrolls RPG before it became too dumbed down.
Although it is dumbed down from Morrowind too.
Can't wait for this if it's true! For me, no game has matched walking out of those sewers for the first time.
A remake of Oblivion on the PS5? Did it ever even come out on the Playstation? Lol. I just remember it coming out for the Xbox.
@Romans12 PS3. It was my very first proper open world RPG I’d played and it blew me away at the time. I also remember it actually ran better on PS3 too! One of very few multi plat games that did run better on PS3 than 360
Never touched this one, looked “too PC graphics” for me. If they completely rebuilt it from the ground up and modernized it I think the world would be worth getting into.
I’m not paying $5 for any horse armor though. 🤑
@Mikey856 Same here, first big open world RPG (and one of the first-ish games I grabbed on PS3) and it did suprisingly run better on PS3 too (I believe it was Patched on Xbox 360 to be more in line with the PS3 I think? Either way it's way better now on XsX through BackCompat with 4k/60fps/HDR and all that)
I LOVE Oblivion and I really hope this comes to be. I'm actually somewhat surprised at what people are saying here though. I don't go back to it that often anymore but I did play a bit on my XsX last year and I still enjoy it (of course it is "upgraded" as I already mentioned via the BackCompat)
I still remember the Re-Release, I believe it was the "5th Anniversary Edition", a bit after Skyrim came out and it had a section in the little "Slip" (instead of that GLORIOUS 60 Page or so Manual the OG/GOTY Versions had) that talked about Trophies and how they work... but it was literally just the GOTY Version reprinted, none of the extra Add-Ons that were/are still exclusive to X360/PC and of course NO BLOODY TROPHIES 😒 (I later played and got all 1250Gs/1250Gs on X360 during that generation though)
I'll take it day one bugs and all, I just hope they include the DLC, I loved Shivering Isles. I discovered Oblivion GOTY and Fallout3 both on the same day, such great memories. Even the guy at the checkout said I'd have a blast, he was right. I returned a week later for Fallout3 GOTY, it's hard to make memories like that anymore. I believe it was GAME, when they actually had games.
A toe in the water, I hope. Just toss that creation Engine, please.
I'd get this if it comes to PS5. It was my first Elder Scrolls game. I played Morrowind about a year later.
Another chance for Bethesda to sell Horse Armour DLC.
Shame Morrowind and all its DLCs are not being done. Oblivion was okay, just got tired of the gates and Daedric, it was very rinse and repeat. Oh look another Oblivion gate has opened in which I have to go in and fight more Daedra. Although I vaguely remember the Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood missions being the standout.
