PlayStation Productions is clearly incredibly busy right now, especially after the company made several new announcements for game adaptations during CES 2025. One we already knew about was an Until Dawn movie, but new details reveal that it won't be a direct retelling of the game itself.
The only link between the game and the film will be Peter Stormare, who will reprise his role as Dr. Hill. Stormare appeared at CES to tease the horror flick, which he says is in the Until Dawn universe but will feature a brand new plot and ensemble of characters.
Indeed, the film has a completely fresh cast, including Ella Rubin, Maia Mitchell, Michael Cimino, Ji-young Yoo, and Odessa A'zion. It's being directed by David F. Sandberg, known for Shazam!, Lights Out, and Annabelle: Creation.
With the film currently set to debut in April, we'll likely start to see trailers and other promotional material in the coming weeks. Now we know it isn't just a retread, we're intrigued to find out what this film will be like.

so it's just a slasher film then which other than the name it has no real reason to exist.
A new story and new characters makes it Until Dawn in name only. Simply a cash grab, and probably not going to be a very successful one as I wouldn't have thought the game is widely known outside of PS fans.
@BeerMonster this isn't a super recognizable IP. It's hardly just a cash grab.
I mean considering the game is basically just an interactive movie anyway this is probably for the best because it if it was a straight adaptation of the game well again the game itself is basically already a movie why bother?
@captainsandman Yes, that's exactly what I said.
Well at least if it’s still in the same universe it’s not too bad. Like other series that have comics or novels sent in the same franchises. I’m not familiar with Until Dawn, but at least there’s some connection between the movie and game.
I feel like this movie should have been a prequel to the game.
I like Sony's attempt at turning PS frachises into multi-media IPs. Hope its fun, I love teen slasher genre.
Good game but the story had its weakness after the initial setup so hopefully only positive changes.
Then what’s the point of naming it Until Dawn? Like a commenter said, a cash grab.
@Scottyy Now if only they could revive that animated Sly movie they announced a decade ago 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
@Keyblade-Dan
I'm sure they are considering it. Keep waiting for that and remember the news a couple days ago about Sony considering reviving old IPs. Budget Sly Cooper title and the animated movie together, looks like their strategy goes like this for IPs now.
Top pun in the header. We should have a header of the year awards and nominate this.
I'd probably watch it if I accidentally came across it and that's about the extent of my interest in this and every other big screen announcement they've made.
@Scottyy Fingers crossed ^__^. Not sure about others but I actually really liked that teaser from way back Murray looked a bit off and I didn't like that I could see Bentley's eyes (Like Professor Farnsworth his glasses should be permanently opaque 😅) but I did love the art style they went for and I liked the Banter in the trailer ^__^
"They wendigo in a different direction"....fine, I'll allow it.
Im not sure how to feel about this, the whole thing about Until Dawn was how movie like it already felt, they had a great chance to play with the meta / 4th wall with the movie version of it.
Would have been great to see the original characters played in the movie in the same locations etc but its not really gonna have the same pull to it with a bunch of a randos in a new setting tbh
Are we afraid this ‘highly regarded’ IP name will be tainted or something? Who cares if it isn't a perfect adaptation. I dont think it lends itself well for a perfect adaptation anyway, seeing as theres so many branching decisions made in the game. Let’s just hope they make a good movie.
New characters and story is a good choice. This and Heart Eyes could fill up my horror-slasher movies slots for this year.
Caption is such a dad joke. LOVE IT!
just announce the sequel already
Is it not absolutely insane to be adapting games that were already purposefully pastiches of existing movies?
@nessisonett my thoughts exactly. It is absolutely bonkers. It’s purposefully cheesy in its classic set up.
