If you can recall the announcement of Transformers: Reactivate at The Game Awards 2022, then you've got a better memory than us.
It was revealed via a vague but expensive-looking CG trailer during Geoff's show, and promised a console release in 2023. That obviously never happened, and now, the project's been officially cancelled.
The news comes via developer Splash Damage, which has posted a statement on social media. "The decision has been made to end development of Transformers: Reactivate," it writes.
The sad news is that this cancellation will likely result in layoffs at the London-based studio. The statement continues: "We will be scaling down to refocus our efforts on other projects. Unfortunately, despite every effort, a number of roles across the studio are now potentially at risk of redundancy."
It's unclear what's actually happened to Transformers: Reactivate, but it's safe to say that its development hasn't been smooth. We've seen next to nothing of the project over the last couple of years, although some early gameplay footage did leak during that time.
There's also a dark humour to the fact that Hasbro (the toy company that owns Transformers) actually launched some Transformers: Reactivate action figures in 2023. Obviously, this game was meant to be a fairly big deal.
"Hasbro was an incredible and supportive partner throughout," Splash Damage clarifies.

I genuinely don't remember this game being revealed, but it's a shame it's being cancelled.
Wish they’d remaster the old 7th gen Cybertron games.
@colonelkilgore
Those where some good games. The multiplayer sessions Ive had in that game are some of the best Ive ever had in a third person shooter.
The released figures were actually pretty decent. They gave Bumblebee a general release recently and the figure was surprisingly good. I hope they give Prime, Starscream and Soundwave individual releases so these molds get more exposure.
The game…well, after two years of no updates, I’m sadly unsurprised by this. Ever since WFC and FOC, the games have been quite bad.
@dskatter I liked the designs, this might drive me to pick them up if I see them around. But yeah, not surprising at all given the complete lack of solid updates for so long. Shame, it looked like it could have been decent.
Well at least it’s official. No news after two whole years, I was just waiting for them to finally say it was up and canceled. I would have probably played this too.
@colonelkilgore This. Honesty, if they updated the melee a bit, it’d be been better! I’d take a straight remaster though. We used to have so many good/fun Transformers games, then it just stopped. Even most of the movie games were good (or at least fun).
It always surprises me when a game misses its release window by this much, to just get up and canceled.
It had to of been decently playable if it targeted a 2023 release.
@Stragen8 There was some leaked gameplay footage last month that was supposedly from 2020. So it was definitely in some playable state, especially considering development started in 2017.
Just some more info about this game’s development. The game started as Transformers Rise made by Certain Affinity back in 2017. In 2021 the game was moved to Splash Games and renamed Reactivate. Hasbro reportedly spent $100 million on the 7 year development. What is funny is that Hasbro made 4 transformer toys based on Reactivate back in 2023 and even reissued the bumblebee figure last year by itself which is the most promotion the game ever received
Sad day for the 4 people closely monitoring this game
Oh no..... so anyway
Don't remember it, but would have been cool, unfortunate.
@Jaz007 @Blauwe_Chimay @colonelkilgore They did port/remaster Fall of Cybertron digitally on PS4, but when the license expired the game was delisted everywhere sadly.
Poor ol' Splash Damage really can't catch a break, can they?
First Brink, then Dirty Bomb and now this!
