The UK's first physical games chart of 2025 is in, and there aren't many 2024 games in the top 10.
Hogwarts Legacy, which has now charted 100 times since its release, is number one. It's followed by EA Sports FC 25 in second, but leapfrogging into third is 2022's Elden Ring.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is bumped down to fourth, which is its lowest position for several weeks, and possibly since it released.
The middle of the top 10 is populated by the usual clutch of Nintendo titles, with Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate breaking the combo in eighth, up from 13th. Remaining in ninth place is Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition.
We can presume the handful of older games flooding the top 10 is down to January sales, but even within that, it's the same favourite titles bouncing back.
Here's the latest top 10 in full (physical sales only).
UK Sales Charts: Week Ending 4th January, 2025
- Hogwarts Legacy
- EA Sports FC 25
- Elden Ring
- Call of Duty: Black Ops 6
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
- Super Mario Party Jamboree
- Nintendo Switch Sports
- Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate
- Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition
- Minecraft (Switch)

Go hogwarts..love this game for so many reasons.
Feels like Hogwarts was basically in first place all year last year. I’m really looking forward to whatever that expansion is that they make for it. It’s such a comfort food game. And honestly, the only downsides the game had were a lack of enemy variety and a sort of lackluster final act. An Erdtree type of thing could do wonders for the game.
GTAV will probably be back in the top 10 next week for the millionth time as well. It's basically the same *****, week in and week out.
@somnambulance indeed. I'd purchase an expansion in a heart beat. This game was the perfect chill out game for me. I spent so much time mooching around the mansion before I ventured out into the wild because it was so captivating. I'm not a Potter fan and I know bugger all about the lore but the game just clicked for me.
No GTA? GTA 6 2025 release confirmed
I really liked HL, and come back for a replay every so often.
It does a lot of things right, and does not bog itself down with unnecessary forced mechanics (eg no lesson time mechanics, can be up in hallways at night except in a couple of very specific instances, etc etc).
Curse mechanics are well thought out, and sensibly, but not excessively inhibited.
Combat in general is excellent and well thought out, relying on strategy rather than just reaction.
Plus it performs excellently and looks good, particularly after the new pro update (Normal performance mode, 120hz uncapped).
Only problem is it can be far too easy unless you play at max difficulty, and even then still can be too easy.
Probably my top equal favourite game this generation.
Kudos to Cyberpunk for being on the long-lifer list
@ThomasHL another game I really like. I still have not finished it or started the expansion because I have zero discipline when it comes to games 🤣
@Northern_munkey It is the quintessential 8/10 game, but yet it feels better than that. It’s just such a solid game. I would’ve been happy if the game just kept going, which is odd for me, as I typically prefer smaller, more compact games, but when an open world feels so inviting, what can I say? I might redownload the game tonight.
@somnambulance when I was playing hogwarts I was in awe at the world they had created but I came to the same conclusion I did with the first watch dogs game in that a world was created that was so rich and "alive" feeling that it overwhelmed the devs to an extent that I don't think they knew exactly how to flesh it out with content properly. There is so much potential left untapped which is why I'll agree on your 8/10 rating.
Isn't it time to write an article about physical and digital sales? I understand that physical is a talking point with many people and they love the physical discs but times have changed.
Guilty as charged for buying Hogwarts Legacy 😆
$29 for the deluxe edition on the AU PS store for the deluxe edition is a bargain, especially when I can play it on PS5 Pro & my daughter can play it on PS4 Pro via the same purchase 👌
@Northern_munkey 100% agree. The game feels so vibrant and alive. The setting is peerless in its development. It’s practically in league with a Rockstar game in some ways. Its storytelling reaches for the stars too until it doesn’t too. I felt like the goblin villain was too bland a main villain, especially when they had the elements for a better villain in the flashback scenes. Don’t want to spoil anything for anyone, but I think you know what I mean. That said though, I literally go back to the game every once in a while to just walk around and experience that world, and that’s definitely something special. I don’t do that with many games these days.
