One of the standout new game announcements from Sony's latest State of Play livestream, the newly formed Chinese developer Eclipse Glow Games has revealed Tides of Annihilation for PS5. The game uses the English capital of London as a backdrop for an action-heavy experience inspired by Devil May Cry and Stellar Blade. You play as humanity's last remaining survivor in a single player title heavily focused on narrative. Check out the reveal trailer above.
Tides of Annihilation is designed to evoke "classic action games" with a fast-paced combat system that allows for some experimentation through the use of over 10 Spectral Knights. They appear to lend you extra powers to help shape your fighting style and unlock new combos. Battles are fought against huge mobile knights, which are first described as "vertical challenges" — potentially ala Shadow of the Colossus — before you can fully take them down.
This is all set against the backdrop of a "broken modern London", where you shall get to visit some of its most famous landmarks. The trailer, for example, reveals Tower Bridge. Here's a selection of screenshots:
Lead game producer Kun Fu said it was an "incredible, humble accomplishment" to be able to announce the game as part of Sony's latest State of Play livestream. "We’ve created a world that reimagines Arthurian Legend where themes of courage, loyalty, and heroism intertwine with an epic story set in a strange-yet-familiar setting that will test the mettle of true gamers and push the genre forward."
The game is the debut project from Eclipse Glow Games, which employs 100 developers in Chengdu, Sichuan of China. It has recruited employees from the likes of SEGA, Ubisoft, and Gameloft, with past experience including Yakuza, Persona, Assassin's Creed, and Prince of Persia.

Yo this looks sick as hell.
Probably the highlight of the show for me, I'll be keeping an eye on this.

Most interesting game of the showcase
This looks like a game I want to master, but will never be skilled enough to. My highlight of the show nevertheless, wow.
This looks insane! Best game shown
Can we start calling this a Stellar Blade like? In the best possible way.
This one took my interest in terms of new game announced. Definitely keeping my eyes on this one
I'm just happy we're getting more hack and slash action games lately which is something we need in this day and age
This looks really interesting. Plus it's nice to see that Stellar Blade is not the only game out there anymore... đź©·
Looks like a stellar blade has competition and am all for it
The power looks really similar to FF16.
This looks really stylish- let’s hope it has solid gameplay
@Oram77 It looks more like Bayonetta-like to me, very fast-paced action in the air.
Those water effects... Blimey!
@Max_the_German You could go with either, in all honesty .
This looks really cool, I’m looking forward to seeing more of this, hope it comes out 2025.
This actually looked really good. Apart from the gameplay. But if the story and world are great I can overlook tedious and mediocre combat.
This was the most interesting new IP shown tonight.
Probably the best game shown tonight, just hope it's not a Souls-like.
Game stole the show for me along with Lost Soul Aside
This looks fabulous, those graphics look sublime.
Sees newly formed Chinese developer looks at the female characters and I'm not surprised as western devs would never and the game looks awesome definitely pre-ordering
One of the game that caught my eyes. It looks cool and gave me some Claymore vibe.
@PuppetMaster A person of culture I see, Claymore NEEDS an anime remake.
Definitely best thing for me at show
Dude these Chinese and Korean devs have come out swinging hard as hell. Stellar blade, lost soul aside, Crimson desert, lies of p, wukong and now this
This presentation and game saved the show for me. Glad Sony is supporting games like this
This was the game of the show for me. It looks awesome!
@Oram77 haha no this is clearly the Stellarvania genre
This game trailer hooked me so quickly, and I am rediculously excited to find out more! The action looks great, the modern/fantasy versions of London is intriguing, and I cannot wait to get to scale those colossal knight monsters!
The Mary Poppins style accents need changing, no one talks like that in England. You know who do? American actors and actresses who have to do a English accent who haven’t a clue how to do one.
Game does look promising, I’ll give it the Terry Tibbs recommendation
Honestly it was the best announcement out of today.
One of the better announcements of the show
This looked awesome! The British accents were… interesting
@Oram77 Definitely. More people needs to watch (or read) Claymore.
As long as it's not a souls-like, I'm in!
@BusyOlf - That female VA is Jennifer English who actually speaks like that though less breathy irl and is in fact, English.
Like others have said, this was one of the highlights of the show. I look forward to the gameplay video that they will be putting out tomorrow.
I will look at the upcoming extended gameplay, but I will admit it; this has me hooked. One of my two highlights in the SoP presentation (Shinobi being the other one).
This game looks sooo good... This china hero project (if its part of that) looks better and better more games we see
Not that it matter but is this game PS exclusive?
@BusyOlf Hey, German WWII soldiers (aka „Nazis“) in video games always scream in a way real soldiers probably never did. These accents are made to fulfill stereotypes!
A mix of Arthurian legend-inspired medieval fantasy and post apocalypse London, this an amazing idea.
The detailing in character design (which looked beautiful but also extremely overwrought and game-y) and immediate surroundings looked amazing. Combat, looked … okay? Traversal, less so.
We'll see – I'm certainly interested.
Btw character action game is so back. After last year Stellar Blade, Rise of the Ronin, and Wu Kong, now we will get:
Finally we got good alternatives for action games that isn't Soulslike.
First 5 seconds in, sparks familiarity of the voice actress from a gacha game I'm actively playing.
Hello Lady Carlotta~
Can't wait to play ToA 🤤
@BusyOlf You have an issue with Shadowheart? Damnnn. The voice actress actually talks like that in real life and is from England. Do a little research mate. Saying "nobody talks like that" comes across so ignorant.
@PuppetMaster You listed everything I liked. Oh and the new title from the Returnal devs too!
@Oram77 @PuppetMaster Hello there friends.
So, not just good taste in games, but also anime and manga.
You two are alright in my book.
Haven´t heard the name Claymore in ages. Pretty good story and characters. Ended in a cliffhanger, or am I mistaken?
Anyway, this was a very pleasant surprise. Will keep my eye on this one.
And yes, Hack and Slash action games are back with a vengeance and I´m all here for it.
And let´s not forget Saros just like our friend @GilgaMax309 mentioned. Keep them coming, that´s what I say.
Cheers everyone
LOL! “English voice actress doesn’t sound English enough”. Just can’t make this stuff up.
Reminds me a little of gow3 and previous, with pulled back camera, i like it.
@Shigurui it’s very rare, as someone from the north of England, to hear someone speak poshly like that. Certainly when it comes to American shows which I’m guessing is because they can’t understand accents outside of their country
@BusyOlf - I grew up in NW England and heard plenty of people speak like that, especially at secondary school. It was originally an all girls grammar school that became a mixed comprehensive one year before I went there.
When I started years 1-2 were mixed and 3-5 were all girls and a vast amount of them sounded like that as they were taught to speak Queens English. Which is being spoken by that VA.
Admittedly this was 40 years ago and things have changed a lot since then but some people did and still do sound like that. Even in Northern England.
