Now officially confirmed for 28th August 2025, Konami has also revealed the Ape Escape mode it has bundled with PS5 versions of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. It's a mode exclusive to PS5 and PC, returning from the original PS2 version, but seemingly due to the ties it has with Sony, the Xbox Series X|S edition is replacing it with something else. Spotted by Wario64, the Xbox version of the State of Play trailer instead teases a Bomberman mode.
The phrase "Snake vs ???" is plastered over the silhouette of Bomberman, which would be an entirely new mode not seen in the game before. Presumably, it'll simply swap the Ape Escape character models out for Bombermen, but we'll have to await further details from Konami. The PC version of the trailer teases the Snake vs Monkey mode, so it seems PS5 and PC will share the content.
In the original version of Snake vs Monkey, you have to stun/tranquillize the faces of Ape Escape and then capture them across multiple stages. Konami says more details concerning the mode on PS5 will be shared in the future. It'll be interesting to see whether there are any meaningful differences between the PS5/PC and Xbox modes besides a character model swap.

I understand why Ape Escape is exclusive to PS5/PC, but could they not have Bomberman on all platforms?
By ye Gods Sony couldn't you just let Xbox have Ape Escape and not be so pedantic? You're not exactly doing anything with most of your dormant back catalogue and I doubt the PC audience is clamouring for some cheeky monkey business.
@Brundleflies21 Also true.
This is like the old days where each console receive their own multiplat version lol. Soul Calibur 2 comes to my mind with PS2 got Heihachi, Xbox got Spawn, and GC got Link.
@get2sammyb It would be odd if it really was Xbox only, when Xbox doesn't care about exclusivity. Not even just talking about PS and Switch, but PC too.
So it means PC owns all, fantastic, thx ms&sony, now pc play boys can laugh at console players very loud. If u have no money to exclusive, just don't.
Honestly, this is so petty. We can't let Xbox even have an Ape Escape mode in a Metal Gear game that nobody on Xbox will probably buy anyway? Come on.
Doubly annoying because I'd much rather have Bomberman than Ape Escape.
Now that Xbox is the biggest publisher and is going multi-platform, exclusivity just feels like a slap in the face for Xbox players. I just feel bad... Makes Sony look bad too.
lol sony are so petty
Sony...come on man... that's just petty. Games are one thing but it's a small side mode. Did you really need to do that?
Edit: Also kudos to Konami for not making Xbox players feel left out.
Sony will never change even if Xbox is going multi platform early
@Lukeded nope, Steam version has no confirmation of the Bomberman side missions, only the Xbox console version and the PC Game Pass/Windows Store version have the Bomberman levels.
Yea this is pretty sad from Playstation, but kudos for Konami giving Xbox something of equal value.
Playstation really don’t care about burning their bridge with Xbox completely; even though Xbox is giving them so much. Sounds like it could be smart to share TINY things like this just to keep that bridge?
This is good, Konami offering Xbox players something of value meaning Sony moneyhatting an OPTIONAL MINIGAME/MODE is a fruitless task.
But in reality there should be no exclusive modes to platforms in 2025, it’s so insanely stupid.
@DarkTron ok thx, but I mean if sony can't even exclusive to a little side mission, that's pretty a big fail to playstation.
After the state of play I imediately canceled my preorder... no way I will pay full price for this last gen game
@K1LLEGAL The bridge for Xbox is actually making money on their games.
If Xbox version had Snake Vs The Flood/The Covenant from Halo, that would be amazing.
It's incredibly funny that Microsoft is mass-porting their catalogue to PS5, but Sony won't even allow a cameo of a long-dead PS franchise to appear in the Xbox version of a game.
Although tbh Sony should've been even more protectionist. If it actually kept its exclusive games, I'd already own a PS5, and probably have a PS+ sub of some sort.
People have no issues whatsoever with ninty not even letting its characters be in fortnite and Sony has already made clear multiple times they don't see pc as a competitor so there is literally nothing wrong with keeping an exclusive ip easter egg exclusive when it was originally exclusive anyway
What would suck tho is bomber man not being in the ps5 version when that's a 3rd party ip. But somethings got to give I guess
Everyone assuming Sony said no and not even considering that Konami may not have even asked about adding it to the Xbox version
Ground Zeroes also had separate bonus content for each platform and I don’t think Sony had any control over MGS1 to insist that was the case
Really weird decision, why not just have the Ape Escape mode on Xbox. Thought we were past this kind of stuff but I guess not.
So does PC get to chose between them?
Does this mean we can finally get Ape Escape released digitally on the PSN store to complete the trilogy?
Hmm...Even without a formal confirmation of such a version, I'm thinking there's already active betting as to just what a hypothetical Switch 2 version of the game would get in regards to this mini game (be it the apes, Bomberman, or even something Switch 2-exclusive; surely there's some odds in favor of the apes, even if they're longshot, given the "stranger things have happened" route the Switch has taken)...
