Monster Hunter Wilds is going to be monstrous on PS5 this month, but even once you’ve worked through the presumably massive amounts of day one content, there’s more to look forward to.
As part of yesterday’s State of Play, publisher Capcom confirmed the game’s first free post-release updates.
“In the week after launch, Event Quests will be available,” Capcom’s Joseph Bustos confirmed on the PS Blog. “Take on these special quests to earn in-game armour with special looks.
“The first Free Title Update will arrive in Spring 2025, bringing the majestic monster Mizutsune to Monster Hunter Wilds. Stay tuned to see how this monster uses dance-like attacks and bubbles to attack with a balance of beauty and brutality.”

In other news, Capcom confirmed that PS5 Pro players will be able to take advantage of ray-tracing courtesy of a day one patch.
So there’s lots to look forward to with Monster Hunters Wilds, then, both at launch on 28th February – and beyond!

I've managed to play the beta with a few people and man, coming from a solo rise player I have to say I'm excited to finally have a group to play with. It now feels like I was missing the other half of what makes Monster Hunter so good. Really awesome and friendly community. PvE is always the way to go online. You meet the cesspools of humanity the moment things get competitive.
So the same thing they do with the previous games. Can also guarantee there's a paid expansion announced in 12 months time.
Whenever something like this gets announced, I immediately just put my purchase of the game back until it’s finished. End up saving money that way too.
Do people really find the drip feeding of new content an attractive reason to get the game at launch?
Looking real good. Hope it delivers!
I respect them for giving us free content after launch and not making people shell out extra for a 'Gold' or 'Ultimate' edition for content that's not even been made yet. This game will have me hooked for a long time!
@thefourfoldroot1 You're getting an entire game out of it and more monsters to hunt after launch and you're really still complaining? Can't please people apparently.
All these games with 'roadmaps' can suck my plums. Just release it properly!
@thefourfoldroot1 with something like monster hunter, people know how many hours they are getting from it. It’s not a 30hr and done. Otherwise you can end up ‘behind’ others in rank.
If it is a one play through and done, I agree better to wait until full game.
@Nepp67
Alternatively, I’m getting less game than I would if I waited, because I’d likely finish or lose interest in a game long before the last planned update is released many months later. In which case better to wait for me.
I always find it laughable and sad when you specify an update is free.
@ATaco i played world first time solo. Then i got struggled with behemoth. Decided firing a sos and now i meet tons of amazing person. We even created a group dedicated for monster hunter world/iceborne/rise/sunbreak. Well few of them are MIA but many still active and we frequently chatting and so excited for WILDS.
This is why i love this game so much. Monster hunter unite me with an amazing people all around the world. Now my teammates are ready for new journey on wilds. So hyped
@thefourfoldroot1 I get the game at launch because it's a finished game.. Wild(s) take, I know.
@thefourfoldroot1 That's certainly your decision which is fine. Unless it was a barebones game it just seems like complaining to complain over free content.
@Nepp67
I’m fine with free content. I’ll just play it all when it’s all available because I don’t come back to games months (or sometimes years) later to play some minor content. By that time I’ve played a dozen other games and likely don’t even remember the story or how to play some old game. In fact, I probably won’t even have the game anymore if it’s more than a few months after purchase. Which, of course, is what this is usually all about. Maintaining long term engagement for Microtransactions and destroying the second hand market for a game
I think Monster Hunter is what all "live service" game should be. It's a solo game, but when you want, people can join you and then leave without breaking your immersion. Elden Ring is also doing that at a smaller scale.
