Capcom has revealed updated PC requirements for Monster Hunter Wilds, ahead of its release later in the month — and they may just point towards good news for PS5 players.
Basically, the developer's managed to make some pretty significant optimisations to the imminent action RPG, reducing the technical heft that's needed in order to run the game well.
You may recall that the original specifications raised plenty of eyebrows last year, suggesting that PC players would need beefy hardware for decent performance. And, given the state that Dragon's Dogma 2 had launched in, people immediately began to question Capcom's priorities.
But these new specs are more agreeable across the board, and a freshly released PC benchmark test is throwing up positive results for many users.
Again, the upside for us console players is that these improvements should translate to PS5 — at least to some extent.
Last year's open beta was plagued by dodgy frame rates, graphical issues, and incredibly blurry resolutions, which lead to concerns over the full game, and whether Capcom was gearing up to ship another title stuffed with performance problems.
At this point, it's worth mentioning that the current Monster Hunter Wilds beta is that same old build — so don't go into it expecting any noticeable performance improvements.
Hopefully, then, when Wilds launches on the 28th February, we'll be treated to a much smoother experience. Capcom's clearly doing good work behind the scenes.
What are your expectations for Monster Hunter Wilds? Are you hoping for a silky smooth 60fps, or is that still too much to ask? Watch that frame rate counter in the comments section below.

I can't wait to play this at sub-720p at 20fps on PS5 Pro.
And yes Push Square commenters. This is a joke.
@HotGoomba Nope.
Resolution Mode: 3840 x 2160 (3072 x 1728) 30FPS w/ RT
FPS Mode: 3840 x 2160 (1920 x 1080) 60FPS no RT
Balanced: 3840 x 2160 (2496 x 1404) 40FPS w/ RT
I'm sure there will be dips, but you're grossly exaggerating.
Good luck getting a smooth 60fps, my PC with a 5800X3D and 4080 Super drops below 60fps at times throughout the benchmark at 1440p. It seems to be a CPU limitation and the PS5 CPU is far less capable.
If you look at their requirements, they're talking about a Ryzen 5 3600 at 60fps with frame generation
And yet - even after creating a stand alone piece on this - no updated specs are shown???
Doesn't make sense?
@Shwing r5 3600 and 2060 Super for 1080p 60fps with frame generation
Thanks carlos82!
@RyuChamploo He's just being sarcastic. Goomba is like that a lot.
Easy really, its 'silky smooth 60fps' or I wont buy it (Pro).
Not acheiving this is just poor ability / lazy, or horrifically bad planning as to what your dev teams can achieve! Never put ambition over ability!
It's so weird how they can add 2 new monsters to the beta but they can't give us a quick preview of how updated the performance is on consoles. But considering I didn't have much problems at all with the 1st beta. Im not too worried
And once I get my pc I'm glad, going by the specs, I'll likely be able to run it with few issues too
I haven't run the benchmark test but my PC is way above the specs, and I played the first beta on my old PC, I built a new one and am curious to see how it'll fare.
I have a 3060 i7 and a PS5 so have to figure out where to play it.
Capcom already posted the target framerate and resolution for Wilds on PS5 over a month ago and 60fps is confirmed for performance mode. No need to speculate
If they can manage close to 4k at 40fps I will be very happy.
Capcom made BIG improvements, but they're still underselling the GPU's you actually need if you actually want to play at 60fps. My best guess is that it requires more than 8GB VRAM & they don't want to be explicit about it since x060 series cards are by far the most popular.
I hope they backport these engine improvements to Dragon's Dogma 2.
EDIT: I bet if you use the Ultra cards for the High settings at native 60fps is VERY achievable, then 4080/7900 & up run Ultra at 60fps just fine.
For me monhun was and always will be a portable franchise, so I'll be playing on steam deck (streaming from PS5 of course).
It still requires quite the beefy specs compared to consoles. I wanted to play the game on PS5, it's where I do most of my gaming, but I guess I'll have to go to PC for this one.
I'd be somewhat surprised if Capcom were not working on getting this running on the new Switch 2, which will require a lot of optimisations which may also be filtering through for the platforms that don't require thme as much.
Every game is never optimized they all want us to use Fram Gen or upscaling
@RyuChamploo I'm kidding
@carlos82
Something must be wrong. Are you using DLSS?
I also got a 5800x3d + 4080 super. I use DLSS4 in the benchmark and with DLSS performance I get 75fps on average at 4K. It only drops below 60fps on scene changes, but not when the scene is loaded already.
@tatsumi DLSS is irrelevant as its a CPU limit. Don't get me wrong, I average above 60fps but I do see dips below 60 when using presentmon, which shows CPU times close to 20ms at the start of the village section after riding the mount, elsewhere there's some brief spikes
They're not something I'd likely notice without the overlay on but my point is more about my CPU vs what's in the consoles, as they're likely to be hit much harder at those points
Ran the benchmark on my PC (7900X & 4080 Super) and got 112FPS. This is with DLSS and Multi-frame generation enabled. Was getting 80 FPS average without frame generation enabled.
Played the 1st Beta on PS5 on quality mode and didn’t have any performance issues. Hopefully it stays that way and works well in performance mode. Ditto PSSR on the Pro!
