Formerly known as System Shock 2: Enhanced Edition, the remaster of the hugely influential immersive sim has been formally rebranded by its current masters at Nightdive Studios. Henceforth, the re-release of the game visionary Ken Levine designed before its spiritual successor, BioShock, will be known as System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster.
We don't know how necessary such a move was, but in any case, the game could be upon us sooner than previously anticipated. Nightdive teased that an official release date would be revealed at GDC 2025 during the Future Game Show Spring Showcase livestream.
The original System Shock 2 was a massive step forward for the industry regarding atmosphere and storytelling, so it is well worth checking out if you're interested in such things. Far more playable than the first game in the series, which itself was remade recently by Nightdive, we look forward to being dehumanized by SHODAN all over again.

***** yes. These are the remasters we need. I pray for Thief, Deus Ex, Vampire Bloodlines to get the same treatment. Graphics, UI and controls age, but good design doesn't.
I loved the remake and I can’t wait to play this which is considered the better of the two
I’m playing the remake of SS1 at the moment, and it totally captures the atmosphere of the original (which I remember playing while watching The Day Today 30 years ago, which is insane).
I hope they keep the macarena dancing robots in the first one (it’s right at the very start of the game)
I played System Shock 2 last year (after playing the SS1 remake) for the first time and damn.. it holds up so well. I had just a few graphics mods installed, but everything else in the game - the story, exploration, atmosphere, SHODAN, that twist - was still amazing. Will defintely play the Nightdive re-release 🙌🏻
I have the 1st remaster waiting to be played at home, looking forward to buying and waiting for the right time to play this too 😅
I was addicted to the original game when it released in the mid 90's, and the sequel a few years later.
I have high hopes for a quality remaster!
I was gutted when they announced SS3 was scrapped and when tencent took over.
Remake of the first game was excellent and Nightdive are GOAT's so this is a day 1 buy.

The first remake was masterfully done, I am very much looking forward to this.
Day one buy for me. Love nightdives work on the original system shock and I’ve never gotten to play the second.

One of the finest games ever. One of the few old games I still play from time to time with the og Half Life. Imo with a better twist than Bioshock.
Prey is a worthy successor for anyone interested in playing something more up to date but SS2 definitely holds up.
