We may never understand the excitement surrounding it, but there's a reason why Sony continues to include Five Nights at Freddy's games in its PS5 livestreams: they do big numbers. The latest State of Play showcase is evidence of that, as the new PS5 trailer for Five Nights at Freddy's: Secret of the Mimic is comfortably proving more popular than anything else from the event.
At the time of writing, the latest gameplay and release date reveal trailer for the new game sits on just north of 660,000 views. That is almost double its closest competition, the clip announcing the Stellar Blade DLC and PC version. Behind those two are the reveals for Lies of P: Overture, Days Gone Remastered, and Tides of Annihilation.
Here's how the top 10 most viewed PS5 trailers from yesterday's State of Play lineup so far:
- Five Nights at Freddy's Secret of the Mimic — 660K
- Tides of Annihilation — 377K
- Stellar Blade x Goddess of Victory DLC — 372K
- Days Gone Remastered — 293K
- Lies of P: Overture — 293K
- Digimon Story: Time Stranger — 244K
- Saros — 229K
- Onimusha: Way of the Sword — 207K
- Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater — 205K
- Lost Soul Aside — 149K
This isn't the first time a Five Nights at Freddy's trailer has proven the most popular piece of media to come from a Sony livestream, so it serves as another reminder why PlayStation may not necessarily gear every single one of its reveals towards its hardcore audience. They may be viewed cynically as "contractual obligations", but reasons like this are why those agreements are made in the first place.

This happens every time 🤣
I’m dumbfounded, i never hear about this IP except from SoPs. And it looks very basic to me. But i guess there must be something to these games 🤷🏻♂️
Edit: Just checked their Metascores, and while one game scored an 87, most are scored in the 60s range, with one even scoring in the 30s. So it’s not like these games are critically acclaimed or anything. Even the user scores dont really stand out.
Ah well, it is what it is, i guess i’ll just have to expect one Freddy game at each SoP 😂
Sony, just blink twice if you’re ok, so we know you’re not held hostage by Freddy 😝
There are some things we just will never understand in this world. Five Nights at Freddy's is one of them. 😅
I honestly couldn't tell you anything about this IP
Ignorance is bliss
One of the all time greats, right up there with Legend of Zelda
Minecraft, Roblox, FNAF, Poppy, Banban, Teletubbies all NOT FOR GROWN UPS....except maybe Teletubbies.
@Czar_Khastik That's criminal.
The most milked franchise of all time.
@Absymbel Why gatekeep what adults can and can't like? Minecraft is as universal as any game, beloved by adults and children.
More widely this list perfectly illustrates the difference between what we - the hardcore gamers that comment here on gaming news - SAY we want and what the masses actually want. 2 DLC's, a remaster and FNAF making up 4 of the top 5.
My kids have always enjoyed this series and we've always played together. So I get excited when a new trailer drops so I can share with them and get them hyped to play together.
This has been the way for over a decade. I wouldn't be as invested if not for the kids. I imagine that is pretty common.
Nice to see Tides of Annihilation get good views, I thought it was one of the stand outs from the show.
Snake Eater is only at 205K, gaming really has changed. It makes me wonder if my favorite franchises will eventually just fizzle out and nothing new will replace them, at least nothing new that I want to play. Even at that Delta is a remake, it's more of a concern than a complaint.
I really tried to pay attention.... but I didn't even see the trailer. I haven't a clue what these games are about and who actually plays them... kids?
How you gonna say stellar blade was its closest competitor when Tides of Annihilation is second lol
I'm glad Digimon got some exposure. It's absolutely baffling how underrated the franchise in general is. Super excited for this new game and also Tides of Annihilation
This is why we can’t have nice things?
Metal Gear deserved better, but I sort of get it. The trailer leaked a week ago and seeing my family check out during the trailer sort of felt like I had a new awareness of how people perceive some games I like.
I‘ve never played 5NaF or watched videos about it, but from what I know, this is a big „streamer game“, with many fans just watch streamers playing it for the first time. I am more of a „go play yourself“ guy.
Glad to see ToA’s trailer being successful btw.
Let's just say Sony has the statistic that shows a good numbers of FNAF fans who owns PS.
I personally never played the game but i've watched the live act movie and i quite enjoyed it.
Got so stoked when I saw the Steel Wool Studios logo. 34 years old and I absolutely adore these games. There isn't an age limit on having fun and being scared.
I'm sad that the Willy's Wonderland game wasn't given more love a fully 3D animatronic beat-em-up as the rage Cage would have been great.
I have FNAF Security Breach in my physical horror collection and I enjoyed what I played of it. It's big on the jump scares and tense chase sequences but some bugs and lack of direction kept it from it's potential.
Most people: oMg tHiS SoP WaS sO b0rInG!1!
The same people: let me watch the lamest announcement of the same SOP again
It was a pretty terrible State of Play so it doesn't surprise me.
I wonder how the list would look if you could count reposts of videos from big gaming sites like IGN and Gamespot? Views for big games could feasibly be being spread over different channels whereas if FNAF is only being posted by Sony it's views are concentrated in one place.
I don't know this is happening of course, maybe FNAF just is very popular. Or garners a lot of attention at least.
Really Pathetic....
Not a FNAF fan and do not like the creator either. I guess he really wants to milk this franchise. Can't say I blame him though, but yeah, I will not be a patron.
Damn more people need to see lost soul aside!
I know I always gripe when people complain on articles, but seriously. Who the hell even likes this trash? Every damn time I see it I just think it’s so stupid. How is it THAT much more popular than these other trailers!
I teach high school seniors and every year for the last five years the moment they find out I’m a gamer at least 10 of them inevitably ask me if I play FNAF. To which I have to disappoint and say no. So I’m not shocked at all.
@BearsEatBeets high school kids love it. It’s massive where I live every year.
Does anyone go back to watch the individual trailers after watching the show? I usually only do if I was surprised like with the SM2 & Saros trailers
Why? When Saros and Tides of Annihilation were announced?
Tides of Annihilation, Darwin's Paradox, Split Fiction or Midnight Walk. Then again recognizable IPs/nostalgia. Yeah thanks, how much better are you people then zoomers?
Hell Is Us & others looked flashy but forgettable, I saw it before State of Play in something else, still couldn't even tell it was that it was just so bland.
What young person even can tell the difference. Tides of Annihilation being up there I respect as it is quality & what game I'd want not just as a DMC/Bayonetta type but what it offers.
Even beside Stellar Blade (besides it's crossover in this case, it works people will enjoy them, money benefits, I assume like Dead Cells with Castlevania these are quality crossover levels/other aspects).
Freddy's I just went oh, ok pass. I have no interest and don't care. It's fair it's becoming more then it was but I even prefer Night Trap over Freddy's even.
Like Geometry Dash or others simplicity or Youtubers talk about them. Young people have no intelligence in them, whatever fits their narrow mindedness/social circle/easily pops up.
I still enjoyed kid friendly games alongside teen/mature ones. I didn't lock myself into GTA or NFS, I didn't own them then either. NFS nowdays though & still notice the quality per entry.
I had COD sure but I was SP type & blood effects also really disgusted me I have gotten past it now. Even Resistance Fall of Man the atmosphere creeped me out in 2006.
They are social bees sucking up anything they can of hype/trends & whatever they can.
I don't hate trends unless they have quality.
Problem is I find viral trends boring, hardcore audience trends to be hit or miss as some games stand out and expand well, others I find mostly don't like many eh soulslikes (not even into those types of games but can tell the difference) or any platformers, racing, shooters I've researched, bought & gone wow this is left behind but still quality.
I value some trends with some good competitive games out there even if 1 offs or trilogies and left behind. I still respect some of them for their mechanics, world building, possibilities of themes/story, humour/tone, etc.
Then again like citations, or questions or even any valid discussion about things then the bare minimum, no one cares and no one questions things, just eat eat eat.
They don't question quality or anything else, they are the most boring individuals on the planet, eat up skins/names of things hear before, then functionality of a character, level design, world, etc. They couldn't care less for that level of quality. Yet to me it was always on my mind at least more nowadays. But when getting into other genres or just playing any games I saw I was like huh this is different.
They can stay honey hype eaters. The rest of us older people or even 20 somethings with an understanding of old/modern games differences, 'taste' and quality can help then young people with eating it up as their own contribution, say old games are bad because old as have no good enough excuse & are too stupid to have a discussion anyway, or eat up the live service and trend fest garbage out there.
Skins judging because brain dead people. XD
Again some trends/live services can be great if handled well, but many aren't. As if I need to mention Foamstars for the 10th+ time.
Zoomers come on play something different with actual quality for once or open your minds not keep it narrow even more.
I could say I have 1000s & they'd be like but why? They don't get quality.
@Lup Honestly? I'd go as far as to say it was top 3 best SoP ever. If it had an announcement from Fromsoft it would've been the best game showcases of all time (not that I expected a From announcement with Nightreign around the corner lol)
@James_42
Very different tastes, I guess. The only stuff I liked was Shinobi and the Warriors game.
Shinobi wasn't really a surprise, since we knew it was in development, but at least we've got a release date.
And the Warriors game, even though I'm a fan of the series wasn't the best looking one (but at least it's cheap).
So it was mostly a waste of time for me, yes.
@Lup Oh id say those are two of the only games I wasn't interested in tbh.
I was most excited about Todes of Annihilation, Snake Eater, Stellar Blade DLC etc
