Sony remastered Patapon and Patapon 2 for the PS4, but the final game in the rhythm RPG trilogy has remained conspicuously absent. But it looks like that will change with the next PS Plus Premium update, as a patch for Patapon 3 on PS5 and PS4 has been spotted by Gematsu on the Japanese giant’s servers.
In all likelihood, this version of the game will be utilising PSP emulation, and thus should be part of the aforementioned PS Plus Premium update, which is scheduled to be announced on Wednesday at 8:30AM PT/4:30PM GMT.
Originally released for the PSP in 2011, Patapon 3 is generally considered the ugly duckling of the franchise due to its slightly bloated campaign and focus on ‘Uberhero’ characters. But it’s still got the same wonderful rhythm action gameplay, and is well worth playing if you like the franchise.
One thing that will likely be missing in this version is the multiplayer mode, which was a huge feature in the original, spanning both competitive combat and co-op. Sony’s emulated titles tend to disable online functionality, so don’t expect to find that in this edition of the game.

I don't have premium, but of true ill gladly pay for this as I never finished it on PSP, and would love to play it again given I played the originals, platted 1&2, and I backed Ratatan day 1.
Sure, as stated it is the runt of the litter, but well worth trying out, if you're a fan of rhythm action games, and especially if you have premium.
If you didn't like the first two, I'm afraid there's definitely nothing for you here though.
@Slideaway1983 It'll be available to purchase standalone as well! All the Sony games are!
Great to have this on PS5/PS4!
Off-topic slightly, but I can't believe we're still waiting on some of the newer Everybody's Golf/Everybody's Tennis games through this emulation effort.
I freakin' love the PSP version of Everybody's Tennis. I can't think of any licensing issues they'd have. I hope it gets ported soon.
@get2sammyb
Namco Smash court would also be cool.
I can't believe this is real. I'm so excited for this! The online multiplayer was a big component of this game, for sure, and it's not going to feel the same without it. Yet, it's still a very fun experience. I played this for almost 200 hours when it came out on the PSP. If this comes to fruition, it's the best gaming news of the year so far for me.
@get2sammyb oh yeah, I know it'll be available to purchase, but similar to @FreasurePlanten i just meant If it ends up being true.
And yeah, great to finally have the trilogy; though the debug mode hopefully isn't there this time to you know... encourage playing the game (which I'd wager a few people used that go for trophies - myself included when I had enough 🤣🤣🤣 )
It was an early cold morning in West Brom, I'm entitled to make no sense 🤣
Add that to the list of classics leaked but yet to release, then. Alone in the Dark 2 has leaked two/three times by now and was even up on the store (before being removed) on two separate occasions. 😂
@Slideaway1983 I'm also excited for Ratatan! I'm glad the creators were able to form a team and are making Patapon-like games still. I'm not sure how I feel about it having roguelike mechanics, but we'll cross that bridge when we get there.
I played the 1st and 2nd game but i never played this one.
@FreasurePlanten yep I'm.exactly the same. My barin can't deal with "what happens if I do this?" And immediately fail 🤣
As much as I like rogue like/lite games, I'm equally easily confused and annoyed by them...
But as long as ratatan has similar formula and cute, catchy tracks, I'm a happy man as the art style is beautiful.
I even paid originally for PS4/5 and then went onto back it again and bought a switch copy when the slacker backer campaign came to whatever the secondary site was 🤣
It's a shame I don't understand discord though, as I couldn't sort out my role for the beta.
I'll wait for my steam alpha anyway. Let people more in the know get on with helping them squash the bugs!
