Seemingly taking a page straight out of classic Ben Stiller comedy, Zoolander, ZA-UM, the developer behind and entity currently in possession of the immaculate Disco Elysium IP, is offering a truly inspired piece of merch: based on the in-game Frittte! plastic bag used to gather up garbage (in exchange for abysmally small amounts of money), the $165 Eternal Carrier plastic bag bag promises to plumb new and untapped depths of late-stage capitalism.
Funnily enough, it's been on sale for months, but so deeply underground was it that Rock Paper Shotgun only just became aware of its ridiculous existence (thanks, PC Gamer). Now that mainstream sites have caught on, any hipster cred such an item might have imparted is essentially gone; we thought it was worth pointing out that such a genuinely hardcore (hardcore!) piece of Disco apparel existed out there.

What do you think of the Eternal Carrier? Is this the missing piece of your Harrier Du Bois, Raphaël Ambrosius Costeau cosplay? Make a bold fashion statement in the comments section below.

This is the exact opposite of the point of Disco Elysium
@breakneck sigh... why worry about discussing the human face of the state of gaming, when... <shrugs> who knows what is simulation these days, and what is just a bug (I mean feature) of reality.
To be fair however - I guess the writers can't be the arbiters for social justice, or all knowing.
It saddens me to see such a genuinely revolutionary piece of media be utterly consumed by capitalist pigs. But then as Joyce says in the game, “Capital has the ability to subsume all critiques into itself. Even those who would critique capital end up reinforcing it instead.” Insidious but true.
Thanks to Breakneck for providing the real story.
Who and what is this claimant?
Anyways - people should be aware that ZA:UM is under the control of greedy, worthless scum, so DON'T fund them except for maybe buying one of the BEST games EVER MADE.
@nessisonett The power of money needs to end.
Terrible, they are filibustering devs
I guess this is like buying new jeans that are worn out and have holes in them — buying a bag that looks like one that is literally free at any grocery store. 😂
Lol. The inevitable failure of communism made manifest(o).
@wildcat_kickz If by that you mean having the cause completely taken over by other people, who then pursue personal profit, then sure.
@nessisonett That is exactly what I meant, because that is the unfortunate, inevitable fate of all communism.
I love all the blame being put on economic systems here. Because it's the systems that are the problem, not the inherent greed in mankind, that's just a product of the systems surely.
@JuiceboxMeister exactly. We do have scientific proof of that.
The "inherent greed" you talk about, instead, is just another capitalist myth, and one you seem to have fallen for.
@breakneck Thank you for linking to that gofundme. Disco is an incredible unique creation, the best novel I have played and the most beautiful game I have read.
I dove too much into history of its making and it is nothing short of spectacular and once in a universe.
Glad to see that gofundme reached its goal.
Cheers!
@clvr I wouldn't call it a capitalist myth but rather an emergent fact. ALL systems are built by man and have their worst and best qualities built in. It's unavoidable, regardless of system. Some mitigate the worst better than others and some multiply the worst at the detriment of others. We should be looking at which systems provide the most benefit while limiting the disparities as much as possible. It's a never-ending process and responsibility.
I wasn't trying to be supportive of capitalism over other economies (though I do believe it offers the best options, at least for now) but just trying to point out that there is a more insidious and foundational problem.
I am curious to the scientific proof you mentioned. You got a link? Love reading about this stuff (see above "constant process" comment.)
@JuiceboxMeister basically all of cultural anthropology as a field goes on to demonstrate what I just told you, along with a dose of history of socialism and how it's been besieged on all fronts by the US and other capitalist forces in every single one of its incarnation.
Seriously, if people educated themselves about socialism we'd stop with this "looking for the best system/nothing's better than capitalism now" nonsense.
