There's a reason why Lost Soul Aside has become one of the most talked-about and reported-on indie titles of the past decade: Sony has been there pretty much every step of the way supporting the one-man team Yang Bing. Detailed in a new interview with IGN, the developer speaks of how they've had the backing of Sony from essentially day one, as far back as 2016.
Bing reveals he had a contact within PlayStation at the time, who contacted him about the action project and a potential collaboration when the game's original viral announcement was published. This partnership truly began when Bing returned to Shanghai, China at the end of 2016, where an agreement was made with Sony that it would back the title in some form.
In more recent years, this partnership became more substantial, especially with the introduction of the China Hero Project, which sees Sony offer support and guidance to indie projects it likes of the look of in the country. There's also an India Hero Project for that nation also. Then, the collaboration between the two parties became so strong that Sony will now be the publisher of Lost Soul Aside on PS5 and PC.
Other games to release as a result of the China Hero Project have been F.I.S.T.: Forged in Shadow Torch and ANNO: Mutationem, so there's definitely some pedigree attached to the brand now. Lost Soul Aside, however, has been hotly anticipated for years now — there's quite a bit more excitement backing it than other projects. The game launches for PS5 and PC on 30th May 2025.

This is the most rushed title out there
Seriously? I haven't seen anyone talking about this game until the article I saw on this site 2 days ago.
Idk if you can really say its an indie when sony is publishing it
@Czar_Khastik Beyond good and evil 2 begs to differ.
Certainly a title that has my interest- hopefully this will turn out good.
“ the one-man team “
Did I read that correctly, 1 man is making this entire game? It would explain the 10 years, but also has me worried a bit.
@J-Dubs Would be seen as second-party back in the day.
@SMJ This game has definitely been in the conversation. I think this is like the 3rd time it’s featured in a SoP or something.
I wasn’t interested at all from the beginning, but i must say with every new trailer i’m getting more interested. Will wait for reviews
Edit: @J-Dubs Come to think of it, i’m actually confused what’s considered an indie nowadays, whether it solely refers to being a game from an independent studio or if things like scope and production levels are considered
@SMJ Plenty of people have been anticipating this and have been talking about it in the comments over the years. It's been in several PS presentations now
@LogicStrikesAgain Yeah the term seems to be used kind of loosely. Is Death Stranding 2 indie if all it means is an independent developer?
@J-Dubs You’re right, just like how Dave the Diver is called an indie, but it’s studio is actually owned by publisher Nexon.
Weird, would be interesting to know what the actual definition is, if there even is one
@rjejr same for black myth wukong, they eventually expanded though same as this
1 man team? Duh seriously? Game looks great though!
It's made by one guy for the most part right? Very impressive but I'm keeping my expectations low, I imagine it'll be a short game so hopefully the combat is great.
There's no way this was made by one man. Maybe it started as an idea in 1 mans head, but this product was probably made by hundreds of people.
“Most talked-about and reported-on indie titles of the past decade?” This is the first I’m hearing of it…
@LavenderShroud Maybe it’s the most reported on because it has been in development for 10 years lol idk
Or did you mean it’s the first you’re hearing of this game?
@LogicStrikesAgain Yooka-Laylee was called indie even though it was made by a former key members from Rare. Who have years of experience. Maybe the term just means independent studios these days? I always felt it meant it was something that was made by inexperienced people who make passion projects.
@LogicStrikesAgain First I’ve heard of it in general.
@amatmulisha @RawnDawn @J-Dubs @rjejr It was originally being worked on by one man but he was able to open a studio a year after the reveal due to Sonys backing.
@LavenderShroud Nobody quite knows what qualifies as an Indie game anymore. It used to be simple and just mean a game was published independently without the financial and technical support of a large game publisher.
But nowadays you have games like Dave the Diver which may LOOK like an Indie, but the dev is fully owned by Nexon and thus not an Independent game. Yet it was included in most Indie GOTY categories. And then you have something like Baldurs Gate 3 that was published by Larian themselves and is technically an Indie game, which wasn't.
But this is nothing new for the games industry there are many terms we use that have no proper definition AAA, AA, Second party etc. The most recent one I heard is Triple I (III) for massive Indies like Baldurs Gate 3. Like so many things in gaming there is no consensus.
@CrispyMango92 ahh i see. Thanks for the info. It’s sound ridiculous for this type of game to only develop by only 1 person lol 😅
Only games I see people talking about when it comes to Sony is remasters, god of war and days gone is a couple of examples, but not whatever this is.
@Skynet04 Well, you must not have read all the comments then 🙃
No offense to any of my fellow readers, but if you have not heard of this game at all, then it’s probable you don’t follow videogame news too much and, I mean, there is nothing wrong with it. I am actually sick of hearing about this darn project XD FFXV hadn’t released when we started to hear bout it.
@Czar_Khastik Nah mate, it was sonic speed. It only took one year
@CrispyMango92 Oh that's amazing!
This guy must have serious talent if Sony helped him that much, definitely does look good.
Could've just called it FF17
