Sony is running a sale on its PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium subscription tiers for the next 10 days in the USA, with a saving of up to 37 per cent on offer. The discount only seems to be applying for new sign-ups and returning members, so you can't stack your current membership this way.
The sale actually makes both tiers the same price, so you may as well go all the way up to PS Plus Premium if you wish to take full advantage. There's a 25 per cent discount on PS Plus Extra and a 37 per cent discount on PS Plus Premium.
Here's what that looks like for a 12-month subscription, available until 24th February 2025:
PS Plus Tier | Original Price | Sale Price |
---|---|---|
PS Plus Extra | $99.99 | |
PS Plus Premium | $99.99 |

What about us in Europe? I ask because I am interested in upgrading .
Seems ARPU increase reported recently was us in Europe, guess US not so much so discounts offered to try and convince more to upgrade.
If extra and premium is the same price why wouldn't you choose premium?
Well that a lot of games for $99. Too bad there's no love for regular subscribers though.
That's not good plus I havnt had the 5 days put on yet sony o me for the outage I'm really starting get fed up of sony now I love the single player games but can't stand them as a company
No sale for Essentials? Oh well...
@Oram77 We had one, at least in the UK. There was no discount on Essential (still £60) whereas Extra and Premium were about £75 with a couple of quid difference in a years subscription.
@sanderson72 Oh really? I didn't know that, well thats rather annoying.
@Oram77 https://www.pushsquare.com/news/2025/01/ps-plus-subscriptions-on-sale-up-to-35percent-off
Can't say I'm missing PS+ (the games have been very poor recently) and the only aspect I'd like is PS5 save backups. I might resub to Essential when the next ESO expansion is available but until then, not fussed.
@Americansamurai1 Get Netflix HD or Netflix 4k for only 1 USD per month (for the 1st month, following months 15 USD for HD, 20 USD for 4k).
So why not choosing 4k? It costs the same!
I have a backlog of games I own and want to play, but find no time for. Of course I need a subscription service!
Active in Europe, i just bought it in spain
No stacking, no buying!
Discount is not showing up for me yet. I'll try again tomorrow
Current Essential member. It's giving me 35% off if I upgrade to Premium, making it a little cheaper than if I upgraded to Extra.
Weird.
I wish there was a sale for current members. Also i assume that means they really got a lot of new ps users like the last post said
My Premium expired 5 days ago and I wasn't going to re-sub until a decent discount appeared so the timing of this is impeccable, especially with a new black edition Portal arriving next week!!
Man I always forget how expensive these subscriptions are until I click on the article.🤑 Both of them being the same price is a little weird but I guess Sony is hoping Premium subscribers will enjoy it too much to quit next year? 🤷🏻♂️
I’ll stick to doing a month at a time for those rare occasions that I’d like to have it. Maybe when they add Astrobot. Thankfully the 4 online games I’m playing don’t require it, but if they did I suppose I’d have to pay.
> The discount only seems to be applying for new sign-ups and returning members
This has been the case with every PS+ sale since the rework and frankly I don't like it very much.
When did it become the norm to treat existing customers worse than new/returning customers? Why not reward loyalty? It sucks that Sony don’t offer this to existing subscribers.
@Feffster They learned from mobile phone operators, I guess
And the not letting current members renew is why I'll be dropping to Essential next month when my Premium expires and just wait for a sale.
It is absurd that they only feature this for new members; not current; loyal members. I dropped from the Premium Tier in December down to Essential. The only significant benefit that I got from Premium was using the streaming games on occasion. I could do without the free game trials.
Let my Extra expire last year but I'll do a one off Premium year for $99. Playing through Jaks and Ratchets and some other oldies plus the odd monthly add seems good to me. But zero chance I renew at market rate.
@Max_the_German your argument makes no sense. They have a sale goings on right now for 1 year for extra and premium both cost 99.99 why would you chose extra when you can premium for the same price.
@Americansamurai1 Because after this 12 months you pay full price, and then most people are too lazy to downgrade even if they don’t need the Premium stuff. If this makes no sense to you, then ask again and wait for another answer which makes more sense to you.
@Max_the_German people do downgrade or cancel after a year I see it all the time. Again try to make sense or don't reply back to me with nonsense.
@Americansamurai1 Exactly, especially those that normally go for Extra will try Premium and this is their strategy to entice to keep you at the highest tier in the future.
Got an “Upgrade to Deluxe and save 35%” offer here today (Australia). Trying to stack a new year on top of my Extra subscription is still full price though.
If we actually had Premium here, not just the hamstrung Deluxe tier, I’d probably consider it. Come on, Sony… 😕
I see the offer too, here in India. Allowed my sub to expire in December and so far haven't regretted it. But in two minds right now since Sony offers discounted PS Plus only once or twice a year.
Too bad there's no psplus basic discount, I refuse to buy it at $80 since I usually bought it at $40 when it's discounted on website like cdkeys 😕
Welp, I can't say that I don't completely understand and empathize with everyone's complaints about it only being available to new subscribers and it not being a good value anyway, but I'm less than a month into my PS5 and am not entirely sure which of the many acclaimed hits are actually for me, so looks like I'm signing up (I'm curious whether I'll think it's worth keeping at full price a year from now).
@Voltan they learned from any subscription service since the advent of subscription services. You don’t need to entice existing subscribers unless they begin to show an unexpected level of churn. Loyalty doesn’t mean anything to a company. Never has, never will
