We played Patapon’s spiritual successor Ratatan at the Taipei Game Show recently and were a bit disappointed with the demo. There was nothing really wrong with the game, but without a tutorial, we really struggled to wrap our head around the marching commands.
Thankfully, seeing how it’s supposed to be played in this all-new gameplay reveal video has restored our enthusiasm. Unlike the PSP titles it’s inspired by, this is a roguelike, so you’ll be picking various buffs and status upgrades as you progress.

The press release explains: “In each adventure, Ratatan and its Cobun randomly receive different power-ups and rewards in every battle. Players will experience different adventures each time, with various power-ups bringing various diverse effects and increasing gameplay possibilities.”
There’s still no release date attached to the title, but it looks like it’s definitely getting closer to completion now. If you need something to keep you occupied while you wait, however, it’s worth remembering that Patapon 3 just released on PS5 and PS4 as part of PS Plus Premium.

Why does everything have to be a Rougelike,Roguelite,Soulslike,Metroidvania, etc etc. Shows how much creativity is in the industry right now.
@Jrs1 All roguelite really means is that you slowly build up permanent rewards rather than having to start from scratch every playthrough. It's not that deep.
@themightyant I see 👍
I have no experience with Patapon and found this hard to follow... It looks cute!
Backed this on Kickstarter last year. Still looking forward to it!
