Cast your minds back to a different, simpler time in 2021, when leading tech firm NVIDIA spectacularly stuffed up by allowing a list of future games to leak via its GeForce Now service. Fast forward four years, and many of the games on the list have since been released, with a few notable expectations. Where in all of Gaia/Ivalice are our coveted Final Fantasy IX and Final Fantasy Tactics remakes?
NateTheHate, an insider with a red-hot record of late, says that both remain in active development, which is some comfort, at least (thanks, VGC). The Hateful Nate says that you shouldn't expect "FFIXR" in 2025 but that a 2026 launch is a possibility. No sort of timeline was given for Final Fantasy Tactics other than Nate's assurance that the hugely influential title was still on the way.
Do you believe Nate, considering his recent run of predictions? Continue to wait patiently in the comments section below.

I will definitely play those whenever they materialize
I'm quite satisfied with the existing versions, but I will consider playing a new version if it seems worth it.
Not wasting time thinking about them though until they are out.
I hope that they look more like Stellar Blade and less like Concord
@PushSquareUser wut
@PushSquareUser they won't look like either but rather more like final fantasy
I hope I'm wrong, but I just don't see Square-Enix doing a Final Fantasy IX remake while they're still in the middle of remaking Final Fantasy VII.
@Bentleyma You think they'll put that effort into IX? I'm guessing VII's remake is as hard as they'll go for a long time. Hell, they even had to come out and say not to worry about the third VII remake release, that they are going just as big with it... even though it hasn't been selling as well as they'd hoped. We'll see!
We still don't have a perfect FFT out there. There's issues with every version of it (slowdown, loading, touch controls...), so a perfect version would be swell. I'm going to express doubt here that SE can pull it off. They'll do something like HD-2D...but you can no longer rotate maps.
I really hope they keep ff tactics with sprites. Not 3d poor texture renders that they have used for many games. It ruins it for me personally. Have it look like Octopath Traveller etc. Please.
I'm a big Square Enix fan and I think this is the first time I've seen them so quiet. They are so hush about their pipeline, they only have DQI and II HD announced for this year, and have gone very quiet on KHIV and DQXII. Even their mobile side seems absent. I'm so used to them in the past having over 10 announced games in the pipeline at any given time. They've only given us 3 next gen ganes so far as well
@SteveJaye yes a FF Tactics HD-2D would be perfect for this
@PushSquareUser
You need to leave your mum’s basement every once in a while, interact with real people, breath some fresh air. It will do you good.

@PushSquareUser On the plus side they’ve all probably touched a real woman in their life. No, your mum doesn’t count.

@PushSquareUser Yeah, my ideology is Concord, you got me.
I feel like you will never be able to grasp the fact that I couldn’t care less about Concord or even remotely understand why it’s “woke”. It’s just not an important thing to me. it’s quite clearly some insane obsession of yours though. That’s why you need to get out into the real world and talk to real people. Your current thinking is not healthy, you sound like a crazy obsessed chud who watches those ragebaiting YouTube videos then review bombs the games they tell you to hate. Think for yourself for a second. Your state of mind is not healthy.

@PushSquareUser This is a discussion about FFIX and Tactics Remakes. It’s not a place for your toxic politics. Take it somewhere else.
Wasn’t expecting an Alt Right rant, the people treating marginalised groups as human are, historically, on the wrong side of history apparently.
But back to Final Fantasy, I agree - I too hope we get plenty of sexy, seasonal and revealing costumes for Freya in the remake and subsequent DLC’s.

I hope the next Stellar Blade will look more like Final Fantasy
@Bentleyma IX is a vastly simpler game to remake. VII also has to show visual progression over the games and movies released after it as well as include aspects of those world builders (both games in the VIIR series already have multiple references to Crisis Core and Dirge of Cerberus)
Hoping for HD-2D for both. I was going to replay FFT for the first time since I beat it at its initial release, but I guess I'll wait now. I never got far in FFIX and hopefully will like the remake better.
People seem to love FF9, but it was one of my least favorite in the series, along with 13. Part of my distaste for it is the chibi-like art style, and the other is how archaic the 3D sprites on pre-rendered backgrounds felt. Although I did complete it, FF9 is one that I only finished once and never looked back.
FF7 and 8 both used the same 3D with static backgrounds, but at least the art style wasn’t so grating on my eyes. Maybe the remake of FF9 will be better.
@PushSquareUser It's final fantasy, they don't make ugly men or women.
Anyway,I am hyped for FF9 remake,I never got to play the original,but from what I have seen the main cast look cool.
I'm ready for them. My list anticipated releases is near non-existent.
This FFIX remake has been in the back of my mind since I first heard about the NVIDIA leak. I really hope it comes sooner rather than later but at least a confirmation would be great. Then I can decide when to start replaying this 60 - 80 hour masterpiece before the remake. Still one of my favorite video game soundtracks ever!
Can we has a FFXIII port on the PlayStation then, to hold us over?
Yeah, I know it's just a hallway. I don't care. It's a pretty hallway.
That FFIX remake trailer is going to HIT.LIKE.HELL
@LikelySatan There's an almost perfect version if you're willing to do a few things. The PSP version runs great in PPSSPP and has patches for the slowdown. I've been able to move the save file I've been picking at for the last 16 or so years from PSP to PC to experience Dark Knights scaled up to 4K - it's pretty great.
@IntrepidWombat I've said it here a few times, but I'm waiting on my Retroid 5 to come in. I can't wait. I read up on and I'll definitely be trying the live patch on PSP. If I can play w/o touch controls I'll check out the android version.
