A rather strange surprise from the latest State of Play broadcast, Warriors: Abyss is an entirely new title from Koei Tecmo.
It's a crossover game in what seems to be the Warriors Orochi universe, in which over 100 characters from Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors take on hell itself.
This isn't your usual hack-and-slash musou masher, however. Abyss is a roguelite, complete with randomised elements that should make each run fairly interesting. The idea is that you'll steadily unlock and build a dream team of historical warriors, progressing deeper and deeper into the underworld's depths.

Warriors: Abyss is out now on PS5 and PS4, at a budget price of $24.99 / £19.99 — but will you be giving it a shot? Select your ultimate team in the comments section below.

Looks like a mobile game, probably the worst of the showings tonight for me.
Looks cooler than any Warriors game, but that's not much of a bar.
This will be what all warriors games will become if DW Origins doesnt sell very well and 'prove' the series can make money still.
I've seen free mobile games that look better than this.
Was really tempted to buy it the moment it was announced.
But I have too many games already.
I'm in a big Samurai Warriors phase at the moment so this came out at a good time.
I bought it last night. I debated it because I still need to finish Origins, but for $25 I figured oh well.
It looked like a Diablo-style game from the trailer, but it is far more Hades-like. Each run has 7 levels then a boss level. There are allies you can bond with that appear after combos for special movies and your ultimate attack. There are stats and progression, and lots of unlock mechanics for characters and abilities. It throws a lot at you in the first hour to figure out all that’s going on, but I think it was fun. I’ll be playing more today.
