WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers is a Soulslike action RPG, which, depending on your tolerance for the subgenre, is shaping up to be another gruelling challenge to overcome, and it looks pretty darn good. Publisher 505 Games has put out a lore trailer showing how the world's strange avian deities have brought ruin to the world.
WUCHANG is expected in 2025 but doesn't have a firm release date yet. Developed by Leenzee, the game is set during a fantastical reimagining of China's Ming Dynasty in the Kingdom of Shu. Playing as the titular Wuchang, a pirate warrior afflicted by the horrific Feathering disease. We look forward to taking this particular title under our wing, featuring multiple endings, deadly environments, and gruelling boss encounters.

What do you think of WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers? Are you up for another action RPG romp based on Chinese legend in a similar vein to Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty? Let us know in the comments section below.

Is it just me or are all these upcoming high profile Soulslikes starting to blur together now?
I always thought this game is Wo Long sequel because the title sounds similar.
Bit disappointed its a souls games, was hoping more for a fun action game like Stellar Blade
Not quite on par with the chapter conclusion animated cut scenes in Black myth Wukong. Those are out of this world.
Some like wuchang (seriously, Chinese studios copying eachother already) do blend together but phantom blade 0 does stand out and looks like something special.
Great, yet more soukslike 😮💨
These are to me are what live service are to everyone else.
I keep forgetting about this game, does look really cool, but I wish Phantom Blade Zero was coming out instead this year instead.
@Icey664 Stellar Blade is a souls-like
Err…is it just me or is that video kinda lame? It felt like it was about to veer into full-on parody at any moment but never quite did. I think it was actually taking itself seriously that whole time, though I’m not 100% certain…
Why is there always so much contempt for soulslike games in online communities these days? It’s like me saying “Hollow Knight Silksong, another metroidvania? Yawn!” or “Doom The Dark Ages, another FPS? Eww yuck!”. Why don’t other subgenres also get this kind of treatment? Maybe it’s because it’s a relatively newer subgenre than these other ones and some people don’t like ‘new’ things.
@Cakefish so many people get off on hating on things, they always filter what they see and experience in life through what they can find to dislike about something, even when that something is overwhelmingly positive
@James_42 no it is not. SB is more like hack and slash action game just like Bayonetta & Devil May Cry.
@James_42 Not really, it's more of an action adventure. If it was a souls like, I wouldn't have been able to finish it because I suck at them lol
@Dr_ENT How is it not? It has bonfires (camps) that respawn enemies and replenish healing when resting.
Yes it has combos, but so does Nioh and that's 100% a soulslike
@Cakefish You know how the saying goes "haters gone to hate".
@somnambulance it’s just you
It’s looking great so far, can’t wait to see more
@Icey664 Action adventure could be used to describe anything. Dark Souls itself is an action adventure lol.
Also difficulty isn't really a factor I consider in whether something is a souls-like or not. Even if it was - there are a few bosses in SB that took me more than a few tries to beat so it's not like the game is easy.
Btw not trying to hate on SB - I adore it and consider it the 2nd best non-Fromsoft Souls-like after Lies of P. It's just that I don't see why people are so certain it isn't one when it clearly is to me.
@James_42 going by your logic then Tomb Raider games which were released on PS4 (bonefires everywhere) are considered a Soulslike game.
@Cakefish probable because these same people play on an easy mode or didn’t make it past the asylum demon in the first souls game
@Icey664 The irony in this is that Stella Blade operates just as closely as a Souls game. The only difference is that it's more action orientated. Similar to Nioh.
@Dr_ENT Wrong. Have you even played DMC... Stella Blade is nothing like Bayonetta or DMC, mechanic wise.
@Dr_ENT Tomb Raider 2013 uses bonfires as save points. Stellar Blade and other souls-likes use these as points that respawn enemies and replenish healing items
This should not have been a soulslike
@Cakefish I think it’s largely because Souls games have such similar aesthetics and styles, so even when they stand out, they have stylistic and gameplay similarities. FPS and Metroidvanias have more diversity in their setting and style, so less people make those types of comments, though I think things like Another Crab’s Treasure do well to dispute the similarity notion by truly standing out and having a totally unique visual tone. Also, you could make an argument that Hollow Knight is a Soulslike. It’s certainly Souls-adjacent, despite its Metroidvania format, so interesting title to call out for that.
@Frmknst @breakneck I don’t think it’s true that they were blurring together as soon as Dark Souls 2. Lol. But yeah, I don’t know. I don’t dislike the genre, but it does feel like the tonalities most Souls games go for are similar, with similar mechanics, and even similar names. It’s an interesting genre for me, in that, I know people that literally only play Souls games at this point, and I know people that can’t stand the genre at all. It’s incredibly polarizing as a genre, almost as much as live service titles are. For me, I was sort of glad games like Stellar Blade and Wukong innovated on the “hard combat” style of games while not quite being Soulslikes because hopefully it diversifies action gaming experiences long term.
@KillerBoy And I don’t think it’s just me now since I’ve gotten a couple responses that indicate others feel the same.
@GilgaMax309 What he means is Stellar Blade is in the same "character action" genre with DMC, Bayonetta, Ninja Gaiden, or MGRising.
