Assassin's Creed Shadows is out in the wild, and by all indications, it appears to be the win Ubisoft so desperately needs right now. Whether it can firm up the larger company remains to be seen, but the developers themselves have thanked fans for the "sheer amount of love and positivity we've received".
In a thank you post from the entire dev team posted to the game's official subbreddit, it seems the response from the community has been overwhelmingly positive, invigorating, even:
"Seeing your excitement, your thoughtful reactions, and your joy has meant the world to us. After years of hard work, there’s nothing more rewarding than watching the community connect with what we’ve created... The entire Dev Team has been reading your posts — the celebrations, the feedback, the theories — and it’s been inspiring. It fuels us. And it helps us keep improving. Thank you for being part of this journey with us. This is just the beginning for Shadows."
On launch day, we noted that the game had accrued over 3000 user reviews and a Very Positive review rating on Steam, which is no small feat. At the time of writing, that number is over 9000 (heh) and remains Very Positive; it's clear Ubisoft has managed to appease the players with this one.

Just completed the campaign today and while I usually step away for a bit once all the gear is upgrades and whatnot, I just find this one much more interesting and enjoyable to play. Don’t get me wrong it has all the jank with getting stuck on objects and odd input fussiness, but it’s just a chill game to enjoy.
All that remains to be seen is if the shareholders will be as happy as the dev team is.
Good on the team. I think it has moments that are a bit odd compared to prior entries, some parts I do like, some parts not sure. I'm not playing it though but from what I've seen of others and my own impressions from a friend playing it and their thoughts I think it works in certain areas no doubt.
But shareholders/execs/publisher impressions matter after all.
Especially fans in japan, really heart warming, even the japanese goverment reception 😛
It’s fun, beautiful and was worth the wait! I’m cherishing my little bit of free time in the evenings playing it. ❤️🙂
It's make a pleasant change seeing Ubisoft "winning" for once.
Now if they can sort out their toxic workplace, that'll be an even bigger W.
Good for ubisoft.you like to see that.word up son
Playing it was basically all I did this past weekend and I'm completely hooked. Had a great time and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
Regardless of what happens with Ubisoft as a whole in the future this team should be very proud of this game. It's fantastic and I'm just happy to see at least some positivity coming the games way after all the nonsense leading up to launch.
Thank you entire Shadows dev team. You did great!
I love it. As I prefer to fill in the map before pushing the main story (at least the areas where I wont get one shoted) I was pleasantly surprised to see how much you spend helping the people. You have your standard “root of all evil” targets (and some crazy endings to them. Taking out the Golden Teppo dropped my jaw) but also the “these people are making life hard for the locals”. It is nice to feel like I am making a difference and not just checking off the murder list.
@ATaco
Of course they won't, even on the possibility this wasn't a miss it doesn't solve the problem Ubisoft is facing.
It's a great game, 42 hrs later and I've only done Act 1, a lot of exploring, side questing and building an awesome hideout. Some of the story moments properly pull on the heartstrings nicely as well, with great acting, at least in Japanese as I'm playing immersion mode
@Coffeeglitch
How long did it take you to finish?
@stefan771 I rolled credits (including epilogue) in about 32 hours. Played on expert mode with no guided navigation. Great experience if a little bit of bummer when it’s all done.
