One of the many projects Warner Bros. Games had in the works before things went south was a crossover kart racer.
That's according to Colin Moriarty on his podcast Sacred Symbols, citing a conversation he had with "someone once associated with WB San Diego".
WB San Diego was one of the studios the publisher recently closed down.
Apparently, that team was working on a Mario Kart-like racing game, codenamed Moonlight. Two potential titles for the game were WB Racers and XDR (Cross Drift Racers).
Sharing common ground with the soon-to-be-defunct platform fighter MultiVersus, the kart racer would feature characters from a wide range of Warner Bros. properties, such as Adventure Time, Tom and Jerry, and Scooby-Doo.
Moriarty says he saw footage of the game, and it was running in Unreal Engine 5 with stylised visuals.
According to his source, the game was greenlit "early in the pandemic" and went through many iterations with a "lack of coherent approach" ultimately being its downfall.
Initially it was in production for all major platforms, but eventually scaled back to just a PC version, with hopes that console and mobile versions would follow if successful. It also apparently flip-flopped on being free-to-play or a premium game.
The source goes on to explain the team grew to about 100 people, but had a high degree of staff turnover. Although the game itself was described as "rock solid", development was "rudderless", leading to various issues.
Moriarty concludes by saying there was "quite a bit of animosity" among the team, who felt it was unfair that MultiVersus was given the opportunity to launch twice when their kart racer never got the chance.
As mentioned, WB San Diego is just one of the studios shut by Warner Bros., the others being Player First Games (MultiVersus) and Monolith Productions (Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor / Shadow of War, F.E.A.R.). The latter's Wonder Woman game was also cancelled.

So, Disney Speedstorm?🤷♂️
Please someone save the F.E.A.R franchise at any cost 🙏
This actually sounds like a great idea. I would much rather play a kart racer than the Smash clone.
This is a message to all the people out there to start supporting live service games otherwise everybody loses and we get deprived of such unique experiences
No thanks, the idea sounds great on paper but it's WB. It would have been riddled with bs live service junk. Even Mortal Kombat 1 which I love playing is riddled with live service junk. They have 3 different currencies, lots of skins locked behind a paywall and a lot of dumb mindless and time limited grind for other stuff. All designated to give people fomo. I'll say it again, no thanks.
