Just in case anyone was starting to worry about the fact that we've seen nothing from Ghost of Yotei since its reveal last year, a quick social media post has reiterated that the PS5 exclusive is still on course for its promised (if vague) 2025 release.
Said post comes from developer Sucker Punch's communication manager, Andrew Goldfarb. Promoting open positions at the studio, Goldfarb reiterates: "Help us launch Ghost of Yōtei this year."
Of course, what everyone wants to know is when we'll next get to see the Ghost of Tsushima sequel. Sony is as secretive as ever when it comes to its first-party projects — of course — but if Yotei really is dropping within the next nine months or so, then it probably needs to be reintroduced relatively soon.
For what it's worth, our money is on a summer blowout of some kind, followed by a launch date later in the year. But PlayStation does tend to work quite quickly these days with regards to marketing cycles and subsequent release information; a sudden Yotei showcase and summer launch certainly isn't outside the realms of possibility.
When do you think Ghost of Yotei will release? Keep your katana readied in the comments section below.

Yeah I think they’ll wait out GTA6 and release in November for a big Chrimbo push.
Mid August is what my gut says. I don't know why but that is what my fish n' chips filled gut whispers to me.
I wonder if they've been waiting for AC Shadows to get out of the way first before they fully start the marketing push.
I think either October or November
@AdamNovice The game was announced in September, the same month the delay was announced. If they really wanted to keep out of its way, they could have announced it after Shadow's launch.
I think this is just a consequence of them announcing the game early enough to show they had big games on the way, but not so early to begin the media campaign in full. I think they will relaunch the marketing when they have narrowed down the launch window more and not before, regardless of competition or respecting their partners.
I think it will launch in the fall, at first I'm thinking they will want to avoid GTA 6 but it's nearly April and it doesn't have a release date or window so I'm assuming that's not releasing this year.
I'm still baffled that mediocre terribly written GTA games are such a big deal.
@Dalamar People back them were getting brand new gameplay.
It’s a tough one as we are getting a big dose of this with Assassins creed shadows, and I’m not sure I want more anytime soon.
Then we have other games later this year and of course GTA 6.
Also different but let’s not forget switch 2 and a possible new Mario kart and 3d Mario platform game this year.
Maybe next year is better but it will put almost like last year until Astro Bot rescued us, zero Sony AAA games from their studios.
I guess we always Xbox studios to fall back on 🤣
Holiday is my bet, but Yotei can ghost me any time.
I'm ready.
@Paulbuck28 No way if GTA6 releases as planned
Hopefully summer. Doesn't need the heavy hitting fall lineup and potential gta6 nonsense
@Zeke68 Yōtei is the Yin to GTA IV Yang
In July like Tsushima.
His phrasing doesn’t sound optimistic, more like a statement that they need more hands on deck to make sure it launches this year. Absolutely banking on a 2026 release. Unlike Naughty Dog, Sucker Punch has never failed to deliver and hasn’t been mucking with things that ought to be left alone.
DS2 and Ghost of Yotei 2025
Saros and Wolverine 2026
Intergalactic and new Cory Barlog game 2027
@SystemAddict Agree 100% ❤️🔥
September or delayed to 2026 would be my guess. March onwards (including the Sony IP published by Bandai Namco) for 2025 is:
Golf is more of a Spring/Summer game release so I think Everybody's Golf Hot Shots is August. Then you have the situation regarding GTA6, the only Sony game I could see releasing in October - December is Horizon Online.
Good news! It's time again for a good game set in feudal Japan, with samurais and stuff.
@Ryo_Hazuki No one is biting 😉
Edo Period, let's goooooooo! Rise of the Ronin, AC Shadows, GoY. Fans of this setting are eating good,
@Ryo_Hazuki I'll bite 😉 AC Shadows is just a teaser
Great game but still not 100% the real deal.
I'm guessing likely in September to try and avoid a potential holiday GTA 6 release.
Good to know. Ghost of tsushima is one of the best video games ever made. Ghost of yotei is going to be special.word up son
@Dalamar Oh come on, are you really saying that GTA IV or San Andreas have “mediocre” or even just bad writing? That’s a classic take on hating on something just because everybody else likes it.
Even GTA V while not having as strong narrative as the previous ones is still pretty good by today’s standards, are you next going to say that RDR2’s writing sucks too?
I think it will be delayed into 2026, I'm guessing February.
Edit: and in that time frame, maybe spring next year will set the tone for it haha.
We haven’t even seen any gameplay for it and it’s releasing this year
I'm thinking July, just like Tsushima five years ago.
I think that literally nothing is getting a release date because of GTA6. I hope Rockstar says something soon, so we can finally get a release slate for the year.
Next week, hopefully ☹️
I'm guessing August-September
We all know that game that's gonna get released the same time as GTA6 has Horizon in the title....
I think they're waiting on Death Stranding 2 to be out before focusing on marketing this game, so we're not really seeing it again until late-June to early-July, & putting all their weight behind it for an October-November release,
@Dalamar I disagree, GTA IV was so good and the characters were so interesting that I have been thinking about them at least once a day for the last 18 years 😅
Maybe the earlier ones didn't have much of a story but I would say starting with San Andreas the writing has been progressively getting stronger (Vice City was basically just Scareface but still fantastic!).
I very much think they need to move it to 2026 to avoid GTA and the shadow of Shadows.
@IOI This particular poster seems overly negative on pretty much everything from what I have seen.
I have played about 10 hours of the first one and while a pretty game it seems like an Ubisoft clone. What will it take me to continue on? The fighting is mediocre.
My bet is on summer. GoT was released in July and I think Sony will want to avoid GTA6 entirely since it’s likely releasing in the holiday time frame (my money is on early November, right before Black Friday).
I can see it being Sony's big holiday day but of course like with every other release it will depend on what GTA VI drops.
@Dalamar There's being a troll and there's this level of trolling.
@cburg I can appreciate the Ubisoft comparison, but calling the combat in Ghost Of Tsushima “mediocre” is a hot take if I’ve ever heard one 😅
Obviously the closer to Shadows it releases the more competition it will have and the more it will be compared. You cannot avoid comparisons, but consumers will be less likely to make a binary choice the longer in between the titles are.
If they nail timing and marketing people that were into Ghost of Tsushima and Shadows might trippel dip.
I will wait and see which title is the strongest overall. Yasuke seems to me a more interesting character than the female protagonists (that oozes cool, no doubt, but I am a sucker punch for historical characters).
@IOI I've only played 2, 3, San Andreas and 5. First two had no story and the other were so full of "yo gangsta" stuff that I'm surprised that people over the age of 14 enjoyed it. I can understand liking the sandbox stuff, but still perplexed that the release of GTA VI is treated like a world shattering event.
