Fans of Falcom's long-running Trails series will probably end up remembering 2025 as one of the all-time greats.
Trails through Daybreak 2 already dropped back in February. Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter — a full-on, fantastic looking remake of the original game — is scheduled for the autumn / fall. And now, we've just had confirmation that Trails beyond the Horizon (known as Kai no Kiseki in Japan) is being localised later this year as well. That's a lot of Trails.
Trails beyond the Horizon is the sequel to Daybreak 2. It once again features Van Arkride as the central protagonist, but much like Trails into Reverie and the aforementioned Daybreak 2, the plot is split between multiple groups. And yes, Rean from the Cold Steel games is back (along with Kevin!).

It'll be very interesting to see how the release dates between Horizon and 1st Chapter line up now that they're both targeting a autumn / fall window. Let's hope that they don't overlap too badly!
Incredibly, we're now living in a time where the west will finally catch up with Japan with regards to the Trails franchise; Trails beyond the Horizon is the latest entry in the series, having released in Japan last year.

Move over GTA VI, The back end of the year is all about Trails for me! I have two weeks off at the beginning of November, so hopefully at least one of them will drop then.
They are going all out with the Trails games, thats three games for this year.
***** yeah, I did not expect it to be announced this soon but it'll be a day 1 regardless.
Words can not convey adequately on how excited I am that we're finally on the same release schedule with the Japanese as of Fall 2025. Two Trails games in a year and Sky remake global launch, we JRPG fans are eating good this year.
What a turnaround for a series that was so close to never see it released in the west before.
And of course I also can't convey adequately on how happy I am to see a grown-up Altina in the trailer, even knowing about it before. Kid grew up with me alongside the game just like Renee did.
This is my most wanted game of 2025.
Remember how we waited more than ten years for Sky 3 and Crossbell games?
Absolutely crazy that this and Sky remake look like they will be releasing next to each other. I only have so much time! But I'll manage somehow.😄
I never thought this day would come
I will never catch up
seriously, who can keep up with all these releases? i think falcom is doing a disservice to its own property by saturating the market with so many games all at once. one release per year would allow people time to catch up and would likely encourage higher sales for falcom so i question the strategy here.
Awesome new. More Trails Games!
Finished Daybreak II (including the final floor of Marchen Garten) yesterday, so this is perfect
Hopefully it’s better than the two Daybreaks.
I'm excited 😊 and sad 😔 at the same time we're getting towards the endgame
@Porco i totally agree with this. I ve only just finished trails through daybreak and I havnt had time to play 2 yet let alone another 2 games this year they need to space them out better 1 a year is plenty
Farewell, o real World xD
@Porco Falcom does mostly release just 1 game per year total, this year it's 2, the Trails Sky remake and an enhanced version of Ys X. NISA is the one releasing Trails games every 6 months and it's because while we tend to get Ys & Xanadu games fairly quickly (a year or 2 late), the West was far behind the Trails saga, skipping whole arcs and still only managing to do Cold Steal 2-3 years late.
too many are ignoring the real MVP that's going to destroy those 2 later in the year and that's the "Ys vs Trails in the Sky" fighting game. Weirdly enough all 3 games are being worked on by 3 different companies, so any crossover in release time wouldn't necessarily be Falcom's fault, but more GungHo, NISA and whoever's working on VS not communicating.
Hmm I just think all these different titles will not help the series in the long run. People are gonna get confused.
All these Falcom games, just look too similar.
Maybe it's time for them to try a different artstyle?
I've lost track a little. Is this the finale to the trails series, or is there still one more to go?
@8thDoctor Trails through Daybreak 2 already released this year and will be followed by Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter and Trails beyond the Horizon... that makes it 3 releases for the trails series alone in 2025 right?
@Carl6807 yea, it's a lot to take in. i haven't even started the trails series... i'm still catching up on ys haha.
I got burned out after finished Cold Steel 3. So i skip Cold Steel 4, Into Reverie, Zero, Azure, and Daybreak 1 & 2. That's 6 games and not counting spin off like Nayuta and Trails in the Sky 1 remake which i will skip it too.
And i feel glad that i don't play this series anymore. Less backlog, no more confusing story / world building / lore, no more asking "who's this character again?", and no more waiting between release.
But hey, i give salute to Trails fans who still loyal and closely follow the series 🫡. I hope Beyond the Horizon, which i read is the final chapter of Trails series, will satisfy you guys with a nice ultimate ending ...
@Porco Falcom released Trails Through Daybreak 2 in 2022 and Trails Beyond the Horizon in 2024 in Japan, then Trails in the Sky 1st will be released in 2025 worldwide (the script was already translated a decade ago). I don't think Falcom cares about the release cadence worldwide and NISA just wants to finally catch up.
After this messy year, each subsequent release should be 1 per year like with Japan.
@8thDoctor that's fair, although it makes sense to view this from the western perspective. in the west, we are getting 3 releases in the same year and it's simply too overwhelming for people, not just from a time commitment standpoint, but high cost as well. it is going to hurt their sales.
