A brand new physical retail edition of The Last of Us is on the way.
That's according to a new report from reliable gaming leaker billbil-kun, via Dealabs.
Apparently, a physical release of a "special edition of a game in The Last of Us franchise" is heading to stores in the future.
Unfortunately, billbil-kun has yet to determine exactly what this game is; while weighing up that it could be some new version of The Last of Us: Part I or Part II, the leaker suggests it could also be a double pack containing the two games together.
When you consider the price — $109.99 or €119.99, according to the report — that latter possibility makes a lot of sense to us, or maybe it's some sort of newfangled collector's edition.
The report concludes by saying official word on whatever this is will likely come soon, "within two months".
With HBO's The Last of Us season two very nearly here, it makes sense for Sony to push the games yet again, taking advantage of all the newly generated buzz from the TV show.
We'll update this article if more information surfaces. Are you interested in whatever this The Last of Us product is? Don't breathe in the toxic spores in the comments section below.

So basically TLoU is becoming the new Skyrim - insisting on porting to everything but the kitchen sink...though that's probably not too far away 🙄
Only Taylor Swift could re-release the same content more than this.
Yes! With every release, remaster, and remake, and every remaster of remake not to mention the remakes of remasters, I have the habit of buying the most expensive version just for the small chance of it having Faction I and II packaged in.
My guess is it’s both Part I and Part II Remastered bundled together in one retail package. Kinda makes sense, I guess.
Got both parts on PS4, and now that Part 2 releases on PC, I got both parts on Steam in order to get the achievements.
But that's as far as I go for those 2 games.
If this is just a physical edition collection, I don’t really see the big deal. It’s like WB doing the Arkham collection or AC games constantly coming out with new bundles.
Internet haters: stand down.
@IronCrow86 At least with Skyrim, it was being port to different platforms… We already have Last of us on PS5
Got to farm the fans.
This is not a good look for PlayStation when they’re supposed to at full stride in the generation, and soon to be competing against the Switch 2.
Yeah, we get games are hard and expensive to make, but the whole point of buying a games console is to give us new stuff to play, otherwise what was the point of moving on from the PS4?
If true, this another pathetic move by Sony. How about treating us to some new ****ing games???
I already got both the Firefly and WLF editions of both games, I don't think I can take another.
Last Of My Funds..😆
Makes sense to do a combo pack with both games in one but the asking price is a bit much since they're both a few years old already.
I am hoping and praying it's actually a version of their factions they are looking to release. As a more standalone multiplayer option, rather than a live service. But most realistically it will be a part 1&2 pack.
Have to release it again now the PS5 Pro is out and then release it again once the PS6 releases so you have a version specific to that hardware...
@JonnyAces I doubt you'll get Factions as that was cancelled years ago and no longer planned for release. It, along with a few other Live Service games were cancelled.
You still have Fairgame$ and Marathon to look forward to if Live Services are what you want to play...
Who in their right mind would buy this rerelease of a rerelease? And will this come to regular retailers?
The cows been so milked the udders must be falling off.
Guess they have to do something with only big AAA potentially from Sony studios this year like last year.
"... to Sell You".
Oh. Didn't realise they are forcing me to get it
A double pack with Factions and I'd buy...even at full msrp. It's a pipe dream but Factions is awesome.
This is frankly embarrassing, however with the way this gen went it's far from surprising.
For fs sake, Stop buying these cash grabs. They are just playing you because you will lap up whatever rotten milk they feed you.
With Sony appearing twice in last week's Direct (Patapon and Everybody's Golf), I could maybe see this being about Switch 2. Sony's trying to make TLoU be the next Skyrim and Skyrim played a very important role in the early Switch 1 era.
@IronCrow86 only because the sink can't run doom yet...
So much milk it's a cow.
Hey sony.about a resistance collection remastered.a sly Cooper collection remastered.a infamous remake.etc.🤔.Word up son
I would buy the last of us another time if it was the last of us VR.
Bundle it, give it a shiny ps pro patch, and sell for full retail. Seems on par for sony
How awesome would it be if Naughty Dog, Nixxes or some other team remastered Factions 1 multiplayer and it was included in this package? It'd be a great gift to fans after the debacle that was Factions 2, but I ain't holding my breath that Sony would put resources into a multiplayer project that isn't live service.
This gen basically has been rubbish remasters and some remasters that wasn't even wanted
They’ve remastered the remaster as it’s showing its age.
To be fair to Sony, if people were not buying these Remasters/Remakes and special editions thereof, Sony would not be making them.
When sales dry up, they will move onto something new.
Get out of here!
It will probably include TLoU Part 1 Remastered.
Naughty dog hasn’t released one new game this entire generation.
Sony can kiss my ass with TLoU.
@Frmknst bring back multiplayer period, I’ll buy
I have my copy of TLoU on PS3 and free from PS plus. I think it's enough for a game I've never played...
"I'm dog tired, boss".
@Nakatomi_Uk Objectively wrong. Sony's remasters have been great. There's a genuine generational leap between The Last of Us Remastered on PS5 and Part 1 on PS5. Ditto Demon's Souls Remake. Ditto Horizon Zero Dawn.
Stuff like TLoU Part 2, GoT, Death Stranding, etc. aren't quite as obvious with their jump in quality, but no one's opting for the PS4 versions when the PS5 versions exist.
And they clearly are wanted and sell - otherwise we wouldn't have so many.
This just makes it even more of a repulsive idea to try out the games despite not being a fan of their gameplay style. Naughty Dog has become a joke, and that’s a sad day. What happens to the folks who made Jak and Daxter?
@Rich33 if it’s a double pack they’re presumably expecting lower sales anyway given how many people already own both games in their remastered format. My dislike of Naughty Dog’s reanimated carcass doesn’t make me blind to obvious business choices. Easier to have a single SKU for both games than to have two separate SKUs to manufacture and move.
One price for 2 games yeah i be on board if i didn't already own them
@Runex2121 they have ps5 pro patches already , but im pretty sure the ps5 versions don't have physical copies till this comes out?
@MrGawain every switch(2) owner already has either a playstation or xbox.
@Coffeeglitch probably retired
No. It’s like Bethesda selling Skyrim again and again.
While this is ridiculous Nintendo aren't shy of the odd remaster/remake. In fact the Switch is littered with them and no doubt the switch 2 will have it's fair share of them. Luigi's Mansion 3 in 4k New but not New Super Mario Bros Wii Switch Edition etc 😂
I don’t really care one way or the other whether they release it a hundred times. Loved both games and will be there for number 3 if/when it happens, but I won’t be picking them up again personally. For anyone that hasn’t played them though, makes sense to have a latest or complete edition for them to pick up.
The Last Of Us: Last Edition(?)
Probably just a bundle of Part 1 remake + Part 2 remaster with a bunch of some bonus like steelcase and stuff.
But i'm not sure why the hate comments. Feels like some of you guys never like TloU and needs to move on from this franchise.
They can go...um do... something new after that hopefully.😆
@twitchtvpat Then maybe a special ps5pro physical edition with extra special reflections patch. Im sure theyll find something to make people pay.
A physical collection of both PS5 games would be nice, actually. But it’s likely that just buying each separately on sale would be cheaper. Sort of like the Dark Souls collection. I wanted to buy all 3 in that PS4 collection with DS1 Remastered, DS2 Scholar Edition, and DS3 Fire Fades Ed, all in that cool steelbook but it was way more expensive than just picking each of them up one by one.
Wow hate to say it but maybe when they admitted to being creatively bankrupt at the moment for new stories and games he wasn’t kidding. I mean Sony is as boring right now 1st party wise as ever before. All they know to make is a 3rd person action adventure game since PS3 with uncharted and PS4 was mostly that same game and PS5 is likely going to be a lot of the same since all the live service games were canned. This isn’t a good look, i thought the Day’s Gone remaster was stupid but this is really pushing it.
My opinion is that TLOU 2 for the ps4 has hurt the Playstation brand and it no longer cool anymore.
The last of remaster 😛
I bought the original remaster in like 2017 or so, and I've been good since then.
sony studios aren't producing enough games to keep the lights on and shareholders happy (big losses are going hit their financials this year due to the cancellation of numerous projects and lack of releases from its first party studios)... sony has to continue the needless re-releases for economic reasons, even it nobody is asking for them. at this point, only the most hardcore of collector's will bite though.
@Porco This re-release / reprint isn't new practice for Sony because it's been there since PS1 era with "Greatest Hits" or the PS4 rebrand "Playstation Hits" label.
They also did Greatest Hits special edition that includes CD soundtrack, some goodies, bug fixes etc. And actually enough people bought this re-release or the special edition which is the reason why Sony keeps doing it for decades.
Clearly this re-release isn't aim at people like you or the ones who already own the game and don't have any intention to double dip.
@Runex2121 i know you are just making jokes but like i said they already had patches for the pro , this is just for people holding out for physical editions for the ps5 versions of the games.
This has to be an April fool’s joke. Leaked early. No way this is real. Come on!
Hmm people comparing TLoU with Skyrim is weird because Skyrim is actually good and replayable
Skyrim deserved to be on every toaster and calculator in the world!
@Grumblevolcano if the Last of Us double pack is announced for Switch 2 along with the PS5 & PC editions. The meltdown will be to epic proportions. Some fanboys haven't yet recovered from Playstation being at the last Switch Direct.
I thought the the last time I bought the last of us was going to be last time bought last of us.
I’ve honestly lost count on how many times they’ve tried to sell us the same game, it’s pathetic at this point.
@BAMozzy read again mate. I was hoping they release it as a standalone multiplayer not a live service game. Akin to the original factions they attached with the original Last Of Us game.
I understand the live version game has been cancelled. I was not wishing for a live service game. Just an updated Factions game. And as my post also insinuated, it was me praying in hope rather than thinking it was a realistic chance. Anyways, good day and happy gaming
@JonnyAces Regardless of the terminology that differentiates between Online Multiplayer modes and 'Live Service', Factions was cancelled.
Multiplayer modes these days are more 'live service' than an 'add-on' to a Single Player game too extend its playability/life cycle. They all offer DLC or Seasonal content with countless 'cosmetic' bundles they want to 'sell'. The only difference is that 'live service' tends to add more content 'free' and sell Seasonal Passes/Cosmetic bundles where as traditional MP modes tended to sell DLC Map/Weapon packs and Cosmetics/loot boxes etc but the traditional method split the community between those who bought DLC and those who didn't own the Maps/Weapons.
Therefore I meant that Factions - whether as a Live Service MP or more traditional - has been cancelled. Multi-player games these days are more 'live' service than the traditional MP modes as the whole community don't miss out on new Maps, modes, events, weapons etc and sell Customisation bundles to fund the new content instead of selling the Content and splitting the Community. Therefore any 'Multi-player' only game is likely to be 'live service' so when I say 'live service', I mean a Multi-player only release which Factions was (until it was cancelled).
@PuppetMaster i wasn't aware that this release would be comparable to a "greatist hits" release considering its price point. $110US dollars is $160CA in my country and is the furthest thing from a "budget" release i have ever seen. "greatest hits" games were priced at $30 or less so i don't think that's the intent behind this triple dipping by sony.
@Porco I'm not talking about price but i'm talking about the function: a re-release for anyone who doesn't own the game or any fans who wants to double dipping because big chance this edition will have some exclusives goodies.
a double pack makes so much sense it's baffling it's taken this long to get it made
*God of war Greek trilogy and bloodborne anniversaries pass.
Sony: We here you and we've listened! Here is the tlouP1Re and P2Re REpackaged, just for you!!
Milk that cow!!!! I mean it’s udders have to be absolutely raw at this point….
I'd have assumed a definitive edition due to the roguelike mode/fixes to sell people but a 2 in 1 bundle I mean sure.
Sony isn't bored selling a game like it.
I will continue to ignore it like I did all prior versions. Got the PS3 version, didn't like the game, continued to ignore it since.
Let alone all Sony modern IPs that were 2017+ besides Gravity Rush 2, Knack 2 or Dreams I have been collecting everything else I care about on old Sony platforms or Nintendo/Xbox old platforms (besides of course Switch for modern platforms and odd PS4 games and even less Xbox One copies I found unless only version I see) and ignoring Sony's releases since.
It's been great watching Sony repackage 2 games multiple times from the side lines.
They sell so I mean it works. So why not. Doesn't bother me.
Honestly I would laugh my butt off if Sony decides to release TLOU on Switch 2. I swear, this franchise has become the Taylor Swift of gaming
