Split Fiction, the new co-op adventure from Josef Fares' Hazelight Studios, launches this week on PS5, and it can only be played in a two-person setup.
Fortunately, it comes with the Friends Pass feature, which means you only need to buy the game once and can then invite someone to play it with you online, regardless of platform. But what if you don't have any friends? That's where Split Fiction: Friend Edition comes in.
This special version of the game is the first ever to ship with a human being inside, who'll be more than happy to play through the game alongside you. Genius.
Obviously, this is just a daft marketing ploy, but it's a pretty amusing video all the same.
The actual message of the promo advertises the Hazelight Discord server, which is where the team encourages players to buddy up.
Do you have someone to play Split Fiction with when it launches, or would you be prepared to order Split Fiction's Friend Edition? Let us know in the comments section below.

Josef Fares is a treasure to the gaming industry.
Protect him at all costs!
They should make a SP mode
Itās hard making friends in your 30s, I think this is an untapped market!
Hazelight makes unique co-op games like no other studio, and their second game, a prison break narrative action-adventure called A Way Out, is on sale in the PlayStation store for only $4.49 U.S. I encourage anyone who enjoys co-op games to give it a try. That price is a bargain.
@Stevemalkpus completely agree , if you haven't played " a way out" it's brilliant
This is cheeky and fun, I like it.
I first heard of Fares at the Game Awards and thought he was pretty cocky even though the game looked amazing. This just made me crack up and I think he just became one of my favorite game directors. I broke my preorder rule for this one, can't wait to play it.
Havent had a chance to watch the vid yet, but do we have to feed him or does he come with snacks?
It's annoying because you can't preorder on ps5 and so I can't have it preloaded.
The older I get the less likely it is Iāll have the kind of friends that play video games. I know thatās normal given work, family and just life gets to be the center but itās still a bit saddening. Even so, this is hilarious.
@Hyena_socks couldnāt have said it better myself. Mid 30s here and good god, folks in their 30s have some issues. In my 20s I thought all the partying was bad, but at my age itās so much worse.
@Coffeeglitch haha Iāve actually been loving my (also mid) 30s tbh, get to be the geeky weirdo I always wanted to be with less worries. The therapy is affordable now too.
@Hyena_socks life is good when the focus stops being on others and on ourselves. Happy to know kindred spirits are about! And cheers to therapy. I canāt stress enough how much it helps!
@Athrum I miss the times when the gaming industry was mostly cheeky and fun done by nerds.
I know, old man screaming at clouds here.
As a 30-something myself I could use a service like thisā¦š
Funny little promo overall.
@Hyena_socks wait till you're in your 40s... as someone smart once said... "life is hell" š¤£
@Slideaway1983 is it Spike Milligan who said, similarly, āLifeās a bitch, then you dieā?
But I feel like if I made it through secondary school I can make it through anything. And we have plenty of great friends and games to help along the way!
@Hyena_socks it's was actually an abridged part of Thomas Ligotti... most definitely not in the realm of Spike's "I told you I was ill", as its more a Kafka-lite; so no Ā£50 or $ etc for that question!
That's a good mindset to have, so keep chugging away - games I've got plenty; friends, for one reason or another; I've not many, but I make do with what I have (very complex story). It's a good job I can live somewhat vicariously through others and think "at least they're having a good day!" š¤£
