Holy heck has HBO nailed this trailer for The Last of Us Season 2! Due out on HBO Max from 13th April, this epic two-minute taster is filled with familiar scenes from the game – and a couple of new ones, too.
Series creator Neil Druckmann and showrunner Craig Mazin have already confirmed this new series will dig into details that were glossed over in the game, so even if you’ve played the Naughty Dog sequel to death, expect some lore to be expanded on here.
It’ll be interesting to see how the mainstream audience reacts to “that” moment from the campaign; we’ve got a feeling the response will be less divisive than it was in 2020. Nevertheless, this looks absolutely fantastic.

If you’re planning to replay the game in anticipation of the show, then don’t forget our The Last of Us 2 guide can help you find all of the collectibles. And be sure to let us know if you’ll be tuning in to this new season from the start.

I'm not even sure "that" moment is going to be in this series or am I wrong? I could maybe see a potential timeline back and forth where this season ends with "that" happening but don't see how they could justify doing it in the first or second episode.
Based on what they shown they’re following the pacing structure of the game, telling Ellie’s pov in Season 2 until the theater scene (guaranteed season finale) with some flashbacks thrown in there and following Abby’s pov in Season 3, exactly like the game.
They’ve talked about season 4 but I’m not sure the 3-hour epilogue for Part 2 is enough for an entire season, it could be wrapped up in a couple episodes at most imo.
@HMazzy111 There’s scenes for the full 3 days of Ellie’s journey, we’re definitely getting -that- moment this season, I’d say in the first couple episodes and they’d justify it in the same way it happened in the game as for some story elements you already need to be hurt by -that- so scenes carry emotional baggage, like Ellie playing the guitar wouldn’t hit the same if you didn’t experience -that- earlier.
Looks great. Can't wait.
My only gripe with series 1 was I felt they rushed through the end after maybe adding stuff early on that didn't really add to the plot or the world. They seemed to pad it early on to the point they rushed the ending in my opinion

Still looks so effin cheap unfortunately. Oh well, season 1 was one of the most overrated things (gamers famously don't have too high quality demands - there are at least 10 series in a year way better) in media in a while so no expectations, which can only help.
Funnily enough, beside the low quality in craftmanship, story wise it was also very strange and Joel was almost not in the show, so looking forward how it should have any impact in part 2 as it did in the game.
@Frmknst For real. Standards have dropped massively over the past decade. How did we go from the Sopranos, GOT, Wire, Breaking Bad etc to calling shows like TLOU and Fallout great? Even the first 3 seasons of the Vampire Diaries are a million times better than what we get nowadays.
In what world does this look cheap?!
@HMazzy111 they might close the season on that and do some chronological juggling to get there. Trailer made me think they'll maybe even turn part 2 into three seasons.
This trailer is fantastic man but bella ramsey just pulls me out of it. Terrible casting.
@Cry_Zero This series is ten years too late unfortunately. We all know that Ellie was originally based on Ellen Page. A fact made even more clear if you hunt down the pre-release material for the first game.
@get2sammyb You know well TLOU draws out the worst from the cesspit of the Internet lol. These people will find anything to complain about!
I still can’t quite wrap my head around just how good the first series was, after 30 odd years of middling to bad to baaaaad game adaptations. Somehow this looks a step even above series1
Surely they’re not gonna get rid of the key talent ie pedro in this season?
@Icey664 Oh yeah, those pesky people from the cesspit of the internet. How dare they have different opinions from you?
@HMazzy111 looks like it's at the beginning of the trailer. Better as a game, as all games are.
Did someone really say this looks cheap 😂
Oh man, that shot of Tommy roasting a bloater 😂 …This is looking incredible.

Now the trailer for 28 years later. That is an all time great trailer.
Did someone say actually say this "looks cheap" Lock the comments and open the jails.
Anyway... looks fantastic, that one moment "you dont know what he did" chills!
That moment will be the end of season cliffhanger. No way it will happen halfway through.
@Frmknst I’m not disagreeing with you but you can’t say ‘at least 10 things better’ and not mention what you think they were!
@Spedfrom thinking that episode is boring doesn’t make someone neither a chud or a bigot. He said it felt like a filler episode. I agree. But that doesn’t automatically mean that I think the content of it is offensive or whatever. Relax.
Lol. I never watch PGA, not about to start now.
@Icey664 "Just consume product and wait for next product"
@Rhaoulos oh, you mean the episode that won all the awards and got all the attention? Yeah, sure hope they don’t do THAT again…
@get2sammyb In a world of different opinions. I think it looks frightfully generic and agree that there's a level of aesthetic that comes across as cheap.
This looks awesome and I can't wait for it...
BUT.....
I can't help but feel having been let down by the first season, by its structure. I was eager to share this powerful story with my wife, but the way they told the story, she never connected with the characters. We just don't spend enough time with Joel and Ellie in the first season. We barely know them by the end.
And when Joel did what he did, it really was not as powerful as in the game.
So, I don't know how people who did not play the game will react to this season 2. I don't know if it will be as impactful.
Also, I've got another problem : I'm trying hard to convince my brother to play the game BEFORE watching the season 2, but I've got a feeling that he won't. And I fear that "this moment" will just be spoiled for all of those "none-LOU2-players"...
@Brundleflies21 please do elaborate more,.I really want to understand your comment
Sorry if I'm rude but, if they kill off Pedro Pascal... I just can't see Bella Ramsey carrying this show on her own. She just isn't a very good actor and doesn't have the charisma of Ellie in the games.
@Uromastryx In what capacity? Do you refer to why one doesn't share the same enthusiasm as others?
@Brundleflies21 no no, enthusiasm or lack off i don't care we can't all like the same things. I mean what says it's cheap, bad actors...bad gfx...bad sets..etc. or do mean cheap in the way of a money grab
THAT moment... joel d.. well, i ask why? Why?? Why?? Why?????? His need to d.. again in the series. Was a mistake in the game. Will be a mistake on the series again. Whyyyyyy??? Buaaaaaaaaa
That I find the cinematography to.look bland much like the first series. I find the CGI is a way to mask being creative (many movies suffer from this). Also, I dislike that the sets are exactly the same as the game and even shot in the same camera position leading to the over reliance on things to remind the audience that this is from the game. The script in the first was pretty mid with an over reliance on the plot beats of the original game to keep your attention. The filler being far to weak to retain my interest. Acting was substandard but more to do with the script rather than the cast.
In regards to the cheapness it's more to do with how a movie is presented to you by all of it component pieces. My personal favourite movie of all time is Eraserhead. A movie made on a shoestring budget and yet at no point do I feel the artistic creation to be cheap, certainly in terms of visual flair and the uniqueness of the vision. The TLoU series does not give me the same feeling. It is unfairly held up as the gold standard in artistic achievement in video games for its story and whilst it's ok in video game narrative terms it's fails to match the standards when it comes to the medium it imitates. It's just another post apocalyptic cliche attached to a pretty decent third person shooter.
A game like Journey, Disco Elysium, Half Life or even Returnal are great examples of video game narratives for me personally speaking. The story is fully interactive and not just a flat movie cut scene which you watch. Journey for it's ability to invoke emotional and personal interpretations, plus it's ability to bond strangers via simple human companionship (all done with a basic premise), Disco Elysium for it's ability to allow you to chose paths and to give the player actual input into the story, Half Life because the plot progresses via uninterrupted exposition which doesnt impede the flow of the experience and Returnal because the cut scenes are based on player input and well, because the gameplay is just utterly bad ass. TLoU is lauded but to me it's a linear story told via the medium of film rather than the medium of games.
I hath drifted from the intial point. Basically when I look at gaming's obsession with imitating movies I find it juat ends up sorely misrepresenting gaming strengths and also pales in comparison with cinema's finest works.

@IOI Yup I reckon we will see it early, but I think we will get more flashbacks / they will split them up, to keep the emotion for him running high.
For S4 I wonder if it would be more a case of S3 with a mid season break for the final 6 episodes. I think if they expand the journey / escape timeskip then 6 episodes would be a good conclusion.

Season 1 was nominated for 24 Emmy Awards and won 8. In total it won 58 awards and 147 nominations across all the various awards.
We're all entitled to our opinions but suggesting it's overrated due to gamers low standards is utter nonsense. Were all the awards wrong?
You say it looks cheap, if that's the case why did the first season win dozens of awards for visual effects, locations, etc. There is absolutely nothing 'cheap' about this production. Should've gone to Specsavers!
@Frmknst Nothing looks cheap from this trailer. Your bad eyes seriously needs glasses and you also need to stop watching youtube with 360p resolution.
@Bobobiwan same thing happened at home.
First and only complain that I agree with.
Having played the games I really enjoyed the series, but if you didn't then I can see the lack of impact. The structure, specially around the last 2 chapters felt rushed for me.
It looks like they want to avoid this by breaking the second game in 2-3 seasons... but even this could turn for the worst. ~+80% of the second game happens during 3 days and even though the game was much longer than the first, storywise I am not sure how they will be able to extend it so much without overstaying its welcome.
3 seasons total would be just ok imo, with the 2nd one ending on the theater scene and change of POV. 4th is unnecessary.
Well with Druckman basically confirming they’ve killed off the franchise now, this is the only way to get your Last Of Us fix, think I’ll reply the original game at some point, but it’s a story that lends itself very very well to a TV adaption.
@themightyant You know the ONLY gamers who are obsessed with awards, as though it’s proof something is better then anything else no matter what someone’s opinion or tastes are, are PlayStation fans. I enjoyed the show but I wouldn’t give it any awards personally.
@Diowine Oh, personally I liked this first season : I'm too much of a fan of Pedro Pascal, and Bella Ramsay won me over in like two seconds. But that's the thing : I wanted more time with them.
As beautiful as it was as a side-story, the famous episode 3 (was it the 3 ? I'm not so sure, now) took too much time away from the main characters. I would not change it - it was a bold move which kept the show interesting for the fans who already knew by heart the story - but the season should have had maybe two more episodes in it's run. Just my two cents.
Anyway, excited to see those characters again !
