Remedy has announced FBC: Firebreak, its new multiplayer game set in the Control universe, will release for PS5 in the Summer months. When it launches, the online spin-off will be immediately part of PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium.

You can catch a new gameplay trailer above, and then community manager Julius Fondem has taken to the PlayStation Blog to share more details. He explains the Finnish developer has designed the experience to be as easy as possible to get into, and it will not demand you log in every day for currencies and bonuses, and there won't be any FOMO (fear of missing out) mechanics.

As Fondem puts it: "Just get together with your friends over the weekend for a good time."

FBC: Firebreak is designed for up to three players to co-operatively work together and take on "hordes of otherworldly monsters", while customising gear and levelling up. Each character, or Firebreaker as they're called, will come equipped with one of three different Crisis Kits, each offering a unique in-game tool and an Altered Augment.

The latter offers you special powers, with the three available at launch being:

Garden Gnome (AI9)
You can attach the Garden Gnome to the Electro-Kinetic Charge Impactor which allows you to fire it towards your enemies. Once it lands, it will summon a lightning storm around it, damaging and stunning all creatures in its area and draining all energy from surrounding batteries.
Piggy Bank (AI16)
Attaches to the end of the Wrench, and when you swing your Wrench around, it deals massive damage in a large arc in front of you and shatters, releasing a paranatural coin tornado that damages all creatures in it, but don’t worry, the Piggy Bank reassembles itself back together after the tornado makes its way back to you!
Teapot (AI44)
Attaches to the top of the Crank-Operated Fluidic Ejector (COFE) giving it the ability to shoot boiling water at enemies. When the Teapot is attached to the COFE, the tool deals the burning condition and cannot overheat.

FBC: Firebreak is being made by a team of 50 people within Remedy, and the developer also has Control 2 in the works alongside the Max Payne 1 + 2 Remake project in collaboration with Rockstar. Will you give FBC: Firebreak a go this summer? Let us know in the comments below.
