Capcom has announced immediate changes to how Monster Hunter Wilds' recently introduced Challenge Quests work.
Challenge Quests task players with slaying specific monsters with preset weaponry, putting their skills to the test across timed leaderboards. But when these quests were brought in as part of Title Update 1, it quickly became apparent that cheaters were ruining everyone's fun.
Unique cosmetic rewards are up for grabs, but the rarest accessory could only be acquired if you manage to place in the top 10,000 spots on the leaderboard. But again, cheaters were making this borderline impossible, with thousands posting times that couldn't be beaten.
Thankfully, that's no longer a problem with this new system. Now, beating a time of 5 minutes will net you the coveted Mark of Mastery pendant, while simply taking part in the current event will unlock both the Mark of Contest pendant and the Mark of Bravery pendant.
Granted, this is more of a workaround than a permanent fix, but at least Capcom's been listening to the community's complaints.
The developer says that it's also preparing to take action against the aforementioned cheaters.
Will you be trying for that Mark of Mastery now that the leaderboards don't matter so much? Make sure to attack those wounds in the comments section below.

Cheaters always gotta be ruining the fun for everyone else.
I much prefer this system anyway. Working towards a set goal for a reward will feel infinitely better than being rank 10,001st and missing out. I doubt I would have got anywhere near that ranking anyway.
Leaderboard rewards have no place in Monster Hunter in the first place. I hope they actually got the message this time and stop with the f***ing stupid faux-mmo nonsense.
@Dom_31 Agree, leaderboard rewards have no place anywere.
I have yet to try these leaderboard hunts due to crown hunting, but now that the cheater problem has a solution, I'll give it a try.
Imagine resorting to publicly evident cheating in pursuit of items whose arguable primary value lies in the public bragging rights. Forget shame, such folks don't even seem acquainted with the sense of irony.
@nhSnork aww, now I wanna see the world where Capcom doesn't do this and the charm marks people as losers in the game.
I don't understand the hate for the arena mode and it's rewards. The armors are all attainable just from participation and the cosmetics for this Doshaguma challenge are literally just that, cosmetic and barely visible on a hunter's weapon. I can't get an A rank but I actually find it pretty fun to challenge myself with new weapons and load outs that I might otherwise not have given a shot. It beats fighting monsters over and over with my strongest equipment and killing them almost effortlessly. Even Zoh Shia is hardly a problem for me now, so arena at least gives me something to do.
The game is too easy but I'm still playing it a ton. Can't quite roll a perfect Artian weapon or a Power Prolonger+Handicraft gem, and I haven't even touched crown hunting. I'm hopeful that AT Rey Dau will be hard
So, the cheaters are on a global leaderboard highlighting exactly who they are for Capcom to ban?
Sounds a bit dumb to me.
But then again, anyone who cheats on an online game is not someone to look up to.
